I think it's our turf. I notice way more slipping by both teams, regularly, when we play at home

I’ve been saying that for years.
Ralph is cheap!

I don't really pin this on the DTs. Dorian Williams is totally lost on this play. And having watched much of the defense back on all-22 he was lost for the entire game. So many big plays can be directly attributed to his errors. It's his 3rd year and the light hasn't come on, I think we can safely say he is never going to live up to his athletic upside.

Shaq Thompson has been working in on some 1st and 3rd downs but imo should be taking all of Williams' snaps, including when they run 4-3 sets after Milano's return.

Just watched the Saints opening drive and the amount of horrible tackling was on full display.

Cam Lewis missed an easy tackle on Rattler allowing a 1st down on 3rd and 8.

Solomon missed an easy tackle on Rattler allowing him to scramble for a big gain.

On the Saints TD run both Taron Johnson and Rapp missed basic tackles allowing a 18 yard TD run.

Looked bad in person and even worse watching it now on replay!

Woof!

Couldn't agree more. Against the Saints Williams got 84% of snaps and Thompson got 16%... That needs to be flipped. I thought I saw Thompson getting more run later in the game though so hopefully that means the coaching staff is going to make the switch permanently.

If they're slow-rolling the switch to keep Thompson fresh and healthy for the stretch run, I guess I probably wouldn't complain about that strategy.

Well, I would but probably shouldn't.

That’s totally fair. I’m disappointed he hasn’t developed more.

I still just hate watching Phillips get totally washed out like that

“Our defense continues to get gouged, guys are out of position on many plays, and the pass rush is nonexistent. We can't continue to survive like this. In the end, a win is a win. Still, it was most unimpressive and we easily could have taken the L. “

THIS…^^^^^

After another non stand by the D against Spencer ***** Rattler 🙄, I was in the Concourse. I mentioned to a number of Bills fans:

” This is a Championship calibre team with a High School level Defense.” they all agreed.

Players look out of position or inept at their jobs! Again, I am cautioned by the current injuries to key personnel and the absence of quality PED idiots. Let’s keep rolling up the next two Ws by any #17 means possible and get replenished.

You'd risk Thompson with a bigger role now, or wait for playoffs? It's possible this was just a really bad week for Dorian and he bounces back.

I don't think so; it's been an issue (or issues) with him for two years and hasn't gotten any better to my eyes.

The point about not pushing Thompson this early in the season is a good one.

The limited work he's getting on some first and third downs right now might be the staff's effort to work him in slowly to make sure he's both ready and healthy for Dec/Jan.

Yeah I think the idea of an extension or L/t future here has sailed, but he's a live body and STer. i like the idea that he remains bought in while we keep Thompson fresh. Wish we had the luxury of doing that with Bosa too.

I think we will in two weeks when Hoecht comes back

My main thoughts are that we don’t have any game breaking WR beyond Shakir.  Was hoping Palmer and Keon would step up but being at the game they were quite blanketed. The best receivers are tight ends and Cook.

Also, Ray Davis is not special in any way and Ty has regressed. Need to see much more from them.

Can't come soon enough. Soloman is another player who isn't long for this team.

Coleman was good in this game to my eyes. Showed solid separation and strong hands. In fact he got his matchup CB Isaac Yiadom benched after beating him on a handful of plays in the 1st half. Coleman has become the primary WR in this offense and the snap counts prove it - he got 73% of snaps against the Saints, the next closest was Shakir at 53%. It's tough to tell how well he's performing at times because the Bills offense has to be dragged kicking and screaming into throwing the ball downfield outside the numbers. It's just not our identity right now.

Palmer is a legit disappointment so far. Shockingly, Samuel and Moore each had a higher snap percentage than Palmer. He played effectively the same number of snaps as Shavers. Maybe it was game plan related but we signed him to be one of our 2 primary outside WRs and instead his role has been declining week over week.

We didn't bring him here to play contain, we brought him here to rush the passer which he's done. Babich needs to be aware of his skill set and stop leaving him on an island. It was shocking the number of outside runs where Bosa was the only player in the way of Kamara picking up chunk yardage. That is just not putting him in any kind of position to succeed.

I'm not the defensive scheme guru that others here are, but how can you not, at least to some extent, leave the DE on an "island" as an initial run defender, in McDermott's scheme?  (at least, not without leaving a giant hole somewhere else)?

Of course, in McDermott's scheme, the LB and the safety should be reading and reacting correctly so the DE isn't the ONLY player in the way.

But the DE has to be able to set the edge against the run.

I thought Williams played better last year when he was filling in for Milano.
Not that he wasn't still in the wrong place sometimes, just less of the time

Perhaps we were hiding him better last year, between the DL rotation and Rapp/Hamlin instead of Rapp/Bishop?

9 - Josh 2nd quarter - Am I crazy or did Josh not complete a pass in the 2nd quarter?   I remember looking at the scoreboard and seeing that he threw for either 113 or 115 in the first quarter, and ended the half with 115. Regardless, 2 yards in the 2nd quarter...how is that even possible?  This offense either makes a 80 yard drive seem like a walk in the park, or they forget what a football looks like.  It's head scratching sometimes.  Even more so, that we still are averging more than 30 points a game.

Crazy 2nd quarter.

All our drives were short.  3 and out, 6 and out, 3 and out, 3 and out.

Josh in fact completed 2 passes for 4 and 8 yards, but he was sacked twice for -7 and -9 yds, bookending a false start by Dion

Part of it seems to be an attempt to open up a deeper passing game, resulting in a pick and an incompletion.

The Bills won and it really wasn't as close as the score.

On Offense my only complaint was for the last 7-8 minutes of the first half Brady seemed to forget #4 was still on the roster. That also was when Josh seemed to be getting harassed the most... Shakir's TD was a thing of beauty, ditto Kincaid's.

For awhile there our Defense was making Spencer Rattler look like Drew Brees... Awesome INT from Bishop.

Kudos to our Punter for coming back in with that big brace on his knee to hold for the final FG. Just to get down onto a knee had to hurt like hell.
