chris heff Posted Monday at 09:29 PM Posted Monday at 09:29 PM I can’t believe the moderators haven’t intervened. No one has mentioned that Hawes went to Yale or that Karl Malone is his illegitimate father. I very much disappointed. 8 Quote
Augie Posted Monday at 09:32 PM Posted Monday at 09:32 PM Hawes is not too bad for a guy picked at the end of the 5th round. Like Knox, you can get guys like that a bit later than you might think who don’t have big college numbers, but they have what it takes. I think Hawes is looking very good so far on what I’ve watched closely. 5 1 Quote

Especially blocking on the perimeter on WR screens, end around, etc. He used to whiff on those but seems to be much better at engaging, staying in contact, blocking through the whistle, etc. 1 Quote
Logic Posted Monday at 09:43 PM Posted Monday at 09:43 PM (edited) Where Hawes transforms the Bills offense is this: They can use him as the "6th O-lineman" in jumbo sets, but he's an actual threat to catch the ball, unlike Alec Anderson. I could be mistaken, but I don't believe I've seen the Bills roll out a 6OL package yet this season. I HAVE seen (especially against the Jets) a good amount of 12 and 13 personnel. Hawes is Lee Smith Jr. For the Bills to say he was the best blocking tight end they've EVER evaluated, and for him to already be getting this much time on the field...you know he's special as a blocker at that position. Dawson Knox is set to make $17million next year. Given the realistic constraints of the salary cap, people aren't wrong to say that long term, Hawes' presence could spell the end of Knox's Bills tenure. Going forward, a Hawes-Kincaid duo at TE could indeed be the thing. And if Hawes is able to develop the receiving part of his game? Look out, man. Edited Monday at 09:43 PM by Logic 8 Quote

When Fitz was Bills QB, announcers couldn’t get out a paragraph without mentioning he went to Harvard. There was an also a Bills player whose name I can’t recall, who was Malone’s son. Announcers would always point it out. 1 Quote

The guy LOVES contact. I genuinely think he craves it. He engages the block, drives his defender backward and does not stop until after the whistle. I can’t remember the last time i’ve seen a Bills TE who can block this well. Maybe ever? He may make Knox disposable. Especially with his constant propensity to drop balls. having a young guy like that on the team and watching her develop his complete game is going to be great fun to watch. I predict he becomes a fan favorite He reminds me of a throwback type player. Old School Tough. Tough Minded. I like that a lot Quote
Victory Formation Posted Monday at 10:08 PM Posted Monday at 10:08 PM I’m disappointed in Knox. It would be great if Hawes could develop into TE#2. Hopefully he can develop into more of a pass catcher. Quote

Another fun fact, Hawes was actually an accomplished lacrosse player at Yale and wears wedding rings on both hands when he plays despite being an eligible bachelor. I think he makes Gilliam disposable. He has no need to be on this team with Hawes. Hawes can line up at TE and FB and get him more snaps on the field. Someone like him should be on the field a good amount of time in 22 or 12 personnel 38 minutes ago, Logic said: Where Hawes transforms the Bills offense is this: They can use him as the "6th O-lineman" in jumbo sets, but he's an actual threat to catch the ball, unlike Alec Anderson. khlax3 Posted Monday at 10:26 PM Posted Monday at 10:26 PM Jawed is great and Kincaid seems to improved this year. I think the bills and Allen love Knox. His wife and her family are from Buffalo. I expect Knox will be around a while at a reduced contract. I think next year he saves 9 million against the cap with an 8 million cap hit. I would expect he takes a cut and we save like 7 million against the cap. 2 1 Quote

gonzo1105 Posted Monday at 10:32 PM Posted Monday at 10:32 PM Knox has a huge cap hit next year. Hawes, who I was high on pre draft, forces Knox to take a pay cut to keep the room intact next year, or allows the Bills the leverage to release him if necessary 1 Quote
Neo Posted Monday at 10:34 PM Posted Monday at 10:34 PM If the Bills drafted backwards, taking their last pick first, their second last second, and so on …. Beane would be considered draft day wizard. 1 1 Quote
