She doesn’t win majors because she doesn’t have the top gear the others do….consistent to be a top 10…her path to a major involves some choking on the other side of the net…which is always possible in women’s tennis. Taliking about a curse is just self pity. I get she's not quite as good as Swiatek and Sabalenka. But those two have lost to lesser tennis players than Jess. And lesser players than Jess have won majors. JPEG just needs them to have a slightly off day while she's playing her best. The talk about a curse is lighthearted banter. Trust me, there's no ruminating self-pity on my part. Edited September 5 by hondo in seattle 3 Quote

The Sabres made it to the Stanley Cup Finals twice. Came up short both times. The Braves had the league’s top scorer for three seasons - Bob McAdoo - and still never reached the Finals before the team was stolen from us. The Bills? Sure, they won titles in the inferior AFL. But never in the NFL. The current edition of the Bills has earned the highest point differential in the NFL since 2020 - by a mile. Second-most wins. Zero trophies. And Jess? She’s ranked #4 in the world, has been in the Top 10 for five straight years, and yet… no Grand Slam titles. She’s the only Top 10 player without one. A living, breathing metaphor for the current edition of the Bills: dominant, consistent, and heartbreakingly ringless. The Sports Gods let us win. Just never the Big One. The Curse is real. Ive watched maybe 6 matches my entire life she wasn't involved in, watched her a few other times, but saw this entire tourney of hers. DAMN THAT WAS A FUN RIDE! It certainly seemed like if she got over that hump yesterday, she would've had an easier match in finals... that feels familiar as a Bills fan. Anyways she played her a** off yesterday and absolutely had her best showing. That chick was a beasttttt. 116mph serves? Good Lord, and the spin on em? Reminded me of a nasty breaking ball pitcher if they had double the length to home plate, for the break to continue breaking! Wish they'd use that ground level camera more. I only saw it once yesterday and thought to myself I might have a better chance fouling off Paul Skenes, than I would getting a touching the racket on any one of those serves. Lastly... respectfully.... WOULD. Shes an absolute doll, but her sporty with a tinge of 'drink a beer with the guys' attitude is just mmmmmmmm. Hope to see her win one!! 2 Quote

I think I've watched one woman's tennis match before Pegs: Chris Everett versus someone or another. Jessica is a great story. Not as athletic or powerful as some other women's tennis players, and plagued by injuries, she didn't accomplish much in her early career. Considered quitting the sport. Didn't crack the top 100 until 2019 she was 26 years old. Younger players like Naomi Osaka (age 22) were already winning majors in 2019 while an older Jess struggled in smaller events. But Jess kept grinding and eventually cracked the Top 5 through resilience, intelligence, and consistency. Like you, I hope she wins a major before retiring. Trust me, there's no ruminating self-pity on my part. Before last night the head to head for Sabalenka/Pegula was 7-2. It’s not like she is not capable of beating her, because she’s done it before. It’s also helped that Sabalenka had a walk over in the prior match, much to her televised surprise (which I found interesting). But that’s not an excuse, that’s just the kind of thing that needs to work for Jess, not against her. If she never gets a major, she’s still had an amazing career. I really admire people like Jess and Emma Navarro. Forget the silly people who said she’s a rich girl with a hobby. This is world class stuff, and I admire anyone who is willing to work that hard to get there. The conditioning alone is grueling beyond what most people realize. Oh, then there is the tennis, and you have to climb to the pinnacle. Nothing is given to you, everything is earned. If your family is worth billions, a lot of people will wilt before they commit that hard. 1 Quote

Yeah, I didn't say it as thoroughly as I should have. I think what I meant was that if the Dolphins/Steelers weren't as good back in the 70s, the Raiders may have been the dynasty team, similar to how the Colts may have been or the Steelers, if not for the Patriots. Similar to now, I think if KC was not as good as they have been, both Baltimore and Buffalo would have won a SB during the last 5 years (I know Baltimore has won 2, but speaking specifically about the Lamar era).
