Not really surprising mind you as he had a rough pre season Hawes made him pretty expendable IMO. One can block & catch, the other def cant block and was brutal at catching the ball. Really freaking stoked to have LeeSmith2.0 (now includes hands & route running!!!) 4 1 Quote
BigAl2526 Posted Wednesday at 07:23 PM Posted Wednesday at 07:23 PM The only player I don't know at all is Sam Franklin. Anybody know anything about him? He has good size average speed as per NFLDraft Scout. https://draftscout.com/dsprofile.php?PlayerId=1028304&DraftYear=2020 I did see he spent 5 seasons in Carolina and a season in Denver, so he's got some experience. What does he look like on the field? Quote

Desert Bills Fan Posted Wednesday at 07:28 PM Posted Wednesday at 07:28 PM (edited) I like the looks of this practice squad, except I think they could do better at CB than Hardy…maybe still a chance with the last spot Edited Wednesday at 07:29 PM by Desert Bills Fan 1 Quote

Everyone else lines up well enough. Latu over Davidson is a little surprising I guess, but Davidson looked rough in the passing game. No KJ Hamler, feel for the guy. I wonder if he'll end up somewhere else. I remember Hardy getting injured in the first game, he may have not been 100% the rest of the time. He showed a bit last year that people were happy he made that practice squad. I think Davidson and Hamler got passed over for other vets like Phillips, the Guards, Dane, Franklin and Po since you can only have 6 on a PS I believe 1 Quote

I mean they practice and travel with the team, do film work, etc. Some players on practice squad can be very important for simulating opposing players aka a scout team. Most importantly they are there to push the starters. On that note, I am excited to see what Shavers can do this year. I’m not sure if they get rings, but they should. 2 Quote
JustHewIt Posted Wednesday at 07:39 PM Posted Wednesday at 07:39 PM Has aging vets signing to practice squads always been a thing? I don't remember this growing up, or maybe we were just never an attractive location for that sort of thing. But it's kind of cool to see Phillips and Poyer choose to take roles on the PS, make some cash and try to help influence the next generation, while serving as our emergency depth. Do other teams have similar players filling those roles? Quote

Do other teams have similar players filling those roles? They changed the rules a couple years ago (during COVID?) to expand the PS to 16 and also allow more vets on it. I think the limit is 6 now? Something like that. And yeah, as far as I know every team uses those spots for vet depth. In some cases, the vet on the PS might play over the young guy on the active roster if an injury happens. But since the vet is declining and the young guy is (hopefully) ascending, teams won't expose the young guy to waivers, even if he's not good enough to play yet. 1 1 Quote

From google AI: "Yes, NFL practice squad players who are on a winning team's roster at the time of the Super Bowl victory do receive a Super Bowl ring, though the team has the discretion to provide them with a ring of lesser value compared to the active roster players. These players are integral to the team's success during the season, and their contributions are recognized with a ring, symbolizing their participation in the championship win. " 5 2 Quote

I had to look it up: https://www.patspulpit.com/2024/8/28/24230532/patriots-2024-nfl-practice-squad-explainer# [apologies for the source] "With that as the basis, the current practice squad rules can be broken down as follows: Players with unlimited number of accrued seasons: max. 6* Players with two or fewer accrued seasons: max. 10* Players with no accrued seasons/Players who were active less than 9 games in their only accrued season: max. 16 *the combination of those two categories may not exceed 10 players" Edited Wednesday at 08:08 PM by chongli 1 2 Quote

Latu is a rookie who seems to have more upside than Davidson. So 3 UDFA rookies, Latu plus Gosnell & Jenkins, made the practice squad in addition to almost all the drafted rookies making the 53. 2 Quote
