Have you ever caught an accurate out route with your hips completely turned and your back on the opposite side of where you're running? An accurate pass puts his hips pointing where he is running, his back behind him. He's not contorting to adjust to the ball which is why he dropped it.

Our secondary is a hot mess right now!  All four starters have durability concerns and Bass still limited doesn’t create a sense of confidence going into the season. 
 

Offense is gonna need to be firing on all cylinders!

Essentially starting 3rd stringers at corner on an opening game is nothing Ive ever seen before. If that is the case..yes..the offense better play pretty mistake free football and light up the scoreboard.

False - Bateman has two options on that route, carry it upfield if the Safety isn't supporting, or cut to the corner early to undercut the safety coverage up top.  Bateman ran the correct route actually, he cut to the sideline to create corner separation and allow for a potential throw under the safety.  That takes the Safety out of the play and leaves Lamar to throw the boundary sideline throw that either Bateman catches or falls incomplete.

 

Lamar didn't detect the safety help over the top, and floated a ball as if Bateman was running a heads down heater downfield.  He completely misread the route.  This wasn't 3rd and long too, he simply made the wrong read, sailed a throw he shouldn't have made, and Rapp has the easy INT.

 

Bateman did what he was supposed to, Lamar didn't.

 

EDIT:  Watch the play from the Safety view too - Lamar drops back, clean pocket, and STARES down Bateman the entire way.  He doesn't try at all to nudge the safety off the route.  He plants, and floats a ball that should've been to the sideline and leaves it 7 yards inside, against single high safety play covering that side of the field.  Rapp starts the play on the near hashmarks...  It's a bad bad play by Lamar

Yes, this is not news. He has been injured for most of preseason. Some said on WGR week ago that he won't play the first game and maybe first 2 weeks.

Look for Moore in the slot with Coleman and Palmer outside. Big game from Kincaid too.

But if our CB's are Strong and who knows, then we have a problem. They will eat us alive. ONLY hope is our D line has the game of the century. Go Bosa and Groot! LB's have to be stout.

Even if Bateman ran the correct route, it would’ve been a 50/50 ball at best, but the likely outcome would’ve been Bateman being decapitated by Rapp.  That’s what Rapp does- even to his teammates.

It was a bad snap and Lamar compounded that error with a much worse error.  There are instances in which Lamar has to choose the right decision.   It’s not a matter of “try and make a play every time the play breaks down” or “never try and make a play when it break down”.  Pick and choose your battles and those choices. 
 

we’ve been hearing the same thing about Josh for his entire career.  This past season, he was still out there making ridiculous off script plays.  He just made better decisions and was more accurate on those plays than he had been in the past.  
 

QBs will be judged on turnovers and those turnovers will be magnified when they lead to a loss.  Magnified x100 when it’s in the playoffs. Thats the nfl.  

Again….Lamar is special and will contribute to be just that.  Enjoy it.  Who cares if people disagree with how you feel about past outcomes?  You do.  You can say you don’t care all you want….the fact that you’re spending hours on a bills message board arguing with bills fans says differently.  We don’t see this the same and you won’t be changing anyone’s minds.  You’re just wasting your time.  Just like I’ve been with this 🗑️ 

 

good luck on Sunday and this season.  Hopefully we both stay healthy and can meet in the afccg.

I personally thought the timing was just off since Lamar briefly double-clutched before throwing it. By that time Andrews was too close to the sideline and trying to contort to make sure he got the pylon, and forgot to catch it. That's the sort of throw you know your technically proficient QB's like a Brady or Burrow will make 10/10, but an Allen or Jackson maybe 9/10.

Watch the play…..he threw the ball right to Rapp…..what does that have to do with Batemans route?  Regardless of if Bateman ran the wrong route….it was a terrible decision to throw it and an even worse pass.  It was an int or a dead WR.  Neither are acceptable

he said clearly he didn’t hold the safety and then threw a bad ball for the INT.

Ive seen the play.  He didnt throw it right to Rapp, Rapp came from across the field to to kntercept the pass.  Had Bateman ran the correct route he woukd have been there with Rapp and not have v Rapp there by himself.
