If the Bills start slow this year, there will be at least 50 threads on here about a lack of preseason snaps for the starters.

They started slow last year against the Cardinals and the first string players got plenty of preseason reps.

Preseason is meaningless.

If Hairston was healthy, he would be the only starter I would let get a series or two of reps. Other than that every starter and prominent backup like Johnson and Knox should not even dress. If Hamlin is going to be on the 53 as safety number 3( which I hope he is not) theb hexshouldbr dress either. Should be Davis and Gore getting all the RB reps. Shavers Shenault and the gang of PS WRs get the WR reps.

Will be interesting to see if Andresen sucks again. Carter too. Those two are playing themselves off the roster.

There will be but a lot of us don't care.  Playing important starters in preseason games against dudes trying to make teams is a bad idea.

If you have very young starters and guys trying to get established like Cam Ward or Caleb Williams, then yes they should get out there and play a bit.

The NFL is in a weird spot. They just don't really practice anymore.

I get it, these guys are bigger, faster, stronger. They're getting hit by a mid sized sedan like 8 times per week for 17 weeks (if they're lucky)

Unsure if I am getting older or if this is a new phenomenon, but the less there is team practice the more there seems to be more soft tissue injuries. And on top of that, with nobody practicing, and nobody playing preseason, it seems common place to just sort of accept that a bunch of teams are clunky for 2-4 weeks to start the year.

If I am the NFL I would put almost any bargaining chip on the table to get these guys back in the facilities full time starting in May. No pads until August,  all film, weights, drills, routes vs air, sleds, etc.

Honestly, drop TNF, add a bye, increase the NFLPA revenue share, but get these guys back in house 30 hours per week (or whatever) earlier so they're working at NFL speeds against a host of NFL players more often.

Interest (ie, ratings) and profits have never been higher…I’m pretty sure the NFL does not consider this a problem…if anything, the league will move in the other direction (even less padded practice, more non-Sunday games, etc).

Davis needs the reps BAD. 7 carries for 12 yards is his rushing line through the first two preseason games. Frankly, he's another guy that may be playing himself off the roster.

Gore on the other hand has way out performed Davis. Both in rushing and out of the backfield as a receiver. Has looked way sharper albeit against 3rd and 4th stringers.

Watching Gore Jr I can't help but see his father.

His father wasn't "great" at anything, yet he had a long and successful career and is one of the all time rushing leaders.

Sometimes you may not be the fastest, strongest or biggest but have "it".

Sooner rather than later, I think he will be contributing here or somewhere

My buddy down in Tampa said the storms this morning were nuts. Reverse pattern so the bad storms are early and hopefully over by later afternoon.  it’s not a field you want your starters on today.

Between the fumble last week and the brutal attempt at reaching the goal line in the first preseason game, I think the opposite of Gore.

He is not clutch nor even average against 3rd and 4th stringers and will be lucky to be on the practice squad.

Hamlin is making the team and likely going to start my guy.

I think so too. Thats an indictment on the backups not a testament to Hamlin's ability.

But given how frail Rapp and Bishop are I wouldn't play Hamlin either today.

I'm so done with this team.

Why don’t YOU try to play QB with a torn UCL, pal!?

How about a little empathy?

I have to think at some point that your core demographic consistently and across the board raising concerns about the deteriorating quality of your product would raise concerns.

while of course that could be a case of grumpy old men being a naturally complaint filled group….

it reminds me of espn thinking they had the magic ratings team and paying everyone only to later realize everyone was watching for Tebow news, not their newscasters and ratings plummeted when Timmy flopped.

Could we be in a weird bubble where people are falling out of love with nfl football despite being highly engaged socially at the moment through things like fantasy football?

The ratings aren’t getting worse though. They are improving across the board.

Is it possible to increase the ratings but in reality slowly march to a tipping point where it all reverses and goes to hell and people turn it off? I suppose.

But what do you even do about that? You don’t even know what the reason could be. It’s like planning for a doomsday scenario without knowing what will do it. May as well print money as well as the printing is good. Especially for these 80 year old owners, they don’t care about 20 years from now.
