Because The Bills didn't want to pay what he went out and secured which was a pretty big $$$ contract. If we can get Gabe Davis back, healthy - it's a big fat win for us. Shakir and Coleman can open routes for Davis. It takes pressure off of Shavers if he is to make the squad. It's a win all around IMO. Being the 4th/5th WR is perfect for Gabe and he can prove to us that he is #3... again, a win if it comes to fruition. Quote

SydneyBillsFan Posted August 19 Posted August 19 (edited) It doesn't hurt to take a look at him. The only proper X receiver we have is Palmer, who is not a proven commodity in our offense. Gabe, for all his faults, has been productive in Buffalo and is very good in pass pro. Edited August 19 by SydneyBillsFan 1 Quote

BuffaloMatt Posted August 19 Posted August 19 (edited) I think he would do anything to get back on this team. Just like Jordan Phillips, when you leave is when you realize why playing in Buffalo is tops! Edited August 19 by BuffaloMatt 1 Quote

hondo in seattle Posted August 19 Posted August 19 (edited) Maybe he'd be a good #4. He certainly had some big catches and games for us. But far more often, he was invisible, unable to gain separation. And sometimes he was worse than invisible: not on the same page with Allen or dropping balls. How many of Josh's picks happened when Gabe zigged when Josh expected him to zag? I'd prefer not to see that again. And then there's this from Jalen Ramsey: “Gabe Davis only runs like three routes.” Edited August 19 by hondo in seattle Quote

Gabe, for all his faults, has been productive in Buffalo and is very good in pass pro. Can't hurt to try. It does hurt. Gabe zigs when he should zag. He doesn't fight for contested passes. If it doesn't hit him in the hands he puts no effort into making a catch. You don't see any of this in a work out. Only in games where he will displaces someone else. Of course it hurts. Beane called half the fanbase stupid for wanting them to draft a WR instead of all defense. Then he does this, just like last year when they passed on taking anyone beyond Coleman in a "generational" WR draft. They picked Cooper out of the trash bin. Will do anything but give Josh a proper weapon. Edited August 19 by blitzboy54 Quote
Logic Posted August 19 Posted August 19 18 minutes ago, Mat68 said: His failed attempt at wr 2 would have been wr 2 last season by a wide margin and would have led the team in TDs. I dont understand what some want. For peanuts he has a larger history of production than every single player on the roster. And the production came with Allen. If the Bills signed Davis Gabriel who played for a different team this would be the move of the offseason if they pulled it off. Agreed. Curtis Samuel has done nothing for the Bills but keep the blue medical tent busy. Elijah Moore has been a nothing burger. So after Coleman/Palmer/Shakir, what do people think the Bills have, exactly? I like Tyrell Shavers' potential and I'm fine with him snagging a roster spot. At the same time, he's never put up 200 yards and 4 TDs in a playoff game. Given Samuel and Moore's failures thus far to make any impact on the WR corps, it's hard to see how adding Gabe Davis wouldn't improve that room substantially. 1 Quote
Royale with Cheese Posted August 19 Posted August 19 28 minutes ago, Mat68 said: He has exactly 1 catch. I like Shavers 2 but Gabe is a safer bet. He has proof of production. Shavers has no history of production in pro or college. Gabe Davis is an indictment on Moore and maybe even Palmer. Davis is more productive than all of them when healthy. I think Davis is proof of under production. He was our #2, signed a decent sized deal to be cut later by the Jags after one season. I don't think you see much of a difference between Davis and Shavers....Shavers will be much cheaper. 1 Quote

Doc Brown Posted August 19 Posted August 19 50 minutes ago, Logic said: Anyone who objects to a potential Gabe Davis signing likely remembers the failed attempts to have him become the Bills' WR2. But when he was the Bills' WR4? It was awesome. Dude averaged about 700 yards and 7 TDs a season here right up through 2023. Was good at making plays out of structure when things broke down. Personally, I'd be all for adding him as a WR4/5. He's not a WR2/3, but the Bills wouldn't be depending on him for that. Locker room wise, chemistry-with-Allen wise, run blocking, etc....he'd be a good addition. Problem is he'd pry immediately get moved up to WR2 if there's an injury to Palmer or Coleman. In that case with Allen it would be like locking a recovering alcoholic in a brewery. 1 Quote

A familiar one, yes...but still unsigned for a reason. That they're hosting him for a visit tells the story that not all is well at WR. Dont let Beane hear you say that, He gets all pissy about not properly addressing WR Quote
somnus00 Posted August 19 Posted August 19 I heard he dropped the plane tickets. I kid. Great locker room guy. But on the field, I'd rather see Shavers elevated. Quote
