Heard that as well, but he didn’t look good against the Giants and sounds like he struggled today against the Bears. Hopefully it’s just due to the fact that the Bills are playing it vanilla this time of year and aren’t showing much of their plays.

I just don't think we'll know about Tre until the season starts.  On one of the comeback routes by a Giants receiver, it looked to me like he was powering down...taking smaller and smaller steps before coming back in stead of planting his foot and making an abrupt stop.  That's a good way to avoid a non-contact injury.  Now, is it the case that Tre can't make those abrupt stops anymore (either he physically can't or mentally doesn't trust his body to hold up), or isit that he is being careful....which would be smart?  I think either is a possibility and we can't know until real football.

If it was cover zero it's one on one across the board and there's nobody else to make a tackle if Tre doesn't

This is the time to try coverages and see how they work they're probably trying out more aggressive coverages to see how they handle them

Instead of sitting in our zones

yea it wasn't cover zero or anything complex or risky from what I have heard/read.  Apparently white was just beat badly and then Taylor Rapp took a bad angle and let him by him and he was gone.

no big deal its just a practice.  If they hit it again in the game sunday that will stink though.

Rapp might be the slowest starting safety in the league but generally takes good angles. It’s good for these things to happen in practice, would be less beneficial for the defense if the Bears offense didn’t make any plays.

Didn’t the Bears dominate the Dolphins in their joint practice? Good to see the Bills were the better team today with all things considered.

Yeah, but the Dolphins wished it was colder, so there’s that.

We found out Tre can't get in someone's face and cover.

I dont trust Tre has his "pre injury" quicks. let alone several years older.

Big reason we took Max was to improve team speed in the secondary, and ability to play some more aggressive coverage underneath.

I think its a significant difference in defensive philosophy with Tre vs Max.  Tre's instincts have always been elite, im hoping what we saw in Preseason game 1 was a player "consciously" trying to be smart and not risk injury... color me slightly concerned atm

I was hoping we were getting a much faster Tre in Mad Max.

I have to say, injured both in OTA's now this one have me concerned.

That's the problem.  As smart as he is, he has very little room for error.  If the receiver gets past him, he's toast.

White got beat on a slant that went 40 yards for a TD.

that doesn't sound great.  Its one play in a practice but still seems like a bunch of people have to make mistake to give up a slant that goes to the house.

Max....get well soon!

Same. Max will start at some point this season, but his frame is ripe for injury concerns.  Im still a big fan of the pick, but we might be a season away from him playing significant snaps (hope im wrong).

Speaking of secondary, Im "hopeful" that Cole does what Bernard did in his 2nd season (injured part of camp, but wins starting spot and has a breakout year).  Quietly Rapp is also an injury concern, but stabilizes 1 safety spot when healthy.  If we have to revert to some combo of Hamlin, Lewis, Hancock, Forrest - we are in big trouble regardless of Cb2.

Tre White almost ran into Taron Johnson. As others speculated it was a slant over the middle with a lot of traffic to pick off the coverage.

Elsewhere in the article in The Athletic:

"In welcoming Allen, the reigning MVP, to Halas Hall on Friday, the Bears defense was put to the test. And although the Bears may have punched first, the Bills got the final word.

“It’s good going against an MVP quarterback. It challenges you,” linebacker Tremaine Edmunds said. “You play this game to go against the best. He’s playing big-time ball, so (we’re) able to see what we are.”

In the opening seven-on-seven period, the Bears’ defensive backs were immediately disruptive. Nahshon Wright proved to be one of the bright spots of the day. On Allen’s second throw — an incomplete pass to wide receiver Kristian Wilkerson — Wright nearly came up with an interception. Later in the period, Allen’s pass intended for wideout Keon Coleman was tipped, and Wright just missed the chance to snag it out of the air."

"Safety Jaquan Brisker was consistently on the ball throughout the day. In seven-on-seven, he nearly intercepted Allen’s incomplete pass intended for tight end Dawson Knox, then he swatted down Allen’s next throw.

Allen was intercepted three times — first in seven-on-seven drills by Kevin Byard III and then during 11-on-11s by Wright, who brought in the ball after it was tipped over the middle, but the play was called back on defensive holding. Edmunds came up with the final pick of his former teammate during red zone drills."

"Allen and the Bills offense soon found some rhythm, though. Allen completed back-to-back passes to Coleman later in the day, the second of which resulted in a 30-yard touchdown. Coleman badly beat Wright to get open along the sideline, then turned on the jets to haul in one of his multiple scores."
