Tulsabillsfanz Posted August 13 Posted August 13 I’m glad they were able to make the deal. It was not looking promising to me every time Cook kept promoting 15M per year.  I thought 3 years @ 10-12 was the fair range.  Beane apparently negotiated hard to keep it close to that range.  One concern I had with the contract was the 4 years, especially considering James will turn 30 in September of that final year and his brother Dalvin declined a lot at 28.   However, Dalvin had much more wear on his legs at a young age.  He had 687 carries at Florida State vs James 230 carries at Georgia.  Overall, Dalvin (now 30) has 2044 carries (NFL & college).  James (26 in September) has 763 carries (NFL & college).   Hopefully James lighter workload so far in his career will allow him to still have his speed throughout this contract.  1 1 Quote

stlbills13 Posted August 13 Posted August 13 Interested to see how much guaranteed money each year. I am happy with the deal but ideally it's one you could get out of with a year or two left if you really need it 1 Quote
BillsfaninSB Posted August 13 Posted August 13 The Rams RB has to be pissed. Â Just as good in many ways and a far better blocker. Â Lesson learned; hold-in and be patient. Â Â 1 Quote

Williams is a volume back who you can keep slamming into the line and who can stay in the pocket as an extra blocker. A more athletic fullback practically.  Cook is a dynamic athlete with great vision and elite speed who can create holes that arent there (per testimonial of Dion Dawkins), and then break it and take it to the house and change the game in one play.  Playmakers are valuable and usually get paid more. 3 Quote

He is an important part of the offense. Plus there is no need to draft another rb high next year. McD can ask for another corner or safety now. Quote

What we have now isn't bad but it isn't great either. Imagine if Josh had someone like Garrett Wilson to throw to. Edited August 13 by Gregg 1 Quote

If you do not have an answer then don't quote someone who has a question, I am still curious at this junction. since this is an extension it doesn’t kick in until next year. His number won’t impact that. If anything they would have reduced his number this year.  the bills will free up space at cutdown day to get by this season.  Cutting either tribusky or white along with some other likely vets that will get cut (Forrest, hamler, Virgil, green(OL), Dane Jackson will free up enough cap once it’s based on the full roster (53) to be 2-3 million under the cap. There also guys like Dawkins who can be restructured to free up 9 million or can be extended as well.  As far a next year goes we can free up 40-50 million pretty easily by restructuring guys like, Allen, Dawkins, Knox, brown, Oliver and cutting Curtis Samuel  Quote

His biggest investment was Torrence with a 2nd round pick. It was also Carolina’s philosophy when he was there under their guys.  The problem I see is that Torrence will be he’ll be 26-27, on a top of the line OL for the Bills, in a league desperate for good young offensive lineman , in a market that now overpays prime offensive guards. I just don’t see Beane going down that route when Kromer has been developing guys so well.  Torrence is likely to get at least 15 mill AAV and that is on the low end he realistically might end up at 17 or 18 AAV I am not thinking that unless he is going to the pro bowl... I am looking top 10- 15 more like 8-10mm 18mm for a guard I would say go back to my insane money comment lol Quote
Nester Posted August 13 Posted August 13 Great news ! I LOVE IT - 12 seemed to be the number all along.  4 years is good imo, he has not had substantial wear and tear like others in this range. Quote
