Has anyone had that Pittsford Farms Dairy from Hard Knocks?

While I agree that the ice cream is great, Pittsford Dairy isn’t just a summer gem. Winter baked goods are also outstanding and the holiday season is particularly good. (Pittsford Dairy egg nog is legendary.) In short, you can count on year-round excellence there!!

Listen, as an ice cream lover of the highest order, I don't say this lightly:

Pittsford Dairy is my favorite ice cream place in the world.

It's got lots of great baked goods, packaged yum-yums, and is a generally well organized and lovely (if overpriced) place.

But the ice cream? Oh man. It's good. I particularly love the soft serve peanut butter cup sundae.

In my opinion, it's worth the trip and worth the weight. Elite ice cream.

Tried it just a couple months ago, when we were bringing back my younger son from his Freshman year in College. Stopped at one of those amazing looking produce stands that have all kinds of fresh fruits and vegetables, and saw they also had garlic ice cream, so had to try it.

 

The upshot is we got 20 avocados for $1.00 and a small cup of garlic ice cream for $5.00.   Somebody's been to business school! 🤣

 

The ice cream was good, and the guacamole I made when I got home was outstanding!!

If you like ice cream and come to ROC, Abbotts has awesome frozen custard, and Lugia's in Spencerport has ice cream cones served so tall, they could be on the Flintstones lol

 

So I left Rochester around 18 years ago, don't think Pittsford Dairy was there then, plus I lived northwest of city so didn't get out that was very often.  For the 30+ years I was there Abbotts was #1, so do question which one is better.  Personally I liked Schalers better than Abbotts as was a bit "fluffier" it seemed.  But Abbotts was the most talked about.

Yeah, as I mentioned before, it holds up well against any ice cream place I've been to in the US, and I have been to a ton of them lol. The good gelato places in Italy are understandably a cut above, but Pittsford Dairy, the creamery in PA that I mentioned, and one hidden gem in DC that I've found are probably the best ice cream I've had here.

Abbotts is great, but frozen custard is a different animal. That used to be our go-to before Pittsford Farms dairy was around.

on a side note, if anyone has the chance...try their egg nog.  holy ***** is it amazing.

I wish it was closer. Hoover’s Dairy in Sanborn has some delicious nog too.

It's good. I live in the Bushnell's Basin area, so I am about 5-10 minutes away from Pittsford Dairy. It's not life-changing, so I wouldn't advise people from far outside of the Rochester metropolitan area to make a trip just for that. I would recommend checking it out if you're in town though.

It’s good, but not life changing. You expressed my feelings perfectly. I think they have good stuff on par with other fresh dairy producers and similar businesses. I have family from PA, and I think I was spoiled fresh dairy and Dutch country stuff down there. Much of it for a very good price. I always feel like there’s a bit of a Pittsford price inflation as well. I don’t think the quality always matches the cost.

Shipped my Dad some abbott's one year, they sent it on dry ice, came frozen into the south no problem.

I lived in Bushnells Basin which was technically Perinton, but that whole area has managed to keep its charm and stay beautiful/safe over the years. Money talks.

Yeah, Abbott's Custard is fantastic as well, unique and the one right around Pittsford especially, in Bushnell Basins.

Fran-ceil  Custard in Lackawanna, NY has the richest/creamiest soft serve custard ice cream I ever had.

i know it is not the same as the as these farm dairy places, but still hit it every time I return to WNY - in season.
