Neither he nor Micah's contracts will match their impact.

He’ll end up being paid like Dak, vastly over market and way too much guaranteed bc Jerruh thinks he’s getting a bargain and over pays literally everyone.

They did go and get Rodgers so that says they want to win now, and Watt is a huge part of their team. But Watt or no Watt I can't see them beating the Ravens for the division.

TJ Watt >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> James Cook

Honestly, did anyone think Watt wouldn't get a new deal from Pittsburgh?

Wow, that is a lot of greater than signs!..

..when contrasting Watt, one of the best defensive ends in the NFL, to James Cook, one of the best running backs in the league, and a guy just getting started.

17 times greater than Cook! Shoot, we should just 'let Cook walk'.

I cannot wait until Beane gets this done.

I don't understand why that gets reported as $41m/yr...it's 95% most likely not going to be that...they should report it as $36m/yr...and even then, without having looked, I'm gonna assume it's a two year deal with a void year even if there isn't a void year...like he'll restructure or be cut after the second year most likely as a pre workout bonus designated as a post June 1 cut or something?

But yeah, why do they report average yearly salary based on the total value and not the guaranteed value or at least give it as two values: the guaranteed/yr and the max value/yr.

It's not just a small annoyance either, people use that to calculate % of cap at signing and such and it drives narratives and pro bowl/all pro voting, etc.

We don’t have all the details yet, but if new money is $123M over 3 seasons as reported, then that’s $41M AAV. Where do you get $36M from?

I took it to mean Watt is a better DE than James Cook, to which I cannot disagree.

$108m guaranteed over three years

I’m not shocked it happened but boy do Cleveland and Pittsburgh need to trade these guys for elite picks to go get a qb

sitting in qb purgatory chasing Lamar and burrow is a fools game

That’s why they gave the guaranteed amount, which is different than the AAV.

So you’re saying they shouldn’t try to win games or keep their other good players?

Do you like our odds with Josh and a decent roster vs Tyrod and an better roster?

I don’t like the Steelers entire offseason though, candidly. They 3/4 pushed in the chips for a Super Bowl they aren’t going to win.

Obviously the Bills, but many here act like the Steelers have that choice. Or that they shouldn’t extend one of the best defensive players in the league because they don’t have a Josh Allen level QB. It’s ridiculous.

I don’t think it’ll work out for the Steelers either, but they’re trying and giving themselves a chance to do well this season. What would you have them do? Simply tank season after season until they can draft a FQB? How’s that been working for the Browns?

The AAV amount is largely meaningless because it's not based on the guaranteed amount, is the point I'm making.

they are both meaningful, though I’d also argue that the fully guaranteed money total is more meaningful. the combination of AAV and fully guaranteed money paints a clear picture of the contract. IIRC you suggested that guaranteed money per year should have been the figure reported instead of AAV. that is not meaningful at all.

Jerruh has an interesting habit of always waiting for the price to go UP before he signs big deals. He’s not quite an idiot like Haslam, but he’s not the genius he thinks he is, either.
