Even though he was a D1 bench player and took Izzo’s advice to focus on football, he’s still an athletic specimen with basketball skills, so in a game where defense isn’t a thing and other players his size aren’t moving like him, it’s no surprise he scored 60 (or 70 as I’ve seen in another report).

Suffering an injury while doing a bunch of windmill dunks in a charity basketball game would be right on brand for him. They were good dunks, though, I have to admit.

He's clearly a bit of a space cadet. I like the guy and think he will be a decent WR, but it is what it is.

I mean you can say that about any of the guys on the team playing the softball game every year where they can get hurt as well, or these guys just working out in the offseason, or any extra curricular activity that other guys on the team do, including Josh, over each offseason.

I'm having a hard time visualizing Josh tearing an ACL over a putt.

It was a Damar Hamlin charity event, and there were a bunch of Bills there along with others. I wonder if it would it be on brand if one of the others got hurt?

Only if it was Kevin Kolb.

He could hurt his back on a swing, could tear an ACL playing his Hydes annual softball game rounding a base or chasing a ball, etc.  I mean, its not like these guys are in bubble wrap in the offseason.  Allen also plays basketball in the offseason too by the way.

Players across the NFL do this kind of stuff all the time, not sure why its an issue for some when Keon does it in a teammates charity game.

True BUT the poster has a legit point, doing windmill dunks so high in the air is taking it too far imo, he very easily could have hurt an ankle, comparing it to Josh Allen playing softball is an absurd reach. If I was McDermott i would not be very happy.

Exactly, but unfortunately the insane level of nonstop homerism on this site doesn't allow for pragmatic thinking like this

We just need to be good fans and agree that going full-Space Jam carries the exact same amount of risk for an ACL tear as playing croquet with young children on the front lawn.

A reach?  A guy who plays basketball his whole life dunking isn't some high probability injury situation, the over reaction IMO is a bit of a reach.  And guys have hurt their ankles rounding bases or chasing balls in softball plenty of times too.  Also not a high probability for risk, but definitely not an absurd comparison either.

Point is - this wasn't that serious and nothing outside the ordinary of what professional athletes do in the offseason either.  On the risk factor scale on what they could be doing, this was pretty low.

Did you watch the video of Keon  playing basketball?  Josh Allen does play basketball but comparing his play to Keon's, again as I have already stated is an absurd reach.  And you comments that Allen could hurt his back on a swing or tear an ACL playing softball, all I can say is we are clearly not going to agree on this.  No I dont want them in bubble wrap just use some common sense.  This is why a lot of teams in their contracts explicitly detail what the players can not participate in.

I have family in the NFL world and let me tell you - playing basketball in a charity game is one of the safer things these guys do.  There is a higher chance of an injury lifting weights than they do dunking a basketball.

These are testosterone fueled animals, they are crazy in the offseason.  This stuff is much safer than letting these guys out on their own accord lol

Glad you have family in the NFL and yes I understand the dynamics.  Robert Edwards career ended with a simple game of flag football, my point is these are million $ properties and I would strongly suggest toe Keon to safeguard his health.
