I think this is squarely on Beane. His efforts in building the dline has underwhelmed to date. He has spent a lot of mid tier money on guys who all seem to underwhelm.  He has also spent a decent amount of draft capital on the position, and we have yet to find/land a DE1. 2 of the head scratchers for me, was not going after Danielle Hunter, or Trey Hendrickson when he was a FA. Until we get the dline right, we will not win a SB. Let's hope he did better this go round with this class.

I was sincerely surprised how he has turned the O line into a formidable asset !

 Bills honestly are not good at "nailing IIT " though. Its a fair statement.

Perhaps the Defense is too complicated or cerebral after all.

Nothing defined for me. I read everyday early pick rookies getting injured. FA high  $ acquisitions as well .

 Rooting for the Laundry is all I can do.

The irony is that the Hairston pick was probably made to address some of these criticisms... he wasn't by any means a safe pick. On the contrary he was a guy with elite traits and a very high ceiling.

 

We saw flashes of that in the handful of practices he participated in. His speed and quickness are off the charts.

I'm saying this mostly blind to any recent updates on Tre (if any), but maybe this means Tre is closer to ready than we thought.

What a mess! That’s now TWO first round picks at CB that haven’t gotten on the field. I know it’s a bit of bad luck but this cat only has so many lives before times up.

The CB room is deeply concerning with top 3 having injury concerns. We barely got out of preseason so I’m not ready to assume somehow this is all good news for Tre and he’s somehow going to survive 17 games.  I could see Tre and Maxwell having to sit. Which leaves us very vulnerable.

Tre White will be in the lineup in the opener and the team knows it. They’re not giving away any information if they’re not obligated to divulge.

 

 They seem to really believe in competitive advantage, right or wrong.

Tre just needs to hold down CB2 for 4 weeks.  Maybe Dorian Strong surprises us all, he has the talent.

 

I'd say we are in good shape, as long as Benford stays healthy.

McDermott has done well with less than this. Elite schemer. Think he’ll be able to protect the D enough to give Josh a chance to win games even if Tre isn’t there or struggling

We have benford and thats it. Taron was an all pro, but started falling off last year.  

 

I would have invested heavily in press/ man corners this offseason.   Mahomes, Burrow etc get the ball out fast, we have to be able to jam and hold up WR's better to allow the pass rush to generate pressure.

Taron isnt falling off.  

 

It was Rasul losing five steps and Elam being forced into action.

 

And we did invest in the secondary - our top pick and 2 mid/late draft picks.  You act like we are running it back with the same group.

 

Same goes for DL - invested both draft and FA.

 

Not sure I understand this opinion.  Max will be back after 4 weeks, we have a lot of talent at cornerback/this is probably the best group McD has had since being here.

Week one presents a real challenge though because Baltimore likes to play big with two tight ends and it will be really tough for Buffalo to play nickel as a base and have Johnson out there.  
 

I think the jets and pats are going to play big and just run the ball at Buffalo also.  These are going to be big challenges for Buffalo.  Hopefully they have a good plan for this.
