billsfan89 Posted Monday at 04:44 PM Posted Monday at 04:44 PM Dude isn't even 30, big loss for the Lions dude was an All-Pro center multiple times over and entering an age where you figured he had at least 3-4 more quality high end years left. But these dudes know they have to take care of their health. I hope this is a precautionary measure and not a response to some specific life altering thing. 2 Quote

Up 24-7 at half to lose 34-31. Last year they got riddled by injuries and lost their best defensive player for the season. They got blasted in the divisional round. Now, everyone is a year older, they lose all of their coordinators, their All-Pro C retires. Windows close fast in the NFL. Especially when you have a good QB instead of a great one. Look at the Niners, same deal. Talent erosion is impossible to stop over 2-3 seasons. 2 4 Quote

It's set up for them to get to the SB in much the same way the Bills schedule is. Their division is tougher but the Lions schedule has the greatest rest advantage in the league. It comes down to whether Campbell got the coordinator hires right and if they can stay healthier. Losing a center is no big deal. Just gotta' find a different body to block air on 3rd and long. Quote

Especially with skittish Jared coming out to play and how screen/misdirection heavy the Lions offense has historically been. Now, they may get away from that stuff without Ben Johnson. I don't think losing Ragnow is the same as losing Johnson, but it is more evidence that they are getting eroded piece by piece imo. 1 Quote
PetermansRedemption Posted Monday at 05:33 PM Posted Monday at 05:33 PM Reminds me of an Eric Wood type of retirement. Where there was some external factor that nudged him to that decision. Quote

Centers have help on both sides and often spend the most important downs blocking air. And physically at least, Tate Ratledge is an upgrade on Ragnow. When you pick an interior offensive lineman in round 2 like that you are thinking he is going to be a stud. It's not like they have Colin Brown taking over at center. Maybe you thought the Eagles would miss Kelce too but they didn't. Jergens was just fine. I know the outside opinion was that losing Mitch Morse last offseason was huge but he was easily upgraded upon. 5 Quote
