There is a time and a place for both. We don’t eat much red meat, but when we do it’s a treat. 

 

I had a new burger this week just added to the lunch menu at a regular place I go. They have “specialty burgers” for $15-$18, but they added a simple single patty with tomato, red onion and pickles plus fries for $9.95. That’s all I can eat anyway! I’ll do that again. 

 

I looked at steaks this week in the grocery store. A couple of NY Strips was $36, and a couple tenderloins was $41.  That’s just for the meat, then you have to take it home and make it. I kept walking. The wife won’t order steak when we go out because she says we make it better at home (sous vide and properly seasoned). It’s hard for me to argue that.  

 

I probably have a burger a bit more often, but I prefer the less frequent steak so that got my vote. 🥩

it's like saying if you like tomato or toma-toe. They are both beef

 

I voted burger because the kind of steak I covet is pricey and I'm comfortable but not rich

 

a medium rare prime rib with marinated mushrooms side Baked potato sour cream and chives, butter on the side horseradish sauce a good au jus. One of the best in town is served at an Italian place called Filippis of all things  CHEFS KISS

 

I make a really good burger and my home made rime rib isn't bad but I have expensive taste. so burgers it is

I mean, I don't know anyone that's going to pass up on a good Steak for a Burger. The thing with Steak is it's easier to F up and generally way more expensive. All things equal though, a good steak crushes a good burger and it's not even close.

Oh my! I miss a good prime rib. They used to have it at the brunch where we lived, and that and a Bloody Mary (or two max) made for a fine Sunday morning with the family. It’s been at least 15 years since I’ve had that pleasure. 

 

My habits have changed over the years, less red meat and beer, but more wine and fish.

A burger is great, even better if it's a ground prime rib or ground brisket burger (Tops has them) but I'll take a porterhouse or NY strip steak with a Montreal dry rub on it every time.

In Ontario, provincial health regulations have caused most burger restaurants to not serve any burger not medium or longer prepared.  I know of no such restrictions on steaks, I still see 'blue' as being a choice.  They walk close to the ambience fireplace as they bring it to your table.

 

Growing up, we were a steak once a week menu at home, but never the pricey cuts.  Whenever chuck steaks (blade steaks in Canada) were on sale, Ma would stock up and freeze them.  We found grilling them from frozen worked just fine.

I had had both steaks and burgers before, but I have very different memories of the first ones that got my attention. I vividly remember both events.

 

My first hamburger memory is my oldest sister taking me at a McDonalds way back when. It was on Transit Road, and I loved the chocolate milkshake and the fries, and I remember I enjoyed the burger as well. 

 

The first mentionable steak was after my 8th grade on a trip to Acapulco. It was in the swankiest restaurant I had ever seen, located in our hotel. It was a NY Strip with an au poivre sauce that blew me away. That steak was one of this kids highlights of going to Mexico.

 

That, and the local kid on the way to the cliff diving who asked if I wanted to “rent” his sister in the middle of everything. That still sticks with me. We have it pretty good here.

Maybe the poll should be - if they were both equal price, which would you choose? 

 

I like to chew on a nice piece of steak every now and then.

I can't justify the exorbitant price of steak when we go out when I can make something I like just as much at home for a fraction of the cost

 

I miss a good prime rib

My father attempted to cook prime rib at home and failed once or twice so I never attempted. This is a steak that I will order out.
