What?  That is LITERALLY the point of how the WR room is BETTER now than when we had a guy who had no business being a WR2 starting as a WR2.  How is this confusing for you?  Not to mention, our WR4 and WR5 were journeyman backups in Sherfield and Harty where now we have Samuel and Moore, 2 guys who have done more and could compete to start still on other teams.

So yeah...2025 WR room has 5 players on it that could start on other teams.  2023 team had 2 and Davis, who you said should never be a starting WR2.

So how is the 2025 WR room not better than the 2023 group?

You're honestly confusing the hell out of me.  You're also asking a really dumb question.

We have the benefit of hindsight with the 2023 WR room and we have no clue how good this 2025 WR room will be.  So the best way I can answer the question is if you asked me to rank both WR groups before the start of each season it wouldn't be close.  The 2023 WR room would look far better than the 2025 WR room mostly because we had an alpha WR1 going into 2023.  Diggs was coming off a 1,429 yard season with 11 TD's.  Davis was younger and there was still optimism that he could improve because of the high ankle sprain he had early in the season in 2022 as WR2.  Harty and Sherfield were being sold as untapped potential that could blossom with Josh Allen as the QB.  Shakir we weren't even sure was going to make the team.

Right now on paper our best WR weapon is a tiny slot guy that can attack the short and intermediate areas of the field but isn't a deep threat.  The rest until proven otherwise would be considered an average WR3 or 4 on most teams.

I'd take him as a WR #5/6, good blocker, good locker room guy, could play ST if needed. Would have to set the clear expectation that it's not gonna be a starter/captain situation like last time, but he's certainly worthy of being on a roster. Still don't love not having a single plus starter, but our room would be deep:

1. Shakir

2. Coleman

3. Palmer

4. Moore

5. Samuel

6. Davis

If he has options, I don’t see Gabe jumping at an opportunity to compete for WR4/5 while likely signing a vet minimum.

if he’s going to sign for that, he might as well pick a situation where he’ll get a chance to prove himself.

If he returns to Buffalo, I think it happens later this summer because of injuries or if Coleman hasn’t made the progress they are hoping for.

Plus Gabe has an injury now, and it might make more sense for him to try out at full strength

What trait is that?

Speed, routes, and deep horizontal routes - 3 qualities clearly missing on 2024 Bills.

Failed physical. Maybe some setbacks?

Sad, Jags probably figured he won’t play much this year or be effective due to injury.

As long as Gabe Davis walks this earth, he will be in the discussion.  Surprised no Tyrod Taylor threads yet.

Lets hope

There should be a rule, if you aren’t good enough to play for the Jags, you aren’t good enough for the Bills.

I would think so. Maybe a late season add as a street FA if he has healed up a bit with more time.

Until I see him dipped in molten lava like the terminator I'm assuming it's not over.

Wait what? You want to instead compare the belief of what 2023 MIGHT be prior to playing instead of what we now KNOW they were after playing?  Come on, this is getting silly now.  No disrespect, but Diggs in 2022 has nothing to do with what Diggs was for all of 2023.

Second, I already posted this just prior to your post, I am just gonna quote it below rather than rewrite it again.  As far as having "no clue" what this group is just something I don't agree with, we know enough to have a reasonable idea of what each guy is in comparison to the guys who were here in 2023.  Its fine if you agree or disagree with any of the below, but IMHO I think they are all fair statements and I think several really aren't disputable.

I think we know more than you may realize...

  • We know Diggs wasn't the same in Brady's offense and also had some big drops.
  • We know that Palmer is seen to have better hands, bigger route tree, better route runner, and more consistent at getting open than Davis has been.
  • We know Keon was on pace as a rookie before he got hurt in week 11 to hit 800-900 yards and 7+ TD's. And this was despite not being a full time starter, playing in a spread the ball around offense that saw Allen connecting with 8 to 10 different receivers most weeks.
  • We know Shakir is a better player in 2025 than he was in 2023.
  • We know Samuel is better than Sherfield.
  • We know Moore is better than Harty.

So yes, we haven't seen the group on the field yet...nothing is certain...but its more than reasonable to think our WR situation is better today than when Gabe Davis last walked off the field playing for the Bills.
