teef Posted April 30 Posted April 30 without getting to into the specifics, we have friends that live around a popular course. this course does allow members to use their own carts, and many buy houses just to live near the course. one night, two wives wanted to pick something up from a friends out on another part of the course. they were hammered, it was dark, and drove right into one of the deeper ponds. apparently one of the wives had a very difficult time getting out, and her stuff sank with the cart. they honestly could have killed themselves, and now...no more non-course carts are allowed. members were pissed and they were banned for a summer. 3 Quote

We had a couple dicey moments with my wife saying SLOW DOWN Even the cart paths can be treacherous when wet. True story: Severe downhill par-3, short but the path is almost straight. We play, leave, drive up to the next teebox and hear the telltale "screeeeeee-KRASH". It's blind from the box but from the fairway we could see the group had lost control and smashed into a tree, cart over on it's side. There was a foursome so they had gathered round, I guess there must have been some injury involved since later an ambulance arrived. A week later we're playing again, same course. We're not getting pushed, we go to check out where they wrecked. The cooler was still there in the brush, with some unopened beverages. They were tasty. 1 Quote

People would bring their own up to the club to eat……..or for drinks. Zero chance. The Madison Club (where the accident happened) is an extremely exclusive private club and there’s no way they would allow something like that on the course. I’ve been playing golf for more than 50 years and I’ve never seen a “4-seater” being used by golfers on an actual golf courses. It’s just not a thing. 1 Quote

So were they on the course? On a cart path? What did he hit his head on? Or at the club, or leaving the club? I’m sure it’s much swankier than where we lived, but it was pretty high end and you’d see 4 seaters on the course in the evenings. You just know the rangers have a routine, and only for a little while, and you keep your distance. It’s often the easiest way to get home from the club or a friend's. The worst they’re going to do is politely ask you to exit the course. EDIT: I’ve never seen one used by golfers, either. I thought they had just come from a party. . Edited April 30 by Augie Quote

I just read some other reports of the incident and they say the accident did not happen on the golf course, but on the way home from a function at the club, probably on a roadway. If it didn’t happen on the course, it very well could have been one of those 4-seaters. 1 Quote

Yes, the exact wording leaves open the possibility of something more, like if a witness appeared or something. Let’s hope that’s not the case. It’s horrible, but I pray it was just a freak accident. For all we know, he might have had a preexisting condition and was a walking time bomb. That’s just craziness out of left field, but we don’t know what we don’t know. 1 Quote

But in this instance like when they are saying fell off the back.... it sounds like he is standing on the golf bag holders and fell backwards and hit his head... if he was seated in the back like a 4 seater... I just cant picture it unless the cart tipped... anyway it doesnt matter what I can picture or not.. I am sure there is going to more to come regarding this... either way I hope this man recovers. Reallyyyyyyy? Thats fast as heck. Ive only rented them at courses a handful of times, and theyve all been governed to ~10 maybe 15mph, and I know crazy stuff happens but was wondering how the heck this happened. Knowing its Elway ($$$) makes it more likely this one was like yours and pretty quick. I used to take a Ducati up to Superbike Track in Oneonta, so I dont say this lightly... 30mph on a wheelbase that short, with some soft side-walled tires sounds scary as ****. 1 hour ago, SoCal Deek said: He was just at the Nuggets Clippers game last night. Ours was “street legal” with headlights, blinkers, seatbelts, etc. I never wore a seatbelt by any means, but I was in Florida and everything was as flat as a pool table. If you hit a bump at a good speed, you’d better hold on. Quote

Fan in Chicago Posted April 30 Posted April 30 Last year, we were on a course which was quite hilly and navigating a few turns on the cart path was quite treachorous. This news is just a tragic reminder that even though they move slowly, golf carts can be deadly too. Quote
RobbRiddick Posted April 30 Posted April 30 Right that's it. From now on Josh is banned from riding in or driving golf carts. In fact I don't want him playing golf at all, it's a stupid sport 4 Quote
