For the love of god it would have been 4th and 6 ............ they eventually went for it on 4th and 5.  It made exactly a 1 yard difference accepting or declining the penalty.  The Rams were always going to go for it.  We had to stop them and we didn't.

3rd & 7 at BUF 37

(4:47 - 4th) (Shotgun) M.Stafford scrambles left end pushed ob at BUF 36 for 1 yard (C.Lewis). ** Injury Update: BUF-Ta.Johnson has returned to the game. PENALTY on LA-S.Avila, Offensive Holding, 9 yards, enforced at BUF 37 - No Play.

4th & 5 at BUF 35

(3:53 - 4th) (Shotgun) M.Stafford pass short middle to T.Atwell to BUF 24 for 11 yards (T.Rapp).

The answer is right in your post.

They burned nearly ANOTHER FULL MINUTE off the clock by accepting that penalty.

So we gave them an extra yard AND a gift of burning a minute.

It was a lose-lose!

Out schemed and out coached yet again, no NFL team should ever score 42 points and lose.

We don't give up that blocked punt it's possible the Rams score 37 and lose.  Hell even if we don't use that damn time out on the goal line I think we still have a chance.  It is a shame.  Hopefully our defense learned something from this.

dude.  Valid criticism of McD’s late game disasters are fine.  You are trolling now.

Calling it a “disaster” is exactly what I’m mocking. The hyperbole around here is unreal.

It’s a meaningless loss to an NFC team.

Why is no one questioning Douglas and Rapp for giving up that circus catch to Kupp?

You have to call time out after the sneak, unless you're cool with the next play starting with about 25 seconds left on the clock

25 seconds, give me a break, most offense can reset and run a sneak again in 15 seconds if that.

We earned better than this. McClappy is not the guy. I'm sorry, folks. He's not.

Josh Allen just had a first ever historical performance and McClappy's defense is absolutely horrible. Stop defending him. Stop making excuses for McClappy.

Any HC, with a prime Josh Allen, James Cook, Shakir, and Kincaid, can make the playoffs.

But can we go all the way with a terrible defense and a HC who crumbles during crunch time? Nope.

Huh? You can’t hurry up and get set when everyone is basically at the line of scrimmage already?

In this end of game situation zero chance guys are lined up and ready

The defense isn't gonna be very cooperative with getting off the linemen

Go back watch the end of the first half against the giants last season.....it's exactly what the bills did to tyrod

Not only that,  and I know it would be asking a lot at that point, but could have had two plays called in that situation.

Well good news everybody. Everyone hated McDermotts decisions once every 7 weeks. Today and against the Texans. If he keeps up that pace it will be in the Super Bowl

interestingly it also correlates with losses.   I defend McDermott but the timeout was the wrong move.  Is there any argument otherwise?

There’s an argument imo to accepting the penalty.

All it takes is a tipped pass or some other dumb luck and they are punting.

They were gonna go 4th and medium regardless imo.

I’m going to go out on a limb and guess that the “anti-McDermott” people would have preferred a blowout victory, not another bungled loss by the coaching staff

I want, so bad, to be wrong about McDermott.

His culture is amazing and he’s a genuinely awesome person.

After Josh Allen, Sean McDermott would the best most emotional I get seeing win a Super Bowl…

But everyone knows that this is the fear in the playoffs.. and it’s a fear for a reason.

It ain't the offense that's gonna be the issue

Go back watch the end of the first half of bills giants last season, the defenders will lay on top of the offensive players for as long as possible

It wouldn’t take 35 seconds off the clock. Rams would probably be flagged for unsportsmanlike.

Either way, you HAVE to preserve the timeout. Otherwise it all comes down to the onside, which it did, and we lost of course and never touched the ball again.

im not saying it was high probability we win even if they call it exactly right. But to call it wrong is strikingly egregious.

It’s not a meaningless loss? That contradicts McD packaged hyperbole 101. They wouldn’t have put up 42 if it was a meaningless loss.

It was playoff practice and Josh Allen succeeded, while McD failed. Rinse and repeat. Thankfully they have a unique opportunity to get it right over the course of weeks now.
