Just creating this so that, going forward I can put all the repetitive Belichik threads in one place instead of folks having to see them all over the board.

Bill is an awesome coach and I can respect what he’s managed to achieve during his tenure with the Patriots.

However, I don’t know how I’d feel if we hired him. Would be a sour taste if we hired him and never ended up winning a SB under his guidance.

I agree w/ your last line there - but fortune favors the bold.

When he had a top QB, he averaged a Super Bowl every other year.  The Pats downfall was because of Belichick the GM - not the coach.

One cannot even full blame him as a GM as the Patriots were in cap hell after Brady left in 2019 for a couple years and never had a top pick to grab a QB to get out of it (we are in cap hell with no super bowl trophies due to McDermott and Beane being idiots)

The way the league runs now, a very good coach needs a very good QB to consistently win and that usually involves grabbing one early on in the draft. During the drought, the Bills often were mediocre enough to not snag a top QB (one year, 2004, Eli Manning, Rivers and Roethlisberger all went before we took Losman so we never had a chance to really change our franchise then). Beane lucked out that the Bills acquired enough draft capital to move up to grab Allen very early in the draft as without doing so, we would have been in similar mediocrity.

Belichick managed to drag Mac Jones to a playoff game and a winning record in another season due to his coaching and his defenses largely being very solid. Injuries and the league figuring Jones out ruined them this year but those same Patriots beat us even though we had more talent.

Now the Patriots have a ton of cap room and a top pick to snag a very good QB, Belichick probably would have turned them around if he had stayed. Dude's track record without Brady isn't as bad as people make it out to be. He rebuilt the Browns to a team that could win in the playoffs without Brady in the early 90s before salary cap and free agency allowed for easy quick rebuilds (why it took him a few years). The team announcing it's move killed that project. He has the Patriots at 11-5 with Cassel in 2008. Patriots went 3-1 without Brady during the deflate gate *****. And he got Mac Jones to a playoff game and a solid record the second year after salary cap hell, years of no top draft picks, and COVID retirements killed the roster (Hightower retired early as one example).

Dude can still coach the hell out of a defense to finish games (last Patriots super bowl was won by the defense and his defense played very tight this year despite the injuries and despite the offense being a ***** show due to not having had capital to get a good QB). Give him Allen and there's no 13 seconds *****, no Chiefs marching down the field and scoring practically every time, etc (Patriots defense played the Chiefs better this year despite Zappe repeatedly giving them short fields - not reflected in the point total but watch the game). And the dude has hit on key guys as a GM. Judon. Barmore. Dugger. Douglas. Gonzalez. Just some examples.

It's interesting that apparently Harbaugh to Chargers is a done deal, as I think that would have been the most desirable stop for Bill among teams looking for a coach this year.

Opening the door that much more for us to sign him up.

Pegula can give him a "birthday present" of whatever 60 foot fishing boat he wants, and a slip in Erie Basin Marina.

Oh, and double whatever New England paid him.

Don't give him General Manager powers, however.  I do NOT think BB would argue that at this stage of his career.

He's getting older, but that guy as our HC is the stuff of dreams.

If it goes south after 2 years, we will be NO FURTHER BEHIND than where we are going to be with McDermott, anyway.

Unlike some others here (you know who you are), you spelled his last name correctly in the topic title.  Very cool.

I'd like to add - in a normal year, where only untested coordinators were available, I'd be generally okay w/ keeping McDermott.  I see him as a solid coach, in a league where bad coaching is more common than good coaching.

But this is a real chance that we're presented with here, and only here.  Next year, if we fall short again - our choices will likely be only untested coordinators.

The bottom line:  who will give us a better chance for a title next year?  McDermott, or the GOAT?

Harbaugh is still interviewing with Falcons...not so sure its a done deal with Chargers yet.  Don't forget just how notoriously cheap Spanos can be, so while it seemed likely he would go to Chargers, I am in I will believe it when I see it mode because of Spanos.

BB is a great DC, maybe the best ever.  He's won 6 SB with Brady as his QB.  Since then has done pretty bad, granted has not had a good QB.  Where he's been rather poor the past ten years is his role as GM.  I think Brady was just so good and so dedicated (IMO more than Allen is too) that they won SB's even with the bad drafting BB did.

So overall wouldn't excite me bringing him in here.

Posted a while back about a conversation I heard on the radio thee final week of the regular season before Bill not coming back was official…

They were talking about Atlanta. I think give the assists they have and an owner who’s willing to spend makes that a great destination. There’s pieces there if they can hit on a QB… Division isn’t that great so you’ve got a chance every year even with a team in rebuild.

I agree that we better get a golden fiddle if we are gonna make a deal with that particular devil.

CBS should bring him in as a color commentator to pair with Ian Eagle.

He'd be the Sling Blade of announcers.

As much as everyone wants to give Brady all the props for everything Bill has ever done, those first 3 Superbowls has a lot more to with coaching then QB play.  And throughout the years the  systems his teams played were constantly changing to the strengths of the players on both sides of the ball. ***** he went 12-4 with Matt Cassel, that’s more impressive than 9-7 with Tyrod Taylor. 😂 How do you think the Peterman season would have went if lasted 16 games instead of 2 quarters? 😂

McD and Beane are now searching to make one or two more plays so the can get over the obstacle in front of them, the Chiefs. That’s still not the ultimate goal, it’s a bump along way. Have they played to their players strengths or continually tried to fit a square peg in a round hole? They continue drafting high  D players and then go grab vets to the job for them. The team just ain’t moving forward. Right now we got a freak at QB that has taken this team as far as he can without more help around him.
