Return to big play offence

Recommended Posts

The difference in the game was a problem most of this season,  no big chuck plays.  Chiefs had 8 plays of 20 yards or more and Bills had O, so many passes that did not go 10 yards pass the line of scrimmage. How many short passes? Allen finished with 186 yards,  that is not good enough

The goal this offseason is bringing in another big play receiver and get back to being a big play offence that gets big chuck plays.  Our receivers rarely create separation and Allen needs to throw into tight windows to make a play,  sometimes resulting in interceptions

Yep. The lack of separation downfield has been a big issue. We can get people open on rubs and crossers and the middle of the field stuff but we can't separate vertically.

Personnel wise it is the #1 issue on this football team.

Over the course of the year some of it has also been on Josh - his accuracy on deep shots has not been good enough. But all three deeper balls last night were thrown right where they needed to be and Sherfield x2 and Diggs couldn't come up with them.

I don't think Brady is only running and dinking and dunking because he wants to. I think he is doing it because the second half of the year especially Cook, Kincaid and Shakir have been our three best offensive weapons. And while they are all good young players other than the occasional seam route for Kincaid they are going to be small ball players for the most part. They are not guys who are going to make plays regularly 25 yards down the field.

Agree, we need to be more explosive on offense.  But also maintain our ground game/short passing too.

We just don't the WR weapons, simple as that.  Took 3 chances deep yesterday, Sherfield 2x and Diggs 1x.  All 3 were great passes.  Diggs either playing through an injury or majorly regressed in 2nd half of season. I lean toward injury, based on what he showed to start the year.

A legit #2, competition for Shakir, and some adjustments to scheme.  Joe Brady showed he can run a short passing/efficient offense, but didn't "wow" me.  He brought an aspect that Daboll and Dorsey lacked- a run game/short attack.  He was running Dorseys scheme, so I'm confident he'd improve, question is how much?

If fans want to know what Brady actually wants to do, they should go look at 2019 LSU highlights. Burrow threw the ball all over the place to Chase and Jefferson. The Bills just don't have the players to do that.

Diggs and Sherfield BOTH dropped our ‘big plays’.

16 passes not 2 yards beyond the line of scrimmage,  that is Trent Edwards level offence

Exactly. And Diggs has lost his speed and hands.

Diggs was never super fast but he does look slower

No, you are so incredibly wrong here. The game plan was to control the ball and keep it away from Mahomes chewing on our depleted D

Go watch the tape,  not enough passes down the field.  It was 16 passes that did not go beyond the line of scrimmage

I have literally no idea what you want to see. The Bills were going toe to toe with the World Champions last night. The game wasn’t lost by a lack of so called big plays. It was lost because our kicker flat out sucks and our defense couldn’t stop the opponent…at all. Your wet dream of big plays would’ve just given the Chiefs offense the ball back even sooner. Big plays? Big deal! Al Davis just called and he wants his philosophy back. 😉

It worked.  If we stuck to that plan, we likely put up 31 points on an exceptional Chiefs D despite no field position help.

Brady was ruthless with the dink and dunk.  Sometimes that is what the defense is giving you.

Watch the tape? I watched the game…

Any fool could see that Mahomes/Kelce will have their way against our depleted and slow linebackers.. it was a good game plan. The big play receivers choked.

LMAO!  you really believe had he made that kick Mahomes is not going down the field for game winning FG?  Your wet dream that has us stopping him with just under 2 mins when we could not stop him with 13 secs.  Come on dude,  they needed 7 to have any chance or were watching another late game game winning FG.

You do realize that your big plays make us score faster not slower, right? The Bills offensive game plan worked as well as it could have last night. They planned on controlling the ball and the clock and they just that. We had DOUBLE the plays and DOUBLE the time of possession. Unfortunately our defense simply couldn’t stop KC at all. Not even a little bit.

The goal is to score,  we only scored 7 points in the second half

How much say will Brady have to get what he needs?

That offensive game plan worked so well that I managed to only score 7 points in the second half.

Unless they draft the offensive weapons, next season not much will change. They don't have the cap to spend on big upgrades

We will be able to make room in the cap just like every year.

If Beane needs Brady to tell him his WR room needs major work then we need a new general manager.

Gabe was a great 4th round pick. Shakir is looking like a great 5th round pick. But the true difference makers at WR rarely come from day 3. He needs to spend major assets on drafting receivers.

Have the Bills receivers made a single downfield contested catch in all of the 2023 season?  Watching other games week after week, every team has a guy that steps up and makes big time contested catches.  It's happened against us numerous times this season.  Even MVS had a great downfield sideline catch with Taron Johnson right on him for the Chiefs last night.  We haven't had anyone aside from maybe Kincaid making those plays for us this year.   We not only don't have a WR1 or WR2 that can get separation, they aren't catching in traffic and are dropping tons of balls when they aren't in traffic.   It's kind of shocking we made it as far as we did considering.

They have made a few, but it isn't necessarily our stock in trade. My concern is less the contested catches..... it is the lack of vertical separation. That is the biggest issue.

Yah there could have been a couple of those if they wouldn't have dropped the freakin ball !!!

I don't know what the hell has crawled up Diggs A** but he needs to get it checked out then Cook needs to spend all freakin off season on the jugs machine because that was the 3rd WIDE OPEN DROPPED CATCH this season WTH .

Josh tried once again to carry the team to victory but for god sake they need to help the guy out a bit . When you can't depend on your number one supposed GO TO WR in Diggs who else is there . Then you fastest guy being Harty could have been used on some go routes but not 1 time did i see him on any .
