Kaiir Elam is a liability any time he is on the field

Elam didn’t play well but I think it’s better he takes his lumps now so that by December he hopefully gets into form and is rolling. He had some nice plays like a good jam or two on Ridley.

McD is one of the best secondary coaches in the league I am sure it will work out in the long run.

Always preaching truth. He may need to be a field corner. And even then... I don't know. He just... isn't right. Last year he was fine.

Don’t want to put him to the field - he’s gonna be asked to play a ton of zone coverage there. You always want your best man guy to the boundary. To me it looks like he doesn’t have a wholistic understanding of the defense. Multiple times we were in 2 man today and he jump inside leverage quick on the receiver stem and then gets beat outside. Like dude… you got help inside and over top so stay your butt outside and underneath…

He was routinely targeted, routinely beat, and routinely frustrated.

Some fans thought he was a healthy scratch in previous games simply because Benford is better.

Yeah, Benford is better… but Elam is also a bad player.

They’re not mutually exclusive.

You act like you are the only bills fan with eyes

I just want to see him succeed. I want to believe. And I know I'm wrong. But damn it I want to be right.

Elam has the wheels... he's always right there when the receiver catches the ball.  I guess they thought they could coach him up?  Hopefully some experience and some of the vets can teach him a few things.  Who's out there that the Bills can get?  Do we need to hold open tryouts for DBs?

I’ve been a big Elam “hopeful”, but that was absolutely brutal today.

With these injuries piling up, I’m probably ok moving him for a mid-late pick - to gain back a pick we’ll inevitably have to trade to bring in an actual fit for our Defense.

Our DL, even without Daquan, has so much talent, but if they don’t get home, Elam might as well not even be on the field after that display I saw today.

They had him giving a cushion to Calvin Ridley

Nobody is covering Ridley when he's given a free start

He needs to play on a defense that allows him to play press man more often than not.

That’s clearly not us.

I also think you kind of have to give Elam a “break” on this game at least factoring in the circumstances to his performance. He was inactive the first four weeks and then gets thrusted into a starting role against a good WR in London a place he never played before. Oh and the opposition played in London the week before.

It’s understandable he had a bad game. I trust McD to coach him up and allow him the time to work out the kinks. I suspect how he looks the next two weeks will be how he is going to be this season.

I was going to ask you what you thought of our WR’s reaction to defensive leverage in this game. Sure seemed like from the broadcast that everyone outside of Diggs was in bad leverage situations and was part of the reason why the offense struggled in the first half.

We don’t do a great job of running routes in general, Diggs included at times. Forget leverage - we run routes like they’re drawn on a board. Very little stemming, leaning, jab steps, head fakes, etc.

I thought they picked on Jackson in the 1st half and Elam in the 2nd.

Regardless, we are hurting at Corner and Linebacker and our offense stunk up the United Kingdom. Our defense had only given up 11 through 3 quarters. They just ran out of gas late.

LB seemed fine.  Depth is an issue but Williams looked solid.  We need a CB in a trade

if they had him giving a cushion and his forte is press, that is on McD.

Did you see Williams and Bernard on J’ville’s last TD?

I like the optimism here, but have to disagree because McD had weeks to coach him up when he was inactive for games.

They were both swallowed.

However, I agree with you that CB is the focus here.
