The Coming End of Democracy - Coping Strategies

Recommended Posts

It seems likely that republicans will win control of Congress and democracy will come to an end on Tuesday. These are the same republicans that are going to take away your social security and Medicare, give all your money to rich people, end the planet with fossil fuel emissions, kill your children, kill all grandmothers not already killed by Cuomo during Covid, and though it has not been a featured talking point in this election cycle, want to poison your drinking water. Anyway, I’m wondering about how everyone plans to cope with this looming disaster. My plan is to carry on as normal and hold firm in the belief that once in power the republicans, like the current democrats, will overreach, get thrown out, and then we do it all again further down the road. Thoughts?

Like you I'll go about life just the same.  But the entire end of democracy narrative is absurd.  Citizens voting to express their displeasure with a sitting administration to elect opposition candidates is exactly what democracy is all about.  This is how our system is supposed to work.

What Biden with his vote for us or else fear mongering messaging and the Democrats are pissing and moaning about isn't an end of democracy but rather an end of their unchecked power derived from controlling both the executive and legislative branches of our government.  That's just simply the price to pay for doing such a poor job.

Anything to divert attention from Trump's looming indictment,

Should the house GOP just shut down the governmnet. Trump will probably order that it be done

Glad to hear that the D's were able to come out with a new fear message right before the midterms.  I guess the "Covid is going to kill everyone schtick" has gotten old and "Climate change is going to destroy the earth" hasn't progressed as quickly as they hoped.

At least the old ladies, unemployed, union and government workers have something to grasp onto when they vote party line again this year.

Interest Payments On The National Debt On Pace To Surpass Military Spending

The federal government surpassed $31 trillion in national debt last month after both Republican and Democratic administrations oversaw periods of increasing deficit spending. Although President Barack Obama maintained budget deficits as large as $1.4 trillion during his first term, President Donald Trump ran a deficit nearing $1 trillion in 2019, the year before the deficit more than tripled to $3.1 trillion as a result of lockdown stimulus spending, according to data from the Office of Management and Budget. President Joe Biden has since argued that the nominal reduction in the deficit to $1.4 trillion, which still exceeds all but one pre-lockdown deficit, under his watch is a major accomplishment of his administration.

China is loling.

Well seeing as they more than likely demanded the Trump raid to put him back at the head of the media & divert attention from the ignorant statements that are coming out of DC at this particular time seems to be great timing to hide any more things they will try to get past in the middle of the night before their seats are lost .

Touche .

Trump illegally possessed government documents, refused to return them, and then lied when he claimed to return them all. And still, the FBI search would likely have not been known if Trump himself hadn't blurted it out because he's a narcissist with the emotional temperance of a toddler.

If anyone other than the former president had done what he did, they'd already have been indicted.

But yes, carry on with your ignorance.

From what i understand that every president can take documents from their presidency but they had to be cleared prior to them taking them .

But it sounds like you are the all knowing when it comes to what Trump did prior to the raid almost like you were there so being as intelligent & all knowing as you are due to my unlikely ignorants will have to take you at your superior word & knowledge .

By the sounds of it though none of your opinion comes with any biased or hatred attached thank goodness for that ! So brilliant & no biased or hatred you must be a supreme being .

When the president leaves office, they lose possessory rights to government documents. The documents are sent to NARA for safe-keeping.

They may, however, retain access rights and can view the documents at a NARA facility. They may also negotiate with NARA to have documents moved to presidential museums and such.

A good example is that when Obama left office, his non-classified documents were transferred from DC to a NARA facility here in Chicago. He doesn’t have them in his possession, but they are nearby. He likely will negotiate to have some of them displayed in his presidential museum when it is finished. His classified documents remain in a NARA facility in DC.

And even if presidents can retain possessory rights to documents, at no point has Trump or his lawyers argued in the courts that they obtained NARA permission for him to retain possession of the documents.

This is about as slam-dunk as it gets.

Well it's very apparent that you know more about this law stuff than i do ! I take it you are in law of some sort or did attend some kind of law courses & i on the other hand have went to the school of hard knox & life lessons & only have common sense on my side .

Just to finish i feel that most lawyers especially those in DC are as crooked as they come & I don't trust any one in Washington if their mouths are moving it's usually a lie . Just look how they fabricated the Steel dossier & no one was held accountable for that .

Or most times they are stretching the truth in some way shape or form & if their speeches are written by lawyers that specifically are taught how to twist words in law to fit i still don't trust any of them but maybe that's just me .

But thank you for the explanation !!
