Jerry Hughes saying goodbye?

He was hurried. He was pressured. He was flushed out of the pocket. All these things can still result in a completed pass or even a td.  Sacks are all I care about.  I've yet to see a pass completed on a sack. Almost only counts in horseshoes.

Sorry bro, but that just makes your opinion less meaningful. Nothing else. Did Aaron Donald get a sack on the GW play in the super bowl?  But that doesn’t matter right?  Inconsequential I suppose.  Incomplete pass on a game winning non sack.  Mmhmmm.

I mean, so many bad thinks start to happen with pressure. Interceptions, incompletions, future disruptions just based on the perceived threat of pressure. Sacks can be all you care about, but it's just one of a lot of things that matter. I think you know as much.

Nothing like Teller trade.  It was player for a player.

I was hoping that there might be a way that he could come back & that they could get a SB win with him on the team the man has been a Bills most of his career & gave it all while he was on the team when ever he stepped on the field & will always be a Buffalo Bill to me .

Sometimes his passion got the best of him but hey he played every snap with passion & was a Bill through & through .

Thanks Jerry for all you have given to the Bills & all the memories you have given me as a fan much appreciated enjoy the time you now will have with your family Thanks again !! GO BILLS !!

He's not coming back. It makes no sense. He'd be coming back for pennies on the Dollar with his role as Starter and Leader of the Edge Rushers room replaced with Von Miller. His reps would be a third of what he had here his entire tenure (he'd surely get more opportunities almost anywhere else) and would keep younger players with high draft pick investments from getting more experience.

Doesn't make sense for the Bills, doesn't make sense for Jerry. Fans having a soft spot for him after all his years here and liking the idea of him being in the building if we won a Championship this year is no reason to sign someone. If Jerry were in the Bills plans this season, they'd have re-signed him early in FA. They wouldn't leave such a respected veteran twisting in the wind and then thrown a bone at the end of FA. And they probably wouldn't have brought back Shaq Lawson as the second or third situational pass rusher off the bench, which is all Jerry would be here at this point.

We’re trying to win a super bowl this year….. it makes sense for the Bills. jerry Hughes gives us a better chance of winning a super bowl than AJ epenesa, bookie Basham an Lawson do.  He’s better than all of them.

if winning the super bowl next season. Is the priority, it makes sense for the Bills.to sign Jerry and play him over the other 3 jags.

if the priority is to develop guys that were worse than Jerry and are worse than Jerry, so be it.  I’d cut Shaq and sign Jerry if the money was right.

For Jerry, it Doesn’t makes sense financially as another team may want to pay him more.   But can you put a price on winning the super bowl with the franchise you’ve bled blood sweat and tears for for a decade?  I’f someone offers Jerry 4M and the bills offer 2M, he’d enjoy his life much more coming back home.

but who knows how much he’s looking to make.  I don’t expect us to sign him……until it’s official, I will hold out hope that he returns.  He’s better than 3 (maybe 4) of our 5 DEs.

You're right, we are trying to win a Super Bowl. That's why we replaced him with Von Miller.

I think you're greatly overvaluing what Jerry Hughes brings to the table at 34 years old. If he were the difference maker you think he is, he wouldn't be on the market still. And it's laughable to say he's "maybe" better than Rousseau at this point in his career. All you have to do is look at Hughes stats last season v. Rousseau's in his first games in the NFL (with room to grow this season) to see that.

He is declining. Your opinions of Epenesa and Basham are irrelevant. We spent two 2nd Round picks getting them. One is entering his 2nd season in this league and the other his 3rd. You don't make the kind of investments we made in them and then give up on their development, in Basham's case after one season. You don't know what they could develop into.

If fans take their emotions out of it, look at how we've treated him this offseason, the things Jerry has posted, how he looked last season, how we addressed the position this offseason, and what he'd be being asked to do this year - the answer is obvious.

Which stats do you speak of?  Pass rush win rate?  Hurries?  Pff rating?  No?  Not those stats….. they don’t support your claim.  Rousseau is better vs the run.  Jerry is a better pass rusher.

Rousseau is still on the rise while Jerry is almost done.  This isn’t even part of the conversation.

Jerry being better than Epenesa, Basham and Shaq should be part of the conversation Beane is having with McD.  Between his pass rush abilities and his locker room presence….he brings MUCH more to the table than those 3 guys and would be an asset….regardless of what you are posturing. You know Jerry is better than all 3.

Sacks and Tackles. The stats that actually matter. I'm laughing at a .9 differential in PFF rate as an argument point. Hurries and Win Rate are great, but not when you can't get the sack which has been the story of Hughes for the past couple years now. It's why we've been drafting Ends and ultimately decided to bring in a guy like Von Miller.

I'm not "posturing" anything. I DON'T know that 34 year old Hughes can be better than what Basham or Epenesa can be this season. And you don't know that either. They're 23 and 24 respectively. We've seen two full seasons of Epenesa. Guys can be late bloomers. You know who was a late bloomer? Jerry Hughes.

Basham has a total of 8 games under his belt. You're ready to say you know who someone is and can be after 8 games? C'mon dude.

We spent back to back 2nd Round picks on these guys. At the very least, we have to let them get rotational work and experience to see what they can or cannot become. You don't invest what we've invested in them and not use them or allow them to get experience as rotational pieces.

I agree with this for the most part although Jerry may have two or three good seasons in him given pass rushers age well.  I'd much rather role with Miller, Hughes, and Rousseau.  Then let Basham, Epenesa, and Shaq battle for that fourth spot.  If they can make it work contract wise that is.

I’d be willing to bet Beane offered Jerry a vet minimum deal (or close) and told him to come back if he couldn’t find better on the market.

Considering the addition of Von Miller as a slam dunk improvement at starting DE, first string IOL, 1-Tech DT, CB2 and on a lesser scale TE2 and RB are the positions where we need better play to win a championship. If we do not make significant progress there, what happens at third string DE will be mostly irrelevant. In that context, whether they bring back Hughes or not makes no real difference. The guy can't finish, so even as a pass rush specialist at this point of his career he is (by some) vastly overrated. I sure hope no one is hoping to bring him back and start him.
