My Suprise cut... Matt Brieda

In shorts and shells Brieda is great.  Put on pads, slop up some lanes and he is not as good.  On paper he is the fastest rb.  Unless you scheme up the perfect play I dont see it.  San Fran and Miami both run heavy teams moved on.  Call me crazy but if Williams comes back before game 3 cut Brieda and keep Williams.

I strongly disagree.
You are looking at his value all wrong.
When our starting offense is out there, and we run 4 receiver sets or 3 receiver and tight end, Breida is a huge mismatch out there, a 5 yard swing pass or checkdown can be a homerun.  Our offense spreads out a ton. We are not doing that in preseason. If you want Breida to run 15-20 times a game and grind out some yards he’s not the one. But isn’t that what motor and moss are for? Breida in an ideal setup is getting 15 maybe 20 snaps and 4-5 touches. Change of pace. Homerun potential.
Nobody else on this offense is a bigger threat to make a cut and be gone.

I understand change of pace.  4x1 Brieda aint blocking your mother.  For those to 4-5 touches to work he needs to slide into the offense and add some more.  I dont think he can protect Josh.  I dont think him being on the field suprises anyone and that makes him less effective.

In this offense and Allen’s mid to deep level the flat will always be open. You don’t need Brieda to block. We run empty plenty. Motion him out and boom he’s got a linebacker or safety on him. With our weapons it’s easy money.

Maybe but to me more likley defenses make him block or free rusher at Allen.

He's out there playing with the 2nd and 3rd string for the most part so hard to gauge.  I agree he's been less than expected, but not sure they'd want to go with such an inexperienced backup in Williams if one of the main two were to get hurt.  I'm also not even sure we'll deviate from the past two seasons game plans and make him active on game days.

That will probably end terribly for said defense lol.
That means you’re playing one on one with some pretty great receivers or leaving Breida uncovered.

With Moss and Singeltary spliting carries not alot left.  I do not care what the 40 times were.  In 2021 in pads with a football in thier hands Brieda may be faster but he is not quicker than Singletary.

Considering the depth & strength we have at other positions (as well as planning for next yr) & that we likely won't be a RB/running-centric offense, I see us not carrying too many RBs on the roster.  Considering that they're now apparently have Gilliam to be use in an "emergency" situation, I can see it quite possible that we only carry 3 RBs.  Singletary (who looks far better than last yr), Moss, & ...?

Granted Brieda looks fast, but does he really offer that much else?  I think it depends how much he'll contribute on STs.

I think McKenzie takes the “scat back” type of role, he’s just as fast and more versatile, already has value as a WR and returner, he’s not going to take traditional runs, but I don’t see Breida doing it either.  Use him like Tyreek Hill and forget about a one dimensional back.

I'm not an administrator, but this strikes me as a misleading thread title.  All you needed to do was say something like "My Choice for a Surprise Cut."  As it is worded, I didn't know if I was going to find an opinion, a prediction or a news flash.

Totally agree - the only thing I would say is cut down the snaps - I think 8-12 snaps and about 3-4 touches a game.

I think he is a between the 30’s back and in specific drives where you want to challenge the edge or force the defense to adjust.

The thing about pre-season is you are not running designed plays for people - so the Bills have not used him the way they will during the season - to attack the edge.

Yeah in Miami last year and so far in preseason he’s being used as a traditional running back. Not his specialty at all.
I hate to say it but he’s a Chan Gailey water bug CJ Spiller in space kinda guy. ( I might of 🤮 a little typing that)

It is interesting- Sal has talked about this and thinks they may adjust active RBs and gameplans based on specific teams to attack weaknesses.

If a team lacks LB speed - us Brieda more.  Smaller faster team - use Moss to wear them down.

This could be a fascinating year.

Also depends upon Jones making the roster or not.
