I’ve never been convinced of the whole Korean testing story. How did they have tests for a disease no one had ever tested for before?

They had cases earlier than anyone else other than China. Being China's neighbor they expect this kindofshit. To compare our response to that of South Korea would presume that we are at the same stage as they are.

This is incorrect.

South Korea did minimal social distancing.

They did extensive trace testing (they did 200k tests in the time the US did 1k) and they identified who had the virus and then they quarantined them.

There are two ways to contain this.

1. Lock everything down, extreme social distancing.

2. Massive testing

South Korea took door #2.

Cuomo wasn't getting a daily briefings from the CDC on the COVID-19 outbreak in December and January.

There's supposed to be a reason these things are centrally directed by the Federal Government.

Imagine if another country attacked the USA, would it fall on the Governors to organize the military defense?

Of course not!!!

Stop, you’re embarrassing yourself.  New Rochelle was locked down in early March.  When was the city a few miles away with 9,000,000 inhabitants living in exceptionally close proximity to one another, where people thrive on a mass transit system that accelerated the transmission of the virus shut down?  I’ll wait while you look it up.

By the way, Cuomo has overseen the designation of NYS as a sanctuary state in  violation of federal law.  When the tax laws changed, he actively sought out schemes to bypass the regulations as it related to SALT deductions, in a gambit that likely would have landed ordinary Americans in hot water with the tax man.  He’s made a mess of the NYS REAL ID/enhanced license because of his decision to disregard federal guidelines for issuance of drivers licenses.  He’s threatened to interfere with lawful enforcement of immigrations and customs agents, again defying the feds and sending a big FU to Washington.

Suddenly though, on testing, he’s a $#@&ing Boy Scout?  Or...is he just an exceptionally weak leader?

Stop, you’re embarrassing yourself. (It needed to be said twice)

If we were Haiti, we should have used all of our economic might. Where we rank is irrelevant, but then you know that. We could have used The test from the WHO, Germany, or South Korea.

Just fkn around w/ the ranking bit.

The part I'm curious about is specifically what we could have done differently, because I really don't know.

It sounds easy to say just push production, but I don't know to what extent that's even possible. Even throwing everything into it, what facilities exist that can pump these out, what's the maximum capacity, and how quickly can we increase production?

I doubt it's as simple as the President telling his people to get it done, but I don't really know.

JRober has all the answers, but for some reason he's holding out on us.

Peoples lives are more important.

The economy will eventually recover.

Once you're dead, you're dead.

Again, this virus doesn’t kill everyone that gets it. Not even close. The economy may not recover anytime soon as it is. Locking down since January would have been a complete catastrophe. Any speculation on what could have been done is simply speculation. We are a free country and what you are describing is unrealistic in America.

I think Trump will survive because the alternative will prove to be inept.  Seems like the Canadians are still happy with Trudeau.

The European leaders will be a mess though.  In Italy, the government isn't helping the people much.

Agreed.

Biden is completely useless. Regardless of what the polls say I can't see him winning unless this completely spirals out of control and 250,000 people are dead by November and the economy is in a depression.

Trudeau benefits from the Trump circus. No one is paying attention to what he's doing, which hasn't been much.

As long as humans live there will be an economy. Might not be the same one we had, and for a lot of people that would be preferable

It won’t be nearly the same. For most people that will not be a good thing at all.

So you are ok with it killing the ones that are at risk because that is a lot. The economy will bounce back, grandma won’t.

I’m starting to think jrobs is Chris Cuomo, he’s carrying so much water for the gov he has to be related.

No, I wouldn’t describe myself that way at all.  However, it’s not the most important issue to me. I’ve voted for Reagan, George HW Bush, Clinton twice. (Bill) .Did not vote for Obama or Hillary. The social issues haven’t been such a big deal for me personally. I think the left has gotten out of control since the millennium.

The vulnerable can isolate. There are things that can be done. Not “ ok “ with any virus killing people but it happens . The economy won’t magically bounce back in short order whenever it opens back up. The longer it’s closed down, the worse it will be. It’s not a great choice here, but that’s where we are. It’s a war. In past wars , the  few ( still a lot) made the ultimate sacrifice for the good of the many. Now, there’s a mentality that most should sacrifice all for the good of the few. I just cannot agree with that.

The Federal Government sat around and did nothing for 6 weeks after health officials raised the alarm in late January.

Wrong as usual.

1/30 announcement of CV task force.  And the task force was not the beginning of Fed gov activity on the Virus.

And then Trump proceeds to tell the country “we got this *****.” Zero cases in a few days! Nice work!
