Just citing a WHO report , no panic

It seemed like you were talking about fearing for the food supply and that you thought people were getting reinfected like they were before. But good that you’re being rational.

This is an interesting idea. I have no idea how it would actually work, but it looks like they are actually trying the light thing.

That’s impossible! Trump mentioned it so it has to be wrong. It just has to be!

How come nobody is bringing up Dr Birx interview with ABC, where she basically admitted that Trump tried to parrot what he heard the experts discuss, but as usual he flubbed it?

She didn't not categorically deny that he was totally off base in his comments.

He's seldom totally off base. Sometimes the delivery is a little (or a lot) muddled.

I think Dr. Birx does not always know all the testing going on behind the scenes. How could she? The numbers are staggering on what is being tested and developed.  No one person could be expected to know everything.

Because it would require them to admit they are wrong and pushing a false narrative. That would also require adult and mature behavior which is in very short supply here.

He's been listing the countries the US will be sending ventilators to. Today, Ethiopia. Apparently, the numbers in Africa have been going up dramatically.

Wait. I was certain tens of thousands were going to die in the US due to the lack of ventilators. What happened??

She was likely in the prep sessions where some of the innovative treatments were discussed.

But Trump being Trump, took it to another level.

BREAKING NEWS: NYS decided that 4400 of them from the feds was actually sufficient enough for them to lend some to other states. In a press briefing at 2:00 am today Andrew Cuomo admitted that he mistakenly said 40,000 were needed rather than 4,000. When questioned further, all he could say was "oops". Now that the U.S. has narrowed down the need for ventilators, they realize that ordering 110,000 more on a rush basis may have been a wee bit premature. Plans for a Going Out of Business Sale is scheduled for the Fall of 2020 where the state of the art ventilators are expected to go for pennies on the dollar. Andrew further noted that he saw no need to stockpile some in case of future pandemics because it was just "easier to ration their use".

COURAGE? IT’S IN SHORT SUPPLY

Will our elected officials ever have the courage to talk honestly about COVID-19? That is the question asked by a reader who despairs over the countless millions of lives being devastated by governments’ shutdown orders:

Here’s one of the crazier features of “expert guidance” as governors try to lay out criteria for reopening their states. With the exception of the Deep South governors (who are taking variable stances), it seems that most governors want to see declining counts of positive cases in the state.

But everywhere we have tested a whole population (a ship at sea, all the women coming in for delivery in NYC, everyone in a Boston homeless shelter), the finding is that a majority (often a large majority) of infected people are asymptomatic.

Aren’t “experts” aware of this characteristic of the disease? It has been widely reported for weeks!

What this means is that confirmed cases is hugely problematic as an indicator – it just can’t tell us much about how or where the disease is spreading. If we do more tests, we’ll find more positive cases. We started out only testing the most severe cases and ones with ties to Chinese travel. Now tests are more plentiful, so more people with mild symptoms are being identified as positive. But even if we are picking up modestly more of the symptomatic cases, we’re still missing the asymptomatic cases. Given how many people have mild or no symptoms, that’s most of the cases!

Case counts just don’t provide meaningful epidemiological information under these conditions. Why can’t experts seem to see this?

Whoever was doing the modeling was way off for the US . The shutdown brought the projections way down , that is good.
