Summer Vacation...where are you planning on going?

Recommended Posts

We're going to Punta Cana in the Dominican Republic the second week in June. It's an all-inclusive--There are no hidden fees, and included is the air, hotel, food, alcohol, tips, transfers, taxes and insurance. Nothing left to buy. Alcohol is included. Another wonderful place to go is the Riviera Maya, south of Cancun. Beautiful properties. And --did I mention?--alcohol is included.

We are going on Sabbatical this summer. One of the nice benefits of my job.... every 7 years you get an 8 week paid sabbatical, which can be combined with your regular vacation. We're tacking one week on the end. And we're doing a huge loop around the country, including stops at the Grand Canyon, San Antonio Texas, Florida, NC, Williamsburg Va., Washington DC, almost three weeks in Buffalo in July/August, Mount Rushmore, Yellowstone and Glacier natl park. T minus 80 days and counting!!!!:):):o

2 questions:

1. Where do you work?

2. They hiring? :o

This summer will be low-key for us, we're planning on heading down to the Outer Banks (Ocracoke Island).

About mid-June, we'll head out to camp and pound margaritas while floating/boating on the river until early July.

Then we're heading down to the Smokies in TN/NC where I'll switch to Ginger and Windsor's for a couple weeks in mid-July.

Then in August we're heading over to Hawaii so I can spend some time climbing on volcanoes and hiking in verdant valleys.

Then I'll head back out to camp, tie some 8lb test to my big toe and lounge on the dock and rest my bones along the quiet of the river 'til football practice starts.

Then I'll go get the hell beat out of me every few days for the next 3 months.

Ahhhhhh, the life of a Western Pennsyltucky country boy.....

Why go on vacation in the summer?

I agree. We go south in the winter. Makes it a bit more bearable. And allows me to appreciate snow.

Anyway, we're taking a week off and just staying home. During that time I hope to:

1. Fly my RC airplanes

2. Play golf all the time.

3. Garden.

Between mid June and early July, they'll literally be about 15-20 good kids and 10-12 fine fun folks running all over the place every day from sunrise 'til godknowswhen.

So if you've got a truck, I've got directions brutha' :)

P.S. Click on my username; I put a pic of part of the back yard of camp (near the 'shoe pits) in my personal photo. The river is a quiet stretch of the Alleghany about 30yrds on the other side of the structure in the pic (Building #2 of 3). The guy with the beer truck is somebody's husband who sometimes makes the mistake of bringing the truck down and opening the back doors.

My wife and I are going to southern France for a week and a half, checking out the Provence region mainly. For the last four days we'll be meeting up with two other couples, who are some of our closest friends, and will be sharing a house in a medieval city.

Anyone have any suggestions for things to check out? I've never been to Europe and am very excited.

We leave in three weeks. Okay, does that mean it doesn't qualify as a summer vacation?

One week at my condo in Waikiki, Hawaii at end of summer.

Two weeks with my wife's family in Hong Kong afterwards.

I get tickets for $1100 and change each which is less than some pay just to fly to Hong Kong during summer.

Now, that's my idea of a vacation...

As for myself, hopefully I'll get away for a few days and fly fish the beautiful San Juan river in New Mexico and the Animas river in Colorado....Always a great brain dump.

I have also strategically tucked away a few days for a Bills road game...hopefully, San Diego and a reunion with Bob Lamb, Bill and Mrs. Bill in Livonia and the rest of the good folks that attended the last game there.

And, Simon...If you are fishin' with eight pound (mono) test tied to your toe, for anything other than sunnies, bluegill, or perch you gonna be walkin' funny.

Aruba!  Anyone been there?

298115[/snapback]

Aruba - Usually perfect weather, nice people, good eats, sometimes windy. Rent a jeep and drive around the island.

I'm heading back to Tortola in the BVIs to hop on a friend's sailing charter and do some sailing, scuba diving, beer drinking.

Dude...love the Outer Banks! Have vacationed many times in Kill Devil Hills/Kitty Hawk. Love that area down there, though the beaches have been beat up pretty bad over the years by all the storms.
