Disney streaming service comes November 12th... what are you looking forward to?

Recommended Posts

Personally, Tom Hiddleston's Loki is one of my favorite MCU characters in the last decade, so wife and I can't wait for that.

Also really looking forward to the Rogue One spinoff with The Mandalorian.

I hope they get even wider releases with the recent acquisition of Fox, too. I know The Simpson's will now be part of the service.

Rumor has it the price point will be reasonable, 6 or 7 bucks as opposed to 15-20? I have kids and we pretty much love a lot of Disney.

They're saying $6.99 at least initially. That absolutely won't last, but that's super cheap for what looks to be at least a handful of potential blockbuster shows.

I’m curious if Disney will pull all of its proprietary content from all of the other streaming platforms out there like Hulu, Netflix, Amazon and the like? I also have DirectTV Now, and the Disney Jr channel has “free” on demand content there, and the Disney app also has free content that unlocks with use of the driectTV Now login...wonder how all of that will be changing

Disney is the majority owner of Hulu, so they will decide what content will go on that platform.  I expect it will be the more adult-skewing stuff, including many of the newly acquired Fox properties. The current contract with Netflix expires this year. Disney will pull all of its content from Netflix. The announcement of the end of their agreement already happened last year.

I think Hulu is owned at least partially by Disney, so they might set up a bundle.

7 dollars is genius.

Its a price point that is almost a no brainer for most people.  Slowly increase it.  Profits

Not good news for Netflix as they just increased their standard price to $13/month to help pay down some of its debt.  I can see a lot of parents switching from Netflix to Disney plus.

That's not the Rogue One spin-off. The Mandalorian is its own story set about 5-10 years after The Last Jedi. It'll be like a space western.

The Rogue One spin-off is a spy series centered around Cassian and K2-SO.

I'm much more interested in The Mandalorian, but I'll give the other a shot, of course.

I read that Disney+ will offer a year subscription for $70. That's $5.83/month.

Oh my bad!!!

Wait... so you're telling me that on the new streaming service there are already apparently 2 live action Star Wars series (Mandalorian and the spinoff with Cassian, which I was initially interested in because I loved Rogue One) and 4 live action Marvel series (Scarlet Witch with Vision, Loki prequel, The Falcon and Winter Soldier, and a Hawkeye series... all with the original actors from the MCU movies) that are confirmed and people are questioning this service and price???

Not sure, but wonder how it’ll effect Netflix as Disney pulls its titles away. Free to Air in Australia is still a big deal. I can’t recall the last time I watched regular TV. But watching Netflix less too. So it’ll end up being m’eh. Foxtel- cable is too $ to be worth it unless you buy sports or a nuts on the Kardashian’s.

Yes...

What are people questioning? All I've heard is positive anticipation for the service itself.

Really?

You hate Marvel?

You hate Star Wars?

You hate Disney?

I will second Boca Bills' "nothing" comment.  I have had simple guidelines for movies for the last decode or so.  1.  Has to be rated R.  2. Can not be a remake, sequel, reimagining, etc....  I need new ideas.  3.  No super hero movies.

These 3 general rules eliminate almost all Disney/Marvel/Star Wars movies.

No before I get roasted, I will admit there are some exceptions to these rules.  (For Example, GodFather 2)  And there are movies I am nostalgic for because I watched them when I was younger.  However, the movies I enjoy these days are adult movies with new ideas and stories.

I'm guessing you haven't watched much or any movies in the last decade or so, then.

Movies that are purely new ideas?

Name 10 great movies in the last 50 years that meet your criteria--which as you know eliminates all of the Mario Puzo based Godfather films.

As if everything hasn't been done already....

The space western genre could be something new for Hollywood to explore...

I recently watched Prospect, which I thought was good. Stars Pedro Pascal of GoT, Narcos, and now Mandalorian fame.

If you wanna watch the movie, don't watch that full trailer. It shows way too much.

Not trying to get in a battle here.  Just telling you the movies I enjoy.  Some examples in recent years without thinking too much.  There Will be Blood, 12 Monkeys, No Country for Old Men, Children of Men, Seven, Any Tarentino films, Saving Private Ryan....

Your definition of "recent years" is very interesting.  Earlier you said movies from the last decade or so and then included Godfather 2 (1974).  Now you've just included 2007, 1995, 2007 again, 2006, 1995 again, a wide widow for Tarantino, and 1998 all as recent.  I'm also not trying to pick a fight here, but I find it interesting.  I think all to often we think of a movie as recent only to realize that it came out longer ago than we realize.  Nothing on your list outside of the most recent Tarantino stuff is younger than 10 years.

About 20 years ago we were at Disneyland when the ride Splash Mountain was new.  It had an easy 2hr line to get to the ride.  I asked my wife, how many people here in line have any idea the theme of this ride?  No way to answer that, BUT!!!!!  Zipaadeedooah!

The way things are nowadays, Disney has probably found a way to display and monetize ‘Flash Mountain’.  No, that is not a typo.

Yeah maybe my first post was a little unclear.  I should have said in the last couple decades or since I was out of college.  All good either way.

Despite my lack of care for Disney and affiliated productions, I will probably end up subscribing due to the GF.

You're right!  They take your picture, when your log/boat comes down that last big hill.  It got the name Flash Mountain because many of the women used to raise their tops for the picture.  I, on the other hand, had both hands locked around whatever bar device was there.

If Crystal Beach had that, maybe they'd still be there?

TWSS...

Having grown up in Buffalo, during the 50's, I always looked forward to watching Disneyland.  Always thought no way I'd ever get there.  Well I made it in 1970, and it was everything that I had imagined!  Beautiful, clean, nice people etc.  Last time there was late 90's, and the neighborhood had obviously changed, and not for the better!  Now California seems to have declined further!

Just proves the vision of Walt Disney.  He owns so much land in Florida, that there will never be any deteriorating neighborhoods to deal with.
