McBeanes is setting a trend about smart flexible players. Players who know what the rest of the team is doing and why. There's no way a former offensive tackle is going to be able to run fast enough to gain separation as a receiver. Oh, you mean a WR to TE conversion. I don't know that I agree. I have no problem with Croom. He's not a great blocker, but he's improved on it. Looking ahead, Buffalo is going into the season with two tight ends that are good at catching the ball in Kroft and Croom. Kroft is also a solid blocker. If they sign Fisher, he'll almost certainly be more of a blocking tight end than a pass catcher. That would give them the ability to line up with two strong blockers at TE or two strong pass catchers. I think they will add a TE in the draft too. I don't think it will be Hockenson or Fant. I'm hoping for Josh Oliver. He's a pretty good receiver with a lot of athleticism, even though he's still raw. Moreover he's a decent blocker, though he's got room for improvement there too. I think it's myth making to ascribe some sort of "type" to McBeane alone. Every GM/HC feels he has some sort of method or type. Then they play the games and we can all see if this is true or not. Lets see how the Draft goes and then what they field come preseason to season season : ) Beanes has shown conservative and aggressive behaviour. If they sign him, he'd be 3. At most they'd be drafting one, and then signing another one, or two if they don't sign him. Star tight end and all state de in high school Traverse City MI, in the same year. Agile and athletic for his size. Versatility. Not advocating for or against, I have no idea if he is athletic or talented enough to reinvent himself or what his role would be. Goal line and short yardage options come to mind.
