Burns is another guy you could basically line up all over.  Such a fluid athlete.

I think he's basically unblockable from a wide-nine like position.  So much speed and bend off the edge.  And moves on top of moves.  A refined rusher.

I think Burns has been the most impressive DL at this thing and yes that includes Sweat. You can just see his natural athleticism. He is now up to 249 and it hasn't affected him at all. He also has elite college tape unlike Sweat. I would consider him at 9 as well. I want elite traits and elite tape.

He’s having a Manny Lawson combine. I could see them grabbing him as a replacement for Alexander.

At 9 would be crazy. Sweat can play but he’s not the guy everyone thinks he is. I went to the Senior Bowl and watched him first hand. He’s fast off the edge yes, but his lower body lacks the strength, he’s all upper body. He’s got long arms but so does every NFL Tackle. Risner battled him and got the best of him 9 out of 10 times.

Yes his 40 time is impressive, yes he’s fast. But I think he’ll be a liability in the run game and is only a 1 trick pony with a speed rush.

I'm surprised there aren't more mocks that give us Burns. He fills a need and fits what we're trying to build. Haven't seen a ton of talk about him though.

I could see even Sam LB but I think that negates his biggest strength which is rushing the passer.

Before the LB's get started, one of my favorite LB's in this Draft is Terrill Hanks from New Mexico State. Former Safety conversion to LB. Fits McDermotts scheme really well. Dont Disappoint me Hanks sticking my neck out here.

Looking to me like the top 4 could look a lot like:

Murray

Q Williams

Bosa

DK

He was invisible for a number of games.

It's hardly a crazy opinion.

And go watch the game and you will see what happened.  I’ll give you a hint:  it wasn’t the receiving corps

That's not much of an endorsement, considering in Lawson's best year, he had 6 sacks.

I think Sweat will be better, he looks stronger. You can see the pop he has in some of his hits on an OT. He's got a long body and has the ability to add some bulk.

But....idk, he was beating people in the Senior Bowl practices (except Dillard), but when he was going against the better OT's of the North, he didn't do much. He knifed through on a few running plays, but was pretty invisible on pass plays.

Beating up on lesser competition is one thing, but facing quality OL on a regular basis is another.

I just don't see him as a "can't miss" guy and not as a "we'd be crazy to pass on this guy".

I think he’ll be a steady player at worst... a la M Lawson or Barr. I don’t think he’s a can’t miss probowler though. If he was we’d be talking about him usurping Bosa instead of sneaking into the top 10. That said, his combine confirmed his production: 2 years of 8+ sacks and 14+ TFL’s in the SEC. He could live up to that potential if he improves his rush moves. Plus he seems to play contain first, and IDK if that’s him or coaching.

I’m not sure if Beane will gamble on the kid. He did get booted from Michigan State and had to work his way back from Juco. He seems to have taken that setback seriously and matured. I wouldn’t be disappointed with him at 9, but I’m not going to ? either. I’d probably react similar to drafting J Allen... “okay. Let’s see how it turns out”.

I agree. He’s gotta more twitch than Sweat. Shows more athleticism. I’d like to see him between 255-260.

i want to see his 3 cone vs Sweats.... broad jump as well.  I don’t put that much into the combine. Just curious.

If I had to guess I’d say, 3 cone Burns 7.0 - 7.10. Sweat 7.10- 7.20

Broad Jump Burns 120”+, Sweat 105-115.

Ah, so I should count you among the "if you don't think he's Julio then you can't have watched him" crowd?

C'mon man; you know me better than that by now

That 3 cone is more than concerning, shocking actually, after his earlier results. For those going on about “the next Julio” it should give them pause when you see Metcalf’s time in the 3cone agility drill was ove a full second slower. Straight line explosiveness is just not as critical as agility in wideouts.

That lack of ability or stiffness to make cuts may have more to do with the lack of route variety coaches had Mecalf run at Ol Miss than anything else. Maybe why they leaned more on those go, slat, and post routes I have seen on his highlight plays where he could leverage his straight-line speed. Also with the number of plays where defenses probably had a safety over the top, that could explain the lower number of opportunities he had over the course of his college season.

I did not follow Ol' Miss games so I could not say for sure, so perhaps someone that followed more closely could weigh in. Was just thinking about the Ol' Miss QB and  most college QBs will go somewhere other than where they see safety help over top. Unless they really trust their arm to thread a pass into double coverage...

Before the Metcalf fans freak out, I am not saying he is not a good prospect, just that a dose of sanity may have been needed to offset the strength and 40 hype - all prospects come with some things they need to work on... depends if teams feel those areas are big concerns or little ones that can be coached up.

Which is why I compared him to Lawson who went around pick 20 despite a freakish combine instead of Clowney.
