He's lost that quick step.  No more more shake & bake from his hips and feet.  It happens to all great running backs.  Do the coaches see it?

Another stellar thread from you. Honestly I had thought (hoped?) you were suspended.

did you see the run blocking today? Did you notice who we happened to be playing? Did you catch the jets game 2 weeks ago?

I do think he's lost a step. Most of his problems have been a function of this incompetent (but improving!) offense, but even with those problems, in past years he probably would have broken at least a couple 40+ yard runs. Those aren't coming this year. His longest run this year? 28 yards. In his previous Bills years:  48, 75, 48.

I'm not sure how much of a step he has or hasn't lost...but he either did lose a step or he isn't the best back for this offense (Ivory might be better)

On some of the 3-6 yard runs McCoy has had the last few weeks...he gets through a hole in the line and then when he gets in front of the tackler...say 5 yards away..he does a little dance and then gets tackled and goes down.  If that same hole is there...Ivory hits the hole...gets to that same 5 yard distance when approaching the tackler...and runs into him full speed and gets brought down after falling forward for an extra yard or two.

He seemed to lose his suddenness.  Seems from point A to B hes as quick as ever.  That hop step and start stop has faded.  Gotta find some one give all that money to, I trade McCoy for a mid rd pick and back brinks up to Bell for 3 years.  Bell looks like the best skill player available.

Ivory is a power back.

Lesean is a finesse back. He will never just try to truck a guy in the open field

Lesean wouldn’t have played a decade in the league if he did

Too much dancing all around.  Love Shady but he reminds me of CJ Spiller more every game.

Of course. He is still a freak, having a down year

we can’t run block to save our life... but the pass protection has been decent

Ivory will just put his head down and hit the hole that is barely there, or create one... and that is valuable.. and you need a guy like that

but they aren’t sustainable for a full 16 game nfl season consistently ... We are really missing Wood and Incognito in the run game

I don't think McCoy is finished by any stretch of imagination. But he is 30, he is having his worst statistical year (of course, on what was almost a historically inept offense until the last couple games), and he hasn't broken any long runs through 11 games of this season. He is ready to phase into a more specialist role rather than an every down back.

He has plenty of gas left in the tank.. atleast enough To have another 1000 yard year next year

we don’t have the hogs up front. Football at its most FUNDAMENTAL ELEMENTS can be broken down to BLOCKING and TACKLING

we have struggled in the run blocking part this year

Get another lineman or 2 and Shady will still have a good year next year.. he needs holes

I don't doubt he still has the talent to bounce back next year. My comment was more nuanced - (1) the Bills brass should realize that a running back on the wrong side of 30 has almost by definition lost a little something in elusiveness and/or durability; (2) but if used correctly (and I think that means a lot more in the passing game, getting the ball in space) and with somewhat better personnel around him, he will still be a very valuable player.
