I vaguely recall a time when people were polite. People used these things called headphones.  Nowadays everyone blasts music and video from their phones as if they are the only people walking around in public.

Music?  I was in an airport a few years ago and there was a couple watching home made porn on one of their phones

Really?  I rarely see/hear that. My experience is everyone uses headphone/earbuds.

Must be a NE transplant teacher.  When I worked in NC it was odd to hear a child not refer to me as sir.  That’s just the south.

True that.

Sir and ma’am.

Yankee ladies think ma’am is a reference to old ladies and take some offense.

Maybe @The Poojer can chime in because I know he’s been doing some hikes lately, but the last few that I’ve been out, I’ve come across people that have their music playing, no headphones. Not loud enough to be disturbing, but loud enough I could hear them before I saw them.

The noise lets the bears know where they are.

Music soothes hes the savage beast. Unless they’re crappy songs

That's a crappy little article.  It mentions the meeting, and the fact that the mother asked the teacher why she was upset with the use of the word "ma'am" but it doesn't mention her response, which is the only thing interesting about this story.

Why did this upset her and how did she interpret the word to be disrespectful?

Article doesn't say.

North Carolina.

Well I can tell you right now no woman likes being called ma’am... that makes them feel old

if you are gonna use the word you need to call them MISS

no woman will ever take offense to MISS as it makes them feel young
