If the Draft goes badly, you have your scapegoat

Recommended Posts

Donahoe was doomed by the Losman pick, Whaley was doomed by the Manuel pick, but I think this regime has a longer leash. They are the ones who were part of ending the drought. Things would have to take a serious downturn around here for them to be ousted within the next 4 years. That being said, they NEED to hit on a QB. Brandon isn't a scapegoat, he's a salesman. It's his job to sell whatever product we put on the field and you have to admit he's been damn good at it. Any power he may have had was buried with Ralph imo.

The NFL sells itself. How hard is it to sell Bills fans...put a decent team on the field and the stadium is sold out. In your scenario he's doing a terrible job selling the Sabres...they stink and no one is showing up....you have a good team, ticket sales will follow...

Jackson at 12 is not a reach. Bills need players and have 6 picks in top 100.

Their 9-7 record last year was an anomaly. They won't be close to that this year.

The cap space they have going into the 2019 season will improve this team greatly.

IF Beane trades the farm to move up to #2 and has his CHOICE of QBs, his neck is on the chopping block immediately.  (He had better make the RIGHT choice)

IF (for what ever reason) Beane can only get a later pick, say 5 or 12, and the QB choices are already picked over, Beane has a little wiggle room (time) to redeem himself.

Unfortunately, McCoach & Beane are on very short tethers due to the short fuses left over from 17 years of disappointment.

IMHO

I don't really follow hockey so I can't speak as to the job he has done there. With the Bills he has been $$$ in his marketing. We have had decent teams at times, but he has sold us the dream and the stadium has always had solid attendance from what I can gather. Also, from reading the messages on here, it doesn't seem like season ticket sales are hurting in the slightest. This was even before the ending of the drought last year.

I still think the fact that these guys came in, gutted a roster, and still made the playoffs for the first time in 17 years gives them at least 3 more years.

That's my point...the Bills would sell tickets whether he was president or not....I have nothing against him....just don't get how people say he's doing such a great job. Pro sports teams in Buffalo don't need much marketing....put out a winning team...that's all that's needed

THAT IS THE POINT -  Seventeen years = NO WINNING TEAM !!!!

Russ Brandon managed to fill the seats year after year WITHOUT a winning team!

That is why I refer to him as "The Fan Whisperer". No business owner in their right mind would remove a Marketing person who could sell snow to Eskimos.

You or I may not like him but Ru$$ Brandon = $$$$$$

I know this thread was made as fun but count me as a guy who hopes the Pegula’s are letting Beane and the football guys make the football decisions.

They need to have the freedom to follow their plan whatever it may be.  People here need to brace themselves in terms of that and realize that Beane is NOT going to be fired because he did or did not draft a given prospect.  The way people carry on here I have to wonder how mentally stable some posters are.

Russ Brandon filled the seats? People bought tickets because of Brandon? There are season ticket holders from '60s and '70s who never heard of him.  People don't buy tickets because of his marketing. They buy tickets because they love football and the Bills
