Post June 1st cut saves them 17 million. Miami is my dark horse to be in on Cousins. They don't have space but can create a ton easily.

The post June 1st savings do not kick in until June 1st though - so essentially you cut him, but his entire Cap hit is on you roster until June first - meaning they save nothing and still need to get under the cap.

I believe Landry also signed his tender meaning that they can no longer rescind that to get cap relief.  They either need to trade him and they now have lost all leverage or sign a long term extension, but even that hurts the cap this year.

They may want to be in on Cousins, but there is almost no way without cutting a ton of other players and then they are not going to be as good so why would Cousins choose them.  They are in a no win situation at the moment.

Ah that’s right. Now they need to either trade him or work out an extension or they are locked in at that amount.

Yep - this is exactly what I thought - no relief with a June 1st designation and Landry signing really hurt their flexibility.

There is probably one team that could help them out if they really wanted to go after Cousins or to get under the cap and that is Cleveland.  Similar to the Osweiler deal last year - they could work out a deal to take these big contracts off the Dolphins hands and get compensation rather than give up something, but the new GM is an NFL guy and not a money baller like the previous 2 years.

I do not see any true NFL GMs using this approach, but it was how the Browns utilized a different approach under Sashi last year.

...not smart to get in the Big Dawg's outhouse......then again, it's Suh.....

CBS Sports' Jason La Canfora reports "confidants of [Dolphins owner] Stephen Ross" informed him that Ross "was ready to move on" from DT Ndamukong Suh.

Suh is heading into the fourth year of a six-year, $114 million mega-deal and is set to count a whopping $26.1 million against the Dolphins' salary cap. That's almost $9 million more than the next-closest defensive tackle. Suh just turned 31 last month but remains a legitimate game-wrecking force inside. However, the Dolphins need a lot more than Suh before they start competing for Super Bowls. Designating Suh a post-June 1 cut would save Miami $17 million versus the cap.

Easy solution: yank the 5th-year option from RT J. James and you're under the cap by $1.7M.  The other option is to give R. Quinn a 1-year extension to push his cap hit down the road a bit.  Or just restructure Tannehill to save $11M

Detroit and Miami had him during his best years and they didn't win squat.

Dirty player, will be overpriced, not a McDermott guy.

Just say no.

All true.

The reality is that NO player has a noticeable impact on wins and losses except QBs.   They just don't.   So it doesn't make sense to spend a lot of money on any player except QB.   Much better to buy a lot of $2-3 million talent and plug them into your system.   Three $4 million guys will help your team more than one $12 million guy.

Why does it seem like D-Linemen have a habit of not performing up to their big money contracts?  I have no stats on this, but it just seems like that group are the worst offenders.

There's no incentive for them to do so.

$100m+ deals are OK for elite pass rushers and QBs, but it's just to much cap to allocate to a defensive tackle.

He has not made their defense elite.

Someone like Aaron Donald is a pass rusher at defensive tackle.  That guy gets in the backfield and disrupts everything.

Dareus used to be this.

Cox and Donald are incredible defensive tackles, you are correct. They are the most important player on those defenses.

Suh just isn't having that type of impact. Their defense is getting toast.

Dareus has just become a big guy who eats up interior OL and doesn't move.

My Buddy that works there says this is what they most likely will do to get in conpliance.

No 1 is redo RT deal to get in compliance

No 2 if they cannot trade James (which they are trying to do they will revoke his option)

No 3 they are still hoping to move Landry before UFA opens.
