Lane Johnson calls Patriots a “fear-based organization”; doesn’t think players have any fun

I was listening to it.    Thought it was interesting.

Chris Long was on the episode before this and said he’s having way more fun as an eagle as opposed to a Pat as well.

Are any of you surprised? Belichick runs a Gestapo environment. Then the organization labels it the "Patriot Way". Team run on fear and retribution.  It does produce rings or maybe just Brady produces rings? Either way I want it over....

Belichick strikes me as the type of guy that expects his players to act a certain way if you're getting paid what his players get paid. Obviously every coach expects that to a degree, but Belichick is nazi when it comes to professionalism. I follow a few Patriots players on social media, and compared to bills players, they post next to nothing and I guarantee their is restrictions on what and how much they can post

If by 'fear based' he means with high expectations, then he's probably right.

At the end of the day, us regular people all have to go to work, and be there on time etc.

Should 'professional' sportsmen be held to any lesser standard than we are?

I don't doubt that the cheatriots players have some fun along the way, this stuff is all relative, but imho, it's like any job people do, in that there's a time and place for it, and with them, it's largely out of sight.

I'm sure the Eagles and Doug Pederson went to work every day. Just as sure his players enjoyed themselves more. I would hate working for a company ran with a BB mindset. That mindset doesn't guarantee success either.  Most the time it leaves to contempt and resentment. Having one of the best QB's of all time and the constant success has allowed him to run a system like that for so long. If he had a couple losing seasons he would lose the team.

Chris Long should be having more fun.  He was literally in New England to do 1 thing.  I believe Bellichick only wanted him to be a 3rd down pass rusher and his snap count was dramatically reduced.  But...it worked.

that is why Long left.  He knew he had more 3 down football in him but that wasn’t going to happen in New England.

But Long knew exactly what he signed up for in New England.

you don’t hear Chris Hogan saying he would prefer the Rex Ryan Fun Days do you?

You don’t hear Chris Hogan saying anything remotely natural or human, which is kinda the point.

Country club playpen where you don’t host a playoff game for over two decades or tough love that wins multiple titles

You think Belichick is that successful without Brady? You don’t think most of those players go there cause they are gonna play with the best ever?

Whether people want to believe it or not you can have it both ways. Play on an organization that doesn’t try to turn you into robots but also be all about business. Belichick is a dick, without Brady that dude wouldn’t last.

It’s not about having fun, which playing this game and playing in front of 80k fans every Sunday should be. It’s about being able to be yourself but also take care of business at the same time.

If Tom Brady wasn’t on that team, and the Pats didn’t win 12-14 games a year, you think players would talk about how amazing it is to play for Belichick? I doubt it.  Winning is everything and Brady is the reason they win. But not this year.

17 seasons under Belichick/Brady:

5 Superbowl Titles

8 AFC Championship Rings

12 AFC Championship game appearances

15 years where they made the playoffs

It's nice to have fun though.

I would argue Peyton Manning and Aaron Rodgers are/were just as good as Brady and their teams didn't come anywhere near what the Patriots have done.

In the Tommy era, the Cheaters* are 13-6 without Tommy. That's with Matt Cassell, Jacoby Brisset, and Jimmy G.

No, they’re paid to play a child’s game. Is finding some joy in being that lucky so wrong?

And most of that is the Cassel year when they had an extremely easy schedule. The Dolphins went 1-15 the year before, then 11-5 that year against the incredibly nice AFC East schedule, and then 7-9 the year after. That year was a fluke.

And as you know, turns out the NFL thinks Garoppolo is pretty good too, even without being in Foxboro.

Re: Hogan

Of course not, for fear of being "eliminated" ( see N. Korea)

Kraft wants to win and I can’t say the same about Ralph since 1993 or the Pegulas

Phil Jackson’s worshipped triangle O didn’t win when Kwame or Melo was running it....

Maybe I'm taking this out of context, but are you suggesting that Ralph and the Peguilas didn't/don't want to win?

And that Phil Jackson installed the triangle with Knicks because he didn't believe it would succeed?
