Favorite Guitar Solo

Man there are so many.  Are we talking speed solo?  Technical solo?  Or just overall great solo?

Guitar solos are the thing that will draw me to a song and get me to play it over and over.  So I'll probably end up competing with gugny for most posts in this thread!

I guess we can start here.  I had a hard time deciding between this and still got the blues but since this was the first song of his I discovered I'll go with it.

Joanne Shaw Taylor.  Check her out.  Not only is she absolutely gorgeous but she shreds as well.

This one and the Godfather Theme aren't my favorites, but I think Slash and Buckethead are both pretty great. Also love Dave Navaro with Janes Addiction.

!@#$ING WOW.

He's coming to town soon.  Might have to take my son.

Do it.  When he first struck out I thought he was just a gimmick but he is fantastic on the guitar.  I was really surprised at his range.

How about some love for Steve Vai.  Solo starts 2+ minutes in but this guy is also incredible there are so many it is hard to pick 1 but you can't go wrong with this.

Take your son you will not regret it. Saw him  several times years ago in California when he toured with the Meat Puppets.

If he is doing a solo gig it will be great.

I do believe that this was the guitar he used. Ampeg lucite clear body.

I almost got one. The pickups were swappable - hum buckers/Fender single pole/etc.

Got a Travis Bean instead.

When I was a kid a bought this new at this at a store in downtown Buffalo. $600 new that was a LOT of $$$. Gigged with it and concluded while it looks good.

Sound wise it sucked. $90  Danelectros blew it away. That said I sold it to a friend for $100 and regret it because of its current collectors status. None the less it sucks IMO. Lucite does not resonate well.

I like a lot of guys mentioned here already.  I love that Gilmour is getting a lot of mentions.  I like classic rock for the most part so I thought about Hendrix, Gilmour Page, and a bunch of others.  For a lot of them I like some of the lesser known deep tracks type songs.  I was trying to pick one of those to post and was surfing around Youtube.  When this popped up I couldn't look past it:

For one that you might not have heard, look up a live version of "Speedway at Nazareth".

The worst lick off this album blows away anything a self-indulgent dinosaur like David Gilmour has to string out for half an hour...

To paraphrase Henry Rollins- "Down on the Street makes you want to fight or !@#$!"

J Mascis has style and can shred.  Great solo at the 2:17 mark

Another obscure solo from a metal master who, like Vai, IMO are probably 2 of the most technically greatest guitarists ever, but lack feel:

And another from the master George Lynch (going to see him in March at a free show at a local casino):
