And on the other end, if the bills go 4-12 he will be for sure gone, but chances are the bills will go 7-9 roughly. So here are some of my pros and cons if the bills end up finishing with a middle of the pack record Pros 1. A Lynn/ Tyrod development- I for one am not a Tyrod lover, but i do think he is an average NFL QB who can get better. Since A Lynn came in, the offence has been much better. He makes the o line better, QB better, and WRS better. If Rex is gone, A Lynn surely wouldn;t be back in Buffalo as the new head coach would want to bring his own guy in. Same as Tyrod, as he is owed 27 mil or something next year? There is no guarantee he would be back as well. Keeping Rex means keeping A Lynn and Tyrod, which looks somewhat promising 2. Continuity/improvement- I might get blasted for this one, but even though the bills defence is below average this year, they are better than last year . No A Williams, Ragland, Dareus and Lawson for the most part, and sack totals are way up. The biggest problem is obviously the secondary. Is it Rex's fault that Gilmore and Darby can't cover anyone this year? I would say partially because he does put them on a island a lot, but at the end of the day, those guys need to make way more plays. Rex has shown, if you can give him a good secondary, his defence goes to elite level. In saying that, there still looks to be a lot of confusion out there. That is a huge problem Cons 1. No Accountability- Pretty obvious that the bills don't have much accountability on the team. Penalties again are ridiculous again. Guys can make stupid plays then will continue to play the rest of the game. I don't think that will ever change for Rex 2. History shows him to be mediocre coach- Since 2011 I believe Rex hasn't had made the playoffs? He is a below .500 coach, and chances are if he's back next year, he will hover around that record again - My personal opinion, I don't think Rex is a great coach at all and has obvious flaws. In saying that, if the bills finish with a 7-9 or 8-8 record, I would bring him back as long as Tyrod and A Lynn keep showing signs of improvement. I truly believe Rex can fix the defence when he has playmakers and when healthy. We all know the most important thing is to have a franchise QB, so if there is even a chance Tyrod is like that under A Lynn, bring all 3 of them back next year and rip up the AFC Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

KDIGGZ Posted November 8, 2016 Share Posted November 8, 2016 I've never been a fire Rex kind of guy but the plan was to have a solid defense and good running offense and win low scoring games. If the defense is going to give up 30+ then we have no shot. Our defensive backs look like garbage and the main reason is they are in man coverage and continuosly getting beat. That's Rex's fault. Our secondary has transformed into the 2015 Saints and Rob has to have some of the blame for that as well. So basically if we don't have the defense Rex promised us then we will not win. As others have stated, his defense is dependent on lock down CB's and right now, he has none. He has pretty much worked wonders with the front seven this season. He deserves another year and he'll get one. And replace him with who? This is as good a team as the Bills have fielded in many years. They are restricted on offense by the limitations of their QB and quality of their WRs and they are figuring out how to manage that -- and they did pretty well last night against a very good defense. On defense their starting CBs have under-performed, their top two draft picks were hurt, and their best player decided to take the year off. Despite that they have held it together. They are not that far away; 7 more yards last night and this morning we're calling this the best win for the franchise since Fitz beat NE. The last thing they need is another big upheaval. Good post. However Rex really needs to change the culture of this team. It's getting to a point where teams are just doing what they want to our players and nothing is happening. You change one component and the others are impacted. This is why it is critical to have 1 very competent man in charge with 1 very clear plan. And THAT is when continuity becomes critically important, so that the vision/plan can be carried to fruition. Pegula can't fire Rex in a vacuum. He needs a plan/vision and a man to get us from here to there. If he is not ready to go all in on Operation Future Plan, keep Rex for the reasons you note. It's pretty clear at this point it doesn't matter who we have as coach, as QB, as GM, as owner, etc, we'll continue to be mediocre at best. So lets keep Rex around, at least he's entertaining. Tyrod's cap number next year is $15.9m and not the $27m suggested by the OP. It's complicated, but essentially if they keep him, his number is $15.9. If they release him/decline his option, then he gets the $27m. On the surface, keeping Taylor seems to be a forgone conclusion, unless something happens and he regresses the rest of the year. So essentially, keeping him means $15.9m next year and $16.8m the year after would make him around 24-25th in terms of starting QB's.In terms of Rex, I don't think this year is his last year no matter what happens the rest of the way. As I stated, they have been decimated by injuries. Dareus, Lawson, Ragland, McCoy, Glenn, and now Wood is a LOT of starters. I can't imagine they would be worse off with Dareus in the lineup. Lawson has made an impact already now that he's back. This defense is still at the top of the league in sacks. The only "con" to keeping both of them IMO is that that may mean another year before you start the rebuilding process if it doesn't get better. The jets sank a lot of resources in to him an failed. Where can we get an acceptable cb? Is it CB? I think his team has shown enough to warrant keeping the program together another season. I like continuity and think it's important. We will have more pieces back on D next season. Whaley should be able to reinforce the offense....and TT will be in this system for multiple seasons and should be even better. Don't blow it up.
