I'm glad you came around to the fact that Vegas can offer a more unique experience than any other city can offer. But on a side note, It's not Las Vegas' fault that your lady parts can't handle the Vegas awesomeness for more than a couple days.

 

Unless you deal cards, serve drinks/food or clean up after people...there's no solid reason to be in Vegas for more than 3 days.

 

 

Oakland makes last-ditch effort to keep Raiders from Vegas
In a letter to the NFL, Schaaf shared new, detailed renderings of what the $1.3 billion, 55,000-seat football-only stadium would look like, and assured the league that Oakland would expedite the environmental review and other bureaucratic moves that could bog down the project.
Raiders could save that $650M relocation fee . Still think sharing 49er stadium makes the most sense.

 

 

This was an obviously bogus face-saving "effort" that Oakland officials knew (and hoped) would be rejected by the other 31 owners.

Find it difficult when any team moves, feel bad for the fan base...could have been us.

 

Feel that there is a huge legacy of the Raiders in Oakland (except for the brief LA experiment) that will be lost when moving to Vegas. That being said, they have been playing in a terrible stadium for years, and the city didn't step up to the plate to extend a reasonable offer in the past. As a businessman, how can Davis not take what Vegas is offering? Plus the $$$ from luxury boxes/seats/PSL's will be huge. I'm sure he will pull off some of the same things Jones has in Dallas with monies that are not shared with the league.

 

It'll be interesting seeing how long the love affair in Vegas lasts.

People seem to ignore the fact that Clark County, where Vegas is, is one the fastest growing counties in the country and has a population over 2 million. You certainly will get Raider fans traveling, but there are plenty of locals to support the team.

 

 

I got to Vegas once a year on business. Usually stay 2 or 3 days & it is torture. I got to sit thru all these boring meetings when I all I want to do is hit the black jack & craps table & drink myself into a coma. We always end up taking some of our colleagues out to dinner after the meetings & to a person, all of the people I work with that live there have told they never ever ever venture down to the strip. All of them say they can't stand it. My boss & I just look at each other like "are these people crazy?" But I do find it interesting how some of the locals feel about the strip & their disgust for it.

Locals almost everywhere you go in US complain about and hate something local. It is just in our American nature to complain about something and speak out without holding much back. It is good mostly and at times bad also.

 

I prefer this over countries that locals stew quietly or are not allowed to voice their opinions.

Makes sense, but to never even go down there???? If I lived in Vegas I would be living on the strip at least on the weekends. I guess that is one of the reasons I don't live in Vegas, haha.

How long would it really last before you got tired of being on the strip every week and you went to do other things to occupy your weekends?

After listening to Vegas locals talk about the raiders coming to town, they've convinced me this move will fail. This commissioner is showing again why he needs to go. The Chargers will fail in LA and the jags will fail in London too

I think you are not talking to the right people. Everyone I know that is a sports fan is ecstatic about this, here in Vegas. Maybe non-NFL fans would be upset, but all they want is quiet afternoons in the suburbs, so it's not really affecting them anyways. If you are convinced this move will fail, then I'm convinced you are a nut job.

It's not really a disgust of the strip in and of itself. It's more just all the tourists and traffic that get really annoying. We still go down to the strip about once a year, but that is mainly to eat at a 5star restaurant, or play craps for my birthday.

 

If locals want to gamble, they usually go to a bar/casino on the outskirts of town near their houses. It seems like the video poker machines are looser the further out from the strip you get... plus the bartenders at the local bars are nicer and comp more drinks/food because they need you coming back.

 

But yeah, if you live in Vegas, you rarely ever go down to the strip. There's no need. Plus there are some really nice areas around town off the strip for shopping/eating/socializing.

Which makes complete sense. But I just wonder & correct me if I am wrong but they will be building the Stadium by the strip down by Mandalay Bay correct? I just wonder how many locals after the noveltiy wears off will be wiliing to head down there to support the Raiders.

That's a horse of a different color. Going to an NFL game at the end of the strip is completely different than going down to the strip to gamble or what have you. The Novelty of an NFL will be different mainly because it's 8 games a year over the span of like 5 months. Plus, you won't be surrounded by hordes of random tourists. you will be surrounded by NFL fans and game day atmosphere. I think in a few years, this could be one of, if not the most valuable NFL franchises.

 

The strip is a tourist trap. Locals know that, and steer clear. But that won't be an issue for the casual Vegas to travel down for a game. The biggest issue most fans here would have would be a stadium that wasn't centralized. The strip is actually a perfect place for it to be built.

 

Vote passed 31-1... Miami only team to vote 'no'. Those hosers.

The Bills will get $54M over time as their cut of the relocation fees.

 

This was on the John Murphy show just now fwiw.

 

That takes the sting out of Marrone and Rex big payouts to leave.

I am not positive but I THINK that this will be the 1st time that the Bills have ever cast a vote in favor of relocation. If memory serves me correctly, Ralph voted against it in every instance (even if it was a battle that he couldn't win).

The Bills voted for the Rams moving back to LA.
