Tampa Bay imploding as a franchise...

This is an interesting point. It could have merit. On the other hand, Freeman wants to play somewhere else. Damaging information about him - drug program, ADHD, missing meetings - hurt his chances of that severely as well. I don't believe Freeman or his associates have any more motivation than the Bucs organization (rational parts of it anyway) to leak information that is damaging to him.

I have a picture of Schiano as the sort of hyper-competitive person who just has to be "right" and who'll act impulsively, in the moment, go to any lengths and do whatever he believes will prove him "right". Look at his insistance on blitzing the victory formation, a pointless way to garner ill-will around the league if there ever was one. I don't think he leaked the drug program information.....but I can easily see him ranting to his assistants/flunkys about "if the media knew everything we know about this guy no one would criticize me for a second", and one of said flunkys doing the dirt, believing that he was doing his boss's will, and without consideration to the broad impact on the Bucs best interests (because flunkys don't think about organizational best interests). The Henry II effect "Will no one rid me of this turbulent priest?" "What? No, I didn't murder him! I didn't tell anyone to murder him!!!!"

I don't think Freeman will be cut. i think the Bucs are trying to justify themselves in suspending him, so they don't have to pay him. Thing is, after the drug stuff leaked and with a player grievance already filed for putting the MRSA-infected kicker on "non football injury" instead of "IR" which is more typical, if they do suspend Freeman they will ignite a firestorm of controversy and create a prolonged and intense media distraction during the inevitable appeals by Freeman, investigation, and legal action. The NFLPA is watching them and will not be inclined to cut them the benefit of the doubt in the "he said, he said" game.

It kind of makes me retrospectively appreciate Gailey: benched Edwards one week, quietly cut him the next, no fuss, no furor. Schiano should be singing like the Scarecrow in Wizard of OZ: "if I only had a brain"

Great post, as was the OP. I won't defend Josh Freeman, because he's been truly terrible this year and down the stretch last year, and does deserve to be benched based on that alone. (Although it is incredibly puzzling -- how could he have been so good a couple years ago, and even really good during the middle part of last year, then fall off a cliff like this? I don't get it.) But this really seems like a personal vendetta at this point, and all of the leaks coming out are complete bush league. Schiano is a disaster. Everyone who longs for a Parcells-style hardass coach should keep in mind that sometimes you get Tom Coughlin, but more often you get Schiano or Todd Haley -- a tyrant whose whole regime is a house of cards.

The real shame is that they've got some talent on that team, and could turn it around with some better coaching (and a new QB at this point -- maybe Freeman can be salvaged somewhere else, but not there). Good D, potentially legendary secondary if Mark Barron plays to his potential, 2 good wideouts, a really good young RB in Doug Martin, some talent on the O-line... if they had the Freeman of a couple years ago, they'd be a playoff team.

Yes. We are the worst franchise EVER!

Where is Josh Freeman's mental toughness? If I'm the starting QB I don't let anybody keep me out of team meetings. Make them do something really stupid.

He can file a grievance against them by them doing this. If they try to recoup his money or something he can cite this that and the other to win the arbitration.

I'm not sure if that was sarcasm directed at my comment or you were playing to the larger crowd of pessimists...

So, I'll respond by simply explaining that my comment was not intended to be derogatory toward Buffalo, it was more about taking the high ground and prior to casting aspersions on another franchise who seems to be in disarray, as fans we may want to let Buffalo rise a little above mediocrity before we become too critical of a team who appears to be in a somewhat similar position in their trek to becoming relevant once again....

If your sarcasm was directed at the pessimists who constantly have negative things to say about this organization, then all I can say is....carry on

new reports including quotes from former players about schiano. sounds disastrous.

"How bad is it there? It's worse than you can imagine," says one NFL player who spent 2012 with the Bucs. "It's like being in Cuba."

Several current Bucs players describe a similarly bleak environment in which the all-powerful, unyielding Schiano spews tone-deaf platitudes while demonstrating the personal charm of "Homeland" character Nicholas Brody.

Then on top of it, Tampa has this nasty staph infection running around the team. MRSA... WTF's up w/that? We play them in Decemeber... Holy good God!

there are bad years, and there are situations that will take YEARS for nfl players to forget. short of a COMPLETE organizational overhaul, it will be damn near impossible to sign FAs short of paying an huge premium.

YE OLE loves this response to that article from some fellow named Billbo Ballbaggins:

"Sing us a song, you're the Schiano man

Sing us a song tonight

Well we're all in the mood for some misery

And you've got us feeling like shite"

They were talking about possibly postponing games a couple of weeks ago because of the infection.

If this mess is true, I feel bad for Lindell, for him being such a professional for us for a decade and having to end up in this mess just to keep his career going. He seems professional enough to stay out of it, and I imagine the "specialists" are somewhat seperate from the rest of the team, but still a lousy situation.

As for Wannestedt, good, I'm glad he's in this mess haha... ok crappy thing to say.

I hope he doesn't get hurt either.....they still haven't beat that staff epidemic.

Something tells me Revis will hold out this offseason and demand a trade to Buffalo (or the Saints) where players are treated much better. :D
