"Haunting" Songs

So yesterday I was watching movies when I was supposed to be working, and the film "Philadelphia" came on. Toward the end of the film, this song by Neil Young began playing, and even though I'd seen this movie before, I don't recall this particular music. As it played, I found myself being REALLY affected by it. The only word I can use to describe it is "haunting"...in the sense that it affected me on an emotional level and sort of threw me into some sort of nostalgic tailspin.

I know that the majority of us love talking music, so I thought I'd see if you guys have any examples that would fall into this category. Feel free to define "haunting" in any way that makes sense to you...hopefully after you listen to this track you'll be able to get a feel for what I'm trying to get at.

Here's the brilliant Neil Young performing the song live...

The lyrics combined with some of the stuff Staley said before his death made this pop into my head immediately. He lived for quite a few years after they filmed that concert but he knew even at that point that drugs had taken control of him.

Neil Young just has a haunting voice. He could sing frosty the snowman and make it sound so.

Never heard that track...great choice!

I love how we've already got such a mix of artists for this topic...very interesting!

just about anything by Nick Drake

I know of him from the Garden State soundtrack...I'll have to give a listen to more of his stuff

Well-played would have been "Unchained Melody."

But somebody had to do it...may as well have been me.

I still remember when Ghostbusters came on the radio...back then I would have the local pop station on with a cassette tape loaded an ready to go, and as soon as I heard the opening few notes I would rush over to push "play+record"...good times.

The entire Dirt album is extremely haunting. Almost every song except for maybe rooster foreshadows his premature death from drugs.
