Not sure I agree with this...he was averaging 4 catches for 50 yards per game through 6 weeks of 2012, then he was lost for the season.

 

Buffalo could use that kind of production from a TE

I gotta say that i am glad Buddy and Co. are taking a look at him.

You folks have mentioned the risk so i wont. But there is a reasonable chance this guy would work out for us.

marrone will be using some traditional 2 TE sets i am thinking and Davis might be the guy. Keep Lee as a blocker mauler and let Caussin fight for it in camp.

 

Be interesting to see how this "meeting " turns out.

Stop trying to embellish his stats. He caught 59 balls 2 years ago and 24 before he was injured last year. It took him four years in the league to catch 59 balls after being hyped out of college.

Minimum wage at best and a gift card to Anchor Bar. If he's still got it, let him prove it. If the Bills bring him in for more than that, it's a clear indicator of status quo... always dumpster diving and never learning from passt lessons.

The Bills like to over pay. Look at the McKelvin deal that will come back to haunt the team. the dude is making 5 mil a year. They did the same with Kelsey and G. Wilson. Unfortunialty the team will be paying Wilson this year along with Fitzmoney. If they do a deal cheap I say do it, they also need another WR cheap. Lyold, DHB someone to take the pressure off Johnson. Most teams could double triple coverage Johnson last year because everyone else was so crappy.

They need their medical staff to clear him and to see him working out, running, catching passes before spending money on someone with that kind of injury.

Then stop trying to diminish his production without context. It never occurred to you that the years he had little production the veteran guy ahead of him was catching 75-85 balls a year? The one year Cooley got hurt, Davis came in and played very well, starting ten games catching about 50 balls and 6 TDs.

You make it out like he was only catching 17 balls a season prior to catching over 50. He caught 48 his second year in the league. Also let's not forget he was playing behind a pretty good te at the time in Chris Cooley who had 83 receptions in Fred Davis's rookie year. When Cooley was injured in 2009 Davis had 48 receptions starting the final 9 games of the season. When Cooley came back in 2010 Davis's production went down. If you want to nitpick the how's and why's go right ahead. Just don't overlook he was playing behind an elite te. Not every team with 2 good te's is NE who's gonna get each of them over 50 receptions a year. The only thing I'll agree with you here is him coming off his Achilles injury and the money, However assuming Davis is healthy and you want to forecast stats. We're looking at a guy who average wise will get you 40 receptions a year a little over 500 yards and a couple td's. Not really dumpster diving. Should we expect Tony gonzalez,antonio gates, gronkowski, witten type stats? Hardly. Would a combination of Davis/Chandler give the Bills there first legit duo of tight ends in over 20 years? Damn straight it would. Nothing about modernizing yourself to NFL offenses is "dumpster diving"

The original reports of the McKelvin deal were inflated. He making closer to 4m a year, and considering he's one of the best PR/KR in the game, and what CBs are paid in the NFL, he could be considered a decent deal if not a bargain.
