Redskins Name Change

  1. 1. Should the "Redskins" name be changed?

    • Yes. It's a derogatory word and the NFL should set a good example.
    • No. It's not derogatory to most people and changing it would set a bad example.
    • Maybe. I don't have a strong opinion but I wouldn't be fazed by a name change.
  2. 2. How many of the following statements capture your views?

    • It's insensitive to have a team name that denotes skin color.
    • I'm deeply offended; it's borderline bigotry.
    • It's a politically-correct manufactured controversy.
    • Another example of a select "offended" few forcing their PC views on everyone.
    • The term doesn't bother me but it is offensive to many others.
    • I value tradition in this debate.
    • Why is this even an issue?

That's because we're so enlightened we realize that forcing private businesses to toe whatever the PC mob rule of the moment is will lead to solving the big problems.

Hey, it worked for William Randolph Hearst, so why wouldn't it work now? Just yell loud enough and long enough and people will believe ANYTHING.

I hope Daniel Snyder owns them for another 30 years just to keep the name... this collusion by the sports media to push this issue has become a national joke. They love to hear themselves talk with this phony outrage...

This is a question that the people it represents needs to answer...

The people it represents are the Washington Redskins and they've made their view clear. But make sure you keep a tight seal on that PC exhaust pipe you're sucking.

Drawing attention to ethnic groups by way of skin color is deemed offensive for some people,

and its really not that hard to understand why...

The problem is, it defines a group against their will. It represents a group in a negative way. Why is this so hard to understand?

They can keep the name... Just scrub the Native connotations. Do what the Cincy Reds do? Do what the Golden State Warriors do. The imagery linked to the name is degrading. Again, using a picture of Mike Shanahan as their logo is truly the way to go! He's actually a redskin!

Or why doesn't Snyder change the name to the Washington Big Red One? Or how about, the Washington Green Berets? Or Navy Seals. Those are fierce warriors that should be honored with a team name. All the fans in Washington could run around with green berets pretending to be their fierce heros. There are so many cool names teams could come up w/if they tie their nickname into miltary units... Look what the original owner of the Black Hawks (Blackhawks) did... Worked for them.

I never understood why more teams didn't take their nicknames form US military units... So much possibility and imagery, it is limitless. How cool would the Carolina Marines be? Or, the San Diego Navy Seals... Kick azz and take no prisoners!

All I got out of that, is that Bob is okay with some teams having Indian based names/mascots, but not the Redskins.

Syracuse used to have an indoor football team, called the Syracuse Soldiers. One of their sponsors was the Army.
