Bills can carry over $9.8 million in unused cap space
Maddog69 replied to papazoid's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
they have to spend 89% of 121 The 89% rule does not apply to the carry over amount. I also read (not sure if it is true), last teams teams had the option of choosing whether or not to carry over the cap space (some chose not to). This year it was automatically carried over for all teams. -
Bills can interview up to 60 at the combine
Maddog69 replied to Beerball's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
on the other hand, it would give Marrone/Hackett the opportunity to introduce Nassib to the rest of the FO and scouts to make sure there is a consensus about him one way or the other. -
Ryan Nassib - QB - Syracuse

I feel that there is an excellent chance that Nassib is our pick at 8 and will probably be starting for the Bills in Sept. But a lot can happen between now and draft day to change that. -

since they already know Nassib, I wonder if they would leave him off the list -
Why the final Niners play was definitely NOT holding
Maddog69 replied to dave mcbride's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
i don't see why everybody has their panties in a bunch about this. If you look close enough, you could throw multiple penalty flags on just about every single play of every single game. The officials in this game pretty much decided from the start that they were going to keep their flags in their pockets. There were a ton of plays during the game that could have been called. It is kind of silly to focus on only the very last few. The refs did not "push" a particular outcome. They let the players battle it out on the field and they did not let a flag decide the game. It was a very entertaining game to watch. The end was exciting and the intrique of the intentional safety was great. -
Titus Young released 2x, arrested 4x

His talent level is really intriguing. But I just don't want this type of attitude in the locker room and anywhere near Stevie. Stevie is immature enough and does not need any more bad influences around him. -

Trade with Rams could be a win for both teams
Maddog69 replied to Got_Wood's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I read this type of statement alot on this board, but I just don't think NFL teams think and act this way, especially when picking in the top of the first round. Especially teams like the Bills have are not playoff teams and have needs at numerous positions. New England does it, but they do it selectively. They have a great team and need to fill one or two positions (mostly backups). So they can slide down, get extra picks and then draft 2-3 guys at a postion of need and hope one of them works. The Bills don't have that luxury. They need to find talent. Specifically and most importantly at QB. Theyre not going to look at the pool of prospects and say "Ah shoot, they're all about the same, lets just trade down and take whoever is left when it is our turn". -
My 2013 Draft Strategy for the Bills
Maddog69 replied to TheKickIsGood's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I'm really surprised the Mods here allow this type of thing. Astro does it a lot too. Seems like the TBD staff would not want their members being pulled away to other sites. -

and what happens if the guy the Bills want gets picked somewhere between pick 8 and 16 and the Bills are left sitting there with a bag full of crap? #1 priority this offseason is to find a QB. If their is a QB they like in the first round, they will (and should) take him at 8 rather than playing games trying to get an extra 2nd round pick and losing the guy they want. These types of trades are fun and interesting to discuss on a message board, but they just don't happen in real life. -
Donte Whitner 'drafted into the wrong system' and 'a bad s
Maddog69 replied to Meathead's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
This was my first thought. Whitner is not a difference maker. He makes the ocassional big hit on a receiver after a 25 yard gain, but he is not as good as the hype. And I personally just cannot stand his personality. I will never forget what a fool he made of himself during the whole tasering incident in Cleveland. He ran his mouth about how he was innocent and the facts would come out. Then he plead guilty. If he would just keep his mouth shut, I think fans would find him a lot more tolerable. Bottom line: If Whitner did not play on Sunday, would the 49ers be significantly worse? I don't believe so. -
Bills' Worst Draft Ever...Try and Top this one
Maddog69 replied to BringBackFergy's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Sincerely, Ryan Nassib -
this seems to be the consensus. There are a bunch of QBs with mid 1st round to mid second round grades but none that stand head and shoulders above the rest. That being said, it seems that this would almost force the Bills to reach for a guy they like at 8 because his grade is late 1st and he is likely to be gone by our pick in the second. The Bills have to come out of this draft with their top rated QB.

Cordarrelle Patterson - WR - Tennessee
Maddog69 replied to Buffalo Barbarian's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
can never have too many playmakers. But his value on this team would be diminished until they find a QB who can effectively get him the ball. -
Positional Needs for DraftTek - January
Maddog69 replied to Astrobot's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Don't forget that they can add players through free agency that will affect the positional needs heading into draft day. If they sign a good WR, that will reduce the priority to find one in the draft. Same goes for LB, and any other position. Unless there is a huge run on QBs before we pick at #8, I am fully expecting our selection to be a QB. -
Sean Payton Reinstated, and Gregg Williams as well
Maddog69 replied to BRAWNDO's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Technically, Greggo has not been reintstated. He was informed that he is free to find work and then apply for reinstatement at that point. -
What is your "perfect" draft scenario?
Maddog69 replied to rayray808's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Perfect scenario. Draft an immediate impact player with every pick. In fact, Trade down a few spots each round and get extra picks so we can get pro-bowl players with those picks too. That would be awesome. -
Mock drafts, experts, and TBD - My thoughts
Maddog69 replied to D521646's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
100% agree. That's why I am not going to get all worked up about the Nassib speculation. Marrone/Hackett are in the best position to know Nassib. If they take him at 8, I will be psyched because it will indicate that they have faith in him being a stud. They may be wrong, but if he is their guy I will be excited about the pick and will not have a negative thing to say about it until Nassib proves them wrong. If they don't pick him, that just proves that they were not sold. -
Mock drafts, experts, and TBD - My thoughts
Maddog69 replied to D521646's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I'd rather trust the judgement of Marrone and Hackett as to whether Nassib has an NFL arm. They've worked with him almost every day for 3+ years. You've watched 20 minutes of Youtube film. No offense. -
there's really nothing else you can do. You can get all worked up and look for things to get upset about (see the numerous threads with endless bitching about Marrone, Hackett, assistant coaches, potential QBs, etc). But in the end, we have no control. Marrone and his staff will be staking their careers on the players they are about to choose. I am hopeful they will do the right thing. There is an excellent chance that they will fail, but there is also a chance they will succeed. I am going to hope for the latter until they prove it is no longer a possibility. GO BILLS.

Just as I said in the "Was Marrone the right hire" thread, nobody has any idea whether or not this will be a success. We won't know if Hackett was capable of being OC and QB coach until he does it and we see the result. My preference would be for them to hire a QB coach separate from the OC, but I have no facts to support this preference. As hard as it may be, we will just have to wait and see how things turn out.

Franch Reich: Chargers QB Coach

Ryan Nassib - QB - Syracuse
Maddog69 replied to BuffaloBillsForever's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I totally understand being skeptical about Nassib being an elite talent. But your statements are a bit melodramatic. There is no guarantee than Rg3, Kaep, Wilson or Newton will ever win a Superbowl. No guarantees that they will have any better of a career than Nassib is capable of. They have all taken the first step towards it, Nassib has not had the opportunity yet. My thinking is that Marrone and Hackett have been with the kid for 3+ years. If they have enough confidence in him to take him at 8. I am going to be very excited to see how he develops. It would be a gutsy move. They would get crucified for it. But he turns out to be good, it is a great move. If he flops, Marrone will be fired in 3 years. Time will tell. Nobody thought Tom Brady was anything special. Nobody thought Russel Wilson would play this well this fast. The experts honestly don't know. I am excited to find out. I know I would be miserable if the Bills pass on Nassib only to have the Jets take him right after our pick and see him turn out great. Well said
