  1. Star was definitely not manhandled on Henry's long TD run. He did a good job sealing the edge and squeezing the defender. Henry ran away from Star on that play. IMO, that play could have most easily been stopped by Milano (wrong gap) and Hyde (bad angle). Replay starts at 1:00. EDIT: That being said, Star's 49.9 PFF rating for the season is below Harrison Phillips' 77 rating.
  2. Reposting this from training camp: Buffalo Bills Offensive Coordinator Brian Daboll wanted to remind his team before training camp about its journey. So, he asked each player and coach to stand up before telling them, “If you’re a coach who has been fired, sit down.” The entire coaching staff sat down. Daboll then said, “If you’re a player and you’ve ever been cut or traded, sit down.” A large group of players sat down. Finally, Daboll said: “If you weren’t picked in the first round, sit down.” Josh Allen, the starting quarterback, was the only player left standing. Daboll directed his next question toward Allen: “Josh, how many college scholarships were you offered when leaving high school?” Allen answered none. Daboll then said, “All right, let’s all remember where we came from.”
  3. When down by 14 in the 4th, it's better to go for two after your first TD. Then, whatever you need. The math works out solidly in your favor. Basically, if you intend to go for two after only one of the scores.... do it after the first score. That way if you don't get it, you have a chance to tie the game after the 2nd score. It's inexcusable for a coach like Harbaugh not to know this.
  4. Giving up 5YPC when you are 95% sure they are going to run is embarrassing. The defense did play well on over 50% of the snaps - and they had lots of moments. But just about any college QB and many good HS level QBs could have executed 50 handoffs and led the PATs to 14 points and victory against the Bills last night. That's what is embarrassing (for them - not me or you). It's a team game. Red Zone offense, a missed short FG, dropped passes, and horrid fumble on a handoff are why they didn't score more. Clock management in the 4th Q contributed too. Lots of areas to improve.
  5. Both Stevenson and McKenzie out? Wonder what's up. Who is returning kicks and punts today?
  6. Explains why both TENN backups had 100 yards last week. Explains why the third string at CLE had 100 yards the week prior. Seems like that's the place to start. But it may not be the only answer. JT averages almost 6YPC and Hines averages just below 5YPC.
  7. Yes and no. To my understanding, if they player does not re-sign, the contract is guaranteed for the season. But if they do re-sign with a new team, the new salary would typically offset and the original team would pay the balance. I think some players could double dip based on the language of their contract. Related, contracts for vets signed after week 1 (L. Bell, A. Peterson, etc.) do not automatically guarantee.
  8. All small gains, but... - Get live reps for the young guys on your roster that you want to evaluate - A couple game savings on high salaries which would carry forward into next year's cap - for players you are not planning on re-signing - Good will with veteran players that may want to play with a contender, rather than sit on the bench - Already planning on FA acquisitions, so comp picks are out of the equation for you - Possibly enhance draft position Bottom line, if you are in that situation and the player requests to be cut, why not?
  9. He hit the upright on a 57 yarder with swirling winds - where the wind did not blow the ball as expected. Then missed a 49 yarder pretty badly due to what looked like a funky hold. It would have been great to make those of course, but Tyler will be fine going forward IMO.
  10. Would Lions pick up that enormous contract for a disgruntled player that was a very good player 4 years ago? He will pass waivers no doubt and then maybe sign on a prove-it again contract. Meanwhile, he will continue to collect the remainder of his contract from the Browns.
  11. Totally forgot About Miami Haikus Thanks for Reminding
  12. Basham as well. Both coach's decisions.
  13. https://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com/2021/10/18/report-texans-cutting-andre-roberts/ He was excellent while he was here handing duties in all sorts of weather conditions, but apparently he is having a bad season thus far.
  14. I loved that exchange between AM and CC. AM: He hinished 2nd in MVP last year, he seems to be the leader this year... CC: Yeah, yeah, he's been pretty good but... AM: 2nd down and 6 off the fake, Josh Allen throws, touchdown! CC: OK, he's the MVP.
  15. We only had 55 plays on offense. Heavy rain affected the passing games of both teams - in the 2nd half, the Chiefs used the opportunity to crowd the LOS and create pressures. Whereas the Bills tended to play cover 2 the entire night. We averaged 21 yards per pass completion and 13 yards per attempt - which is unreal considering the weather. Running game was good, if you include Allen's attempts. Josh Allen had one of his better games all things considered.
  16. Avoid the neck and helmet area. CHECK. Avoid anything below the thighs. CHECK. Don't land on the QB and break your fall so the QB doesn't get hurt. CHECK. The rib area is still allowed and actually encouraged as an area where you should deliver such a blow. Sometimes clean hard hits result in injuries. In fact, sometimes you see non-contact injuries. These are all just part of the game.
  17. Daniel Jones had about 100 yards rushing. He and 17 were their offense last week.
  18. I read he was overheated, hence pulled before the others. Similar situation with Levy Wallace.
  19. Hypothetical math does add up. We lost by 7 No blocked punt? 7 point swing, depending on what the Steelers would have done with their drive. INT called back, Steelers got 3 points that drive, and the INT was returned into FG range at least. 6 or 10 point swing. DPI - 7 point swing. It would have been 4th down. We kicked a FG on first down while driving at the end of the game.
  20. Without a blocked punt returned for a touchdown, an interception overturned on a questionable call, and a DPI on 3rd and long we are singing the Bills praises non-stop today. Without those and one or two dumbo decisions, we win by two touchdowns. It's not the way we wanted the Bills to start, but they did show improvement on defense. The Bills need to find a way to gain chunks of yards against the light boxes and they'll win these sorts of games easily. Also, is it possible to go back to a 2-step punt? By the time he takes all those steps to punt the ball, he is nearly at the line of scrimmage.
  21. 9/7/2003 - Patriots stalwart Lawyer Milloy joins the Bills earlier in the week and the hapless Bills defeat the eventual Super Bowl champion Patriots 31-0 ruining their chance at a perfect season. Sam Adams scores a TD in his first game as a Bill.
  22. Good news and well played! His immunity is set to be a peak level during the season.
  23. Yes, doesn't look like there is any savings at all if released, as his salary is guaranteed. So no real possibility of that. After the 2M pay cut he took earlier this year, the savings would be 4M if traded. The new team typically would pay his 2021 salary, unless the Bills opt to pay some of it as part of the trade package. https://www.buffalorumblings.com/2021/3/18/22338078/mario-addison-contract-restructure-will-save-buffalo-bills-2-million-in-2021
