Status of AFC: Should Bills Go All In For 2019?
reddogblitz replied to jwhit34's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I do. At a similar juncture in the 2017 season Coach McDermott started telling the players we had a real shot for playoffs. Then they traded for KB to strengthen their chances. Whether you liked KB or not is immaterial. they made the move to improve playoff chances. This is year is similar but we're better and the rest of the AFC is weak expect for a couple of teams. We should go for it. We could make some serious noise in this year and even a playoff win. We're 4-1. Only one team has give up less points than us in AFC. A lot of teams are playing scrubs at QB. The table is set. We need to take advantage. Josh can maturate and win at the same time. A top notch WR could help increase that. I'm not saying sell the ranch and be like George Allen's over the hill gang, but if you could get AJ for Zay and a third go for it I say. The days of putting off winning are over. It's time to win. Do what it takes. Next year we could be a little better and think it's time only to have the rest of the conference be better. Strike while the iron is hot. -
Totally cool. It is a Bills jersey after all. And it shows you are a true fan who has been through it as opposed to a Johnny Come Lately in an Oliver jersey. When I go to a game at the Ralph i get a kick out of some of the old jerseys I see. And yes, a few years ago I saw a lady in a Maybin jersey. buy yeah, wear whatever jersey you want. as for me, I'm going with Flutie on Sunday.

How is Josh Allen being coached?
reddogblitz replied to Stallions's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I'm gonna disagree with this. What I saw was after another dumb pick, was Daboll being very animated and obviously yelling as his head was bobbling while yelling and then he made an exaggerated full hand gesture pointing at his own head. Obviuosly.yelling THINK.or something similar. -

The ole Rookie Treatment. Blitz him until he proves he can beat it. -

We started out the game with those same kind of plays on the first couple of drives, but Josh badly missed on short passes to guys wide open. Maybe he connects on a few of those and it's a different story? Did Daboll call the play for Josh to hold on to the ball and then hop off his back foot and lob it into the air resulting in an easy pick? Was Daboll yelling at Josh to use his head because he was calling bad plays? I WILL criticize Daboll however for not giving Gore a couple carries on that last drive. Very well could have broken one. -

I'm not sure. The whole reason why people like Troy Aikmen and I and many others say accuracy can't be taught is because of exactly what we saw Sunday. You can work on stuff and footwork until the cows come home but when under pressure in a real game you fall back to old habits. The one that concerns me the most was the play where he was not under a ton of pressure but instead of stepping into it like I'm sure he and Jordon Palmer worked really hard in the off season, he falls on old habits and hops off his back foot and lobs it up in the air resulting in an easy pick. It's like the old Mike Tyson saying "Everybody has a plan until you get hit in the mouth." Go BILLS !! -

Especially if he's your "franchise QB" (whatever that is) you don't want to risk injury for him and have to depend on Barkley like we did Sunday. A lot of QBs come into the league thinking they are going to revolutionize the QB position by running AND passing. Roger Staubach, Donovan McNabb, and Randall Cunningham immediately come to mind. After getting creamed a few times they re think that and become pocket passers and have greater success. I hope Josh follows this path and we see him run leas and pass better. But I agree. The designed runs to our franchise is our running around getting hit by big guys trying to put him out of the game. He's already been injured twice running the football. I can only think of one who said screw it I'm gonna run anyway nd that was Michael Vick. The Cheats** were also blitzing the pants off of him. That didn't help. -
In yards or something maybe. But we're 23rd in points, which is what really counts.

A friend of min recommended the movie Idiocracy to me a month or so ago. I did watch it and it is a great science fiction futuristic movie. And, scary because it looks like it is already starting to happen. I would recommend this to anyone who has not seen it. -

If he's 100%, he plays. Anything less than 80-85% he sits. We're trying win more than any thing else .he's not to the point where him at 70% is better than the back up ... Yet. -
Josh Allen - Accuracy on the Long Ball
reddogblitz replied to BuffaloBaumer's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I think so too. Sure he has blind squirrel hit a few, but he consistently over or under throws most of them. The dude can throw it a country mile, we're just not real sure where it's gonna come down. Up until Sunday and early in the 2nd half he has looked dead on on the short to mid throws. Concentrate the offense around that and pounding the rock. Throw a few long ones each game to keep the D honest. You might get PI on one. But don't count on this being a big part of our O. -

I don't care what "many" want. I didn't want it. We need RB depth. We had it but cut Shady to keep Yeldon who McDermott is afraid to let carry the football. So we only had one on Sunday even though our run blocking was working well. Shady was done here because we cut him. The man can obviously still ball. I'm getting tired of KC taking the guys we don't want and winning a lot with them. -

We need depth. Football is a game of attrition. It's not if injuries will happen, but when. Couple that with your second string RB you're evidently afraid to give the football to and we are where we're at. Ranks up there in player personnel decisions with Nate Peterman is a starting QB and we'll back him up with a rookie. -

Sounds like the so-called "experts" need to work on their experting. Russell was a very good passer from the first day of training camp on and still is. -

Are we trying to win, or save money? And I thought Ralph was cheap. If we had Shady we very well may have won Sunday. Once Gore got up there in carries and we couldn't run because Coach McDermott doesn't trust Yeldon, Shady probably would have broke one on the last drive ala snow game and Bucs game in 2017. But at least it didn't hurt our cap space. -

How do you know they wouldn't have returned the punt for a TD? -

Pretty much my take. Josh has the leadership and will to win at all costs. Just not sure he is a good enough passer to pull it off. He did appear somewhat accurate in the 1st 3 games. Hopefully that returns. I think it's both. -

Wasn't considered by whom? I'm not sure what you're basing this on. But I live in Seattle and watch the Seahawks a lot just cuz their local and on. I pegged Russell as a good passer right out of the chute. That's the difference between him and other running QBs. he is also a really good passer and was the start IMHO. I recall one game in particular where they were down on last drive Russell threw a perfect 30 yard pass to Sidney Rice to get the win. In his rookie year he threw for 3100+ yards at a 64.1 % for 7.9 YPA 26 TDs vs 10 picks. I'd take that all day everyday. Even from our 2nd year guy. He's almost got the picks. So at least there's that. -

And EJ's first 15 were statically better than Josh's. -

I certainly hope you are wrong and the brain trust at OBD is making decisions about the Bills is based on who helps us win the most as opposed to getting guys who played most of their career elsewhere into the Hall. We could have cut Yeldon. Looks to me like their afraid to give him the football. Reminds me of last year when we had a back up QB we were afraid to play. These types of player decisions are disturbing. -

This is my pet peeve in football and I see it a lot. You're on the opponents 33 yard line and it's 3rd and long. You drop your QB 10 yards deep to pat the ball and look for a WR downfield. Meanwhile, the D blitzes the pants off of you knocking you out of FG range. Especially with our D, run or run something safe to get the FG if you don't get the first. It's almost as bad and as predictable as taking a 3-0 pitch in baseball and having the pitcher groove one right over the heart of the plate cuz he knows you're not swinging at it. -
Will offense operate better with Barkley next week?
