  1. Allen's first year was not marked by a better surrounding roster than what Rosen had with the Cardinals. Both had abysmal o-lines, while I think the rb situation and receiver talent was generally better in Arizona. Nonetheless, there are differences where stats don't tell the whole story. Rosen floundered and pouted while Allen energized his teammates and won games. I'll keep in mind that you continue to believe Rosen was the best qb in his draft when I read your analysis of Allen's play.
  2. Agree this is a very substantive thread . . . all because the Giants wanted Daboll for DC. I'm not sure you're right about the complex offense assertion. It might be true and seems logically plausible. And the game changes, but what I'm thinking is the K-gun did not seem overly complex. Was it? Seemed to me you could run multiple plays out of the same formation, that's great, but mainly we ran a number of plays very well and when one added Kelly's creativity and the fast pace, it was tough to stop. Just seems to me that Allen would thrive in that environment and I'm not sure calculus and football really go together.
  3. Like, the dialogue is the most important feature of fine cinema.
  4. Maybe I'm wrong, and I don't want to get in the middle of a dispute between two of the best posters on this board, but I think what you're saying is the coaching staff has to be serious when they say they want fearless play and they have to convey that especially in the way they handle Allen. Allen can't play scared or feel as if he's being managed so that the priority on offense is don't make mistakes and let the defense win it for you. Naturally, being careless with the ball will hurt you big time, but Allen's swagger is part of what makes him a winner and you don't want to get in his head to the point where he is primarily afraid to make mistakes. I agree with what MajorBobby said in his thread on rb. Don't think you need a veteran rb. Great that Gore may have given Singletary a pattern of behavior to follow, but I'd like to see a roomful of young, dangerous backs.
  5. Fantasy offseason: Sign Conklin, Scherff, and Hooper in free agency. Spend draft capital and move up for Jeudy or maybe a slightly smaller trade up and get Ruggs, draft a back like Najee Harris, and another good wr in a draft with depth at the position. This is an offseason where the priority has to be offense.
  6. Dawkins Ford Morse Mongo Conklin If you really want to splurge big in free agency on the oline get Brandon Scherff along with Conklin.
  7. You know he wrote DC because he was in a rush to get in ahead of you. Yeah, I'm very ambivalent about the fella. Would have liked to bring in Shermer.
  8. You sound like someone with an axe to grind. If Rosen can make plays, he'll see the field. So far he's had poor teams around him and he hasn't been the NFL ready qb some folks expected.
  9. Happy Birthday! Don't know why you're always so serious.
  10. This thread is going to upset the self-proclaimed realists.
  11. So, between you and Giuseppe the only fella we're not worried about is Morse, the guy with the concussion issues? Nice. I agree the line needs to be upgraded, btw. I hope they make a run at Conklin and kick Ford inside to guard.
  12. This is all true, but if you don't mind, I'm going to focus on the possibility of progression to franchise qb. Still think it's better than a coin flip he gets there. He had further to grow (and therefore potential to grow as well) because he had fewer opportunities to develop the way top qb prospects in college do. Allen's character and desire to improve are not going to be the reason he fails. He obviously possesses physical abilities that are elite. I think you have mentioned in various posts the psychological factor and I believe Josh needs to learn to trust playmakers and that will come with the addition of more of them.
  13. Hapless and another fella posted a nice chart comparing qbr or some similar metric for all of Josh's passes from before the l.o.s. and over thirty plus, right, left, and center. Nearly every field was improved, some significantly. Just don't understand the folks who believe Allen had a bad year and did not show encouraging signs of becoming a franchise qb. Certainly, Beane and the rest of the team believe he is on that trajectory.
  14. The sleaze is strong with that team, from the owner down. The fact that the NFL treats them as the flagship franchise of the league is witness to ethical apathy and the preference for expediency, money, and overt success over integrity and untainted achievement as the standard for genuine champions.
  15. Agree it seems politically impossible, even if Daboll's interview was impressive.
  16. It's an unwinnable situation right now. Bott's patience looks like almost criminal lethargy. He can turn that around with an outstanding off-season, but I am skeptical he has it in him. Hope he does.
  17. I generally root for the NFC team. Some probably identify with the conference and go AFC (unless Pats*), but I tend to think of all the rest as the enemy. Anyway, if I am going to pick an AFC team, I'd rather it were the Chiefs than one of the newer franchises.
  18. Ahh, this one has more info. Think we should reconcile the Senate version with the House.
  19. I'm ambivalent as well. Sometimes the simple choice is also the wise one. Daboll seems to always want to be too clever by half. Nonetheless, continuity may help and perhaps a complex offense becomes simpler after folks have lived with it awhile.
  20. Who do you like at this point? Is there a fella so good you ought to trade up for him the way the Falcons went and got Julio Jones? Tee Higgins is my first choice right now.
  21. There's a thread in the Off the Wall forum on this. RIP.
  22. So, you're using a first round pick on G that can move to C and sticking with Ford at RT. Given Morse's concussion history, that is perhaps not foolish, though Feliciano was at least adequate as a backup at C. Lots of WR depth in the draft, not so much at Edge. Can't argue the importance of the oline, but this seems a bit of a luxury pick given all the other needs at the top of the draft. If they go that way, I suspect CB comes into play as well. I prefer the plan that brings in Conklin as Ford is not at all a sure thing to lock down that spot. Rather have a top RT inserted as bringing immediate impact. Also, you better bring in playmakers at WR, a hammer RB, possibly TE, either through the draft or free agency.
