2018 he was supposed to sit. He had a terrible o-line, very little in the way of playmakers, and was about as raw a prospect as there is. If you're not just looking at statistics, he willed that team to victories and definitely improved in games coming back from injury. 2019 showed marked improvement on short and medium range passes. Long ball is an issue. Still don't see him as a "game manager." Game managers don't lead multiple fourth quarter comebacks. If you don't think Allen has frequently demonstrated the clutch gene or converted numerous 3rd and long situations that never occur with mere game managers, I believe you are failing to account for the positives. The fella is inconsistent, reads the field too slow, doesn't take advantage of "move the chains" opportunities because he too often fixates on the big play. He has to make another leap. I think he probably will, but right now his floor is too inconsistent to be franchise qb. Imo, a lot of the "game manager" impression has to do with playcalling. When you have a good defense, there's a tendency to avoid mistakes, but Allen needs to be allowed to play with more daring if he's going to reach his potential. He still may not, but I think the safe strategy doesn't help him.

Kentucky Derby: Triple Crown Showdown
Dr. Who replied to Mark Vader's topic in Off the Wall Archives
Don't know a lot about horse racing, but Secretariat's win at Belmont is one of the enduring memories from my childhood. Everyone thought the horse had lost the race by going out too fast and then the lead kept increasing. Check out YouTube if you haven't seen it. -
Richard LeCounte, UGA safety. Bills will have to trade up from #32 to get him.

Josh Allen Running Style Versus Cam Newton
Dr. Who replied to TroutDog's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Someone had to pay the karmac balance for all the calls Brady got when someone looked at him with intent to tackle or got close enough to breathe on his little pinky. -
I don't blame the Packers for taking a shot with Love. I do find it puzzling that in a draft supposedly deep at wr, they didn't take a single one.

Rd 5, Pick 167: QB Jake Fromm, Georgia
Dr. Who replied to Hapless Bills Fan's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Everyone who had a poor showing at the Combine lacked an opportunity to redress that impression in some form of live performance. I think it may have benefitted the Bills. There's an article I read somewhere today arguing Epenesa, Moss, and Fromm all went a round later than likely had they had normal pro days and interviews. -

Good to see your, um, critical capacities are still working. Probably didn't show up in the scouting report. -
Happy belated birthday. One of my favorite posters. Game day threads I don't have to say a thing cause Joe tells it like it is.

Rd 5, Pick 167: QB Jake Fromm, Georgia

Well, I am hoping Allen Fromm is the new Kelly Reich. We'll see. Expectations for Fromm are set low for much of the fan base. They're going to be surprised when they discover he actually has some talent. -

I don't share your pessimism regarding Allen. I think he's going to continue to improve and be very good. I do agree Fromm is better than folks think. You could also mention the change in OC his junior year. Fella (Coley) was a big drop off from Jim Chaney. -

He did his own "self-made pro day" on April 5th in an attempt to improve his stock. (And it did "only affect Fromm" in the sense that his performance was uniformly judged to have been poor at the Combine. How could it not?) I am not one of those making claims for From because I think Allen is bad at qb. On the contrary, I think Allen is going to be a franchise qb. I also think Fromm is better than a clone of noodle arm Peterman. I'm an UGA fan and watch their games. He was really hurt by loss of top playmakers last year. I do believe he will be at worst a competent backup and has some potential to surprise. -
Buffalo is getting a good player at 54
Dr. Who replied to 78thealltimegreat's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Think you should add Pittman and Claypool to that list. Shenault, Claypool, and Akers have the best chance of being there. I love Swift, but no chance he is there without a trade up, imo and the cost would be prohibitive. We're not trading away the 3rd to move up. -

You've pretty much never liked his chances, though I'm told by lots of folks on this board there are few if any haters, so let's just say your sense of objectivity differs from my own. I think Allen has progressed as well as any reasonable person could expect given his background and surrounding talent. He's likely going to be a top 10 qb this year if there is an actual season. He's got areas to improve, but that's just normal for a young qb. Years ago, it was understood it took time. Today, if a qb pretty much isn't instant top qb, folks think he doesn't have it.

I've been thinking use a Day 2 pick on Rb. It's an important position for this team. If you can get a guy with this proven talent for a 5th, that frees up early picks for other positions. Edge, CB, big WR. Definitely worth the risk and it's always possible the culture and winning makes a positive change in the fella playing for his next paycheck.

At 54 the Bills will take? Your guess here!!
Dr. Who replied to DJB's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
So DIggs is the only top level player added to the offense? Don't think so. One of the Day 2 picks is rb or wr. Beane made a point of needing more playmakers that can potentially score on any play. -
Which running back do you hope the Bills draft and why?

Someone else will have to do the flaming. This is right on imo. -

Yep. No need to sell the Sabres. Just do this^^^^^! -
I'm not sure they know how to evaluate collegiate wr, but the actual wr room right now is good. Still like to see someone like Pittman or Claypool added.

I had the same thought. It would be a good PR move and funny. -
I just don't see how packaging even all the late round picks moves you far enough to get into the first and obviously, you need at keep at least 4 or 5 picks even if you believe the roster has relatively few openings. I doubt a 2021 2nd or 3rd rounder provides sufficient value to push yourself into the first. The conventional wisdom that I always hear is you downgrade a round, so a 2021 2nd = 2020 3rd, etc. I can see Beane using later round 2020 picks to try and move up within a round. I would be in favor of moving up towards the top of the 2nd, though that may cost you your 3rd and that is an expensive buy. I see the need for youth at edge, btw, though myself I would still go offense. I like big WR like Claypool or a really dynamic RB to pair with Singletary. My guess, however, is that they probably go DE, CB, or S either at 54 or with a trade up into the top half of round 2. (I really think it is going to kill Beane to have to sit out the first round and he will be itching to get in the game earlier in the second.)

If there are children involved, I hope there was a prenuptial agreement they'll be raised Bills' fans.
