  1. Completely agree with the example of Reid. Who are you going to replace him with? This isn't college where you can buy out some other coaches existing contract. So your choice is another retread who recently got fired like was done with Rex Ryan, McCarthy, etc. Or you take a flyer on a new and upcoming OC or DC and it were a DC again this board would likely blow up. But more of these up and comers don't exceed as a HC than succeed. Look at he ones in Carolina and AZ. Even McVay the boy wonder is a bit questionable as has been up and down a bit. Maybe every ten years or so a situation comes around where a guy like Sean Payton becomes available, but Denver had to give up draft picks to get him and his record other than one SB win his record isn't much better than McDermott's. Will be interesting to see how Payton does in Denver as very limited draft picks the next two seasons . By the time they can get young guys up to speed, Wilson even if Payton can straighten him out, may be too old.
  2. Yeah I kind of expected something along those lines too based on title.
  3. Of all the things you mention, storage unit is probably one of the easiest to get away with as hard to know when a person is using it for legit purposes as opposed to living there. Some are even air conditioned.
  4. Did they know? There was a guy who I worked with about 20 years ago who lived over a year in his office with no one knowing. Occasionally if I were there late in the evening or on a Saturday, he'd be there, but just assumed like myself was catching up on some work. Eventually there was a downsizing and he got laid off. Only then when his office was being cleaned out did they figure out he was actually living there.
  5. I think the FA numbers are somewhat misleading in that they are signing many of these guys particularly linemen to one year deals. So that inflates the number of players brought in while defensive players are signed and resigned to more long term bigger deals, so less total number of them. As also pointed out, you can't ignore the value of the picks round 1 vs round 7.
  6. So how would that work under salary cap? The team would be committing $xx mil towards the 2023 cap. But if he didn't play at all, he wouldn't get paid. Would the Ravens then get that money credited back towards the 2024 cap? Would make it easy to tag him again as wouldn't cost that much more for 2nd year tag. Would it even be considered a 2nd year cap, could be a bog league NFLPA argument over that one. Believe too the rules changed in last CBA that he needs to report by week one to have the year count as accrued, used to be around week 10
  7. But what was the alliterative? Not give Dorsey the job and hire someone from outside? Agree was risk and many of the things you mention did surface to some extend. Was it Dorsey's fault, or was problem really elsewhere, hard to say for certain. But you don't know either many brand new OC's did very well, eventually becoming a HC elsewhere, where ironically they'd often fail. Plus going elsewhere, highly likely Dorsey would have bolted, likely to Giants, and ran the risk of ticking off your franchise QB in the process. Also whomever is brought in, run the risk of them not jelling with Allen, or wanting to change things up a lot, maybe for the better or maybe for the worse. It was a gamble they took, certainly didn't work out as well as hoped for, but not a total failure either when you look at the numbers were still one of the top offense teams overall in the league. Admittedly the eyeball test didn't seem to totally agree with the numbers IMO
  8. But realistically at the end of the 2021 season the offense, the offense was working at a very high level. The biggest issues in 2020 and 2021 was stopping the run and sacking the QB. The year in 2022 it didn't work, but yet almost the same team as 2021 was back the only exceptions were Stafford for Williams, McKenzie for Beasley and Dorsey for Daboll, plus new line coach. What was the problem, who knows. The area that seemed to regress the most was the Oline which again 4 of the 5 players were back and had a new coach. Not disagreeing that they need to spend resources on the offense, but can understand why more attention was given to defense.
  9. How much of that 3 years was he actually healthy for? Likely if he was able to stay on the field they would have seen what he's capable of. Whether that would have meant they kept him or not who knows. And yes we saw what he did, but still in a very small window of time. Lets see what next year brings. A player that many think should be in the HOF. Steve Tasker "got away" from was it the Oilers?? It happens.
  10. It's easier for the Giants to grab players like Berida as they didn't have a very talented roster, certainly back in Sept, no one expected them to make the playoffs. The Bills are a pretty deep team so harder to find a spot for guys like this. It's like the early year the Bills made the playoffs and Duke Williams had like 9 catches. He probably hasn't had that many since career wise Not very easy to give fringe players chances as during pre season no other teams are playing "real game settings" either. So the only way would be to cut guys in September to take a chance on someone like Williams. Very likely more often they'd be wrong by doing that than right.
  11. The big questions is will he and Duke Williams enter the HOF in the same class?
  12. I heard it was 7 years, but she should have made it 8 years!
  13. Well I meant NFL just that was before AFL was also around. They were the champions of entire league as was no SB back then. Basically they won the last game of the season that they played 4 times
  14. I thought of Browns too, but they did win some NFL championships pre-SB era as did Bills won a couple. Once SB era started, browns never won again and Paul Brown was also gone so kind of torn on whether they are good choice or not. So in light of that will also go with Vikings
  15. Not agreeing or disagreeing with the title of the thread being an issue or not, but to Youngs comments, wouldn't Steve assume a defensive player would feel the same about an offensive HC? Coming form a QB I take his comments with a grain of salt.
  16. And the BN also typically has the most content on the Bills so it seemed natural to put their articles at the top. Likely too more 2BD forum viewers either live in the Buffalo area or totally outside the western NY area so it probably is the most read publication that carries Bills news. As a non Western NY resident anymore, I'm glad the BN articles are at the top.
  17. And also lost 4 times as many too. But that's what happens when you coached for 24 years and have the same winning percentage. The numbers of wins and losses will be bigger. I'll grant you Reid has certainly done much more in 24 years, I also recall many people talking about how Reid can never win the big one. Today now has a chance at #2. My main point when looking at the names on that list other than Belichick and I'll throw in Reid too, the rest haven't won any better over their careers than McD has other than they have won one SB.
  18. Is he really a much better of a passer than Goff? Lions did OK at QB. Certainly Jackson's running abilities add alot, but can he stay healthy because if it? Will they or do fans there realize, he's great when healthy, but can't stay that way and has struggled at times. The biggest problem with trading him IMO is the overall lack of great franchise type QB's available every year to draft. A better chance they pick one that doesn't work out than does. Then in 4 years will be looking for another one. But don't think the answer is handing Jackson $250 mil all guaranteed either.
  19. What's this a list of coaches with worst records than McDermott?? I assume that is what this list is as if you looked it up you'd find that every name on the list has a worse record than McD with the exception of Belichick and technically Reid. But Reid has a winning percentage of .641, McD is .639 which is an overall difference of one win more liketime. With the exception of Shanahan, they've all won one SB and some have better playoff records, but if you take the one year away that they won the SB as they went at least 3-0, their overall playoff isn't any better either. This is a pretty impressive list of names, but none of which have done any better than McD except Belichick overall except they won one SB each. I do think winning the SB is a bit of luck involved, the biggest is avoid large number of injuries, timing i.e. peaking at the right time, matchups, Bills likely would have had a better shot at beating KC than Bengals, and just a bit of luck overall. As to the original point of this thread, I think one of the issues that magnifies everything is the internet. Imagine what this board would have been like 30 years ago when the Bills lost 4 in a row if everyone had easy access to the internet and there were as many sites to go to for data and information as there is today. People would have been rioting in the streets. Don't forget too that the word fans is short for fanatics which is what we all are. Anyone who posts on message boards 12 months of the year, 7 of which there aren't even any games going on is a fanatic. So as fanatics we're not the most rational thinkers as it's emotional. We likely are more emotional than many of the players are as to them it's a job, many of which weren't even o nthe team last year and many won't be here again next season. Most here rip the media that covers the team, they don't know anything, they're wrong, if they rip a Bills player they are scorned, etc. But one thing they are for the most part is unbiased. When you read many of their articles, they are much more rational takes on things overall than many posters here.
  20. What kind of shocked me was that Darrell Revis has been retired for 5 years. Seems like he was just playing yesterday. When I saw Joe Klecko walk out, I thought wow he doesn't look like he's all there. Then I remembered what he looked like in his playing days and realized it he hasn't changed a bit. 9 people inducted! For a long time I've felt it's too easy to make the football HOF and too hard to make the baseball HOF.
  21. He helped them get over 800 yards and 46 catches. So you think taking that away would have made the team better? Is he helping them as much as Diggs or as much as was expected, no, but he is helping. Now you're down two WR's with limited money to spend Good luck getting better. I've got no problem replacing him as the #2, but cutting him is not making the team better.
  22. Except the odds of that happening are very low. There are many more failures than successes with either brand new coaches, or retreads.
  23. So then why trade a guy on a cheap contract who won't give you much in return? Who are you going to replace him with that will still give you 48 catches and 836 yards for similar money? Or even a little higher money. Replacing him still isn't going to solve the Bills problem as right now they need a 3rd WR. Now you're getting rid of their #2. Maybe he should be a #3, but either way, you've now opened up another roster spot and saved very little if any money in doing so.
  24. Right now I see many people posting on various threads on the message board. How can that be? I can't believe people have time to post right now and not riveted to the TV watching the Pro Bowl!!
  25. But I've heard of him!
