  1. If the long term plan is still to move Woods to center, then while this this may help short term would hurt long term. So I'd not be in favor of it. On the other hand if you want to sign a tackle, go for it as there isn't necessarily one ready to step in right now.
  2. The other problem is future picks are worth less than current years. So to trade for another teams say second round pick, you'd likely need to give up maybe your first from the following year, plus maybe a 4th and 5th from this year. You'd quickly run out of picks. If you look at the draft pick value charts, they say deduct one pounds worth of points for a future year. So next years 1st rounder is worth what this years 2nd rounder is worth.
  3. New Words to Oh Canada No, Canada You lost to Uncle Sam We'll take the gold You laid down like a lamb With frying pans you tended goal We scored on you at will From far and wide, Oh Canada We're scoring on you still. God keep your nets Wide open and emp-ty O Canada We scored five goals on thee O Canada U.S. with gold you'll see!
  4. Nothing really shocking there. Right from the beginning it seemed that his role was everything excluding talent type issues. Maybe if there was a split amounfg the others he's be a deciding vote. He never claimed to be a football wizz, and I don't even think he wanted to make these choices. No reason to rip him for it as he was never put in the position to make these choices.
  5. You know I really don't get this Mr Smithers stuff. What has RB done to earn that title. The guy is sharp, without even knowing you I'm certain much sharper than you, I and mostly every poster here combined. Is he qualified ot evaluate NFL talent? No, but did he, or did he leave that to TM, DJ, and JG. I think he did great as a GM in everything he was asked ot do, which I'm assuming was little with evaluating talent.
  6. Who is this guy? Does he regually cover the Bills? Home and away? Had some great advise, do buy tickets, watch them on TV, well first off half the games will be blacked out. But only for a couple years as once they move to another city, then all the games could be covered on TV. Even Sully with all his being negative, I don't recall him encouraging people to not follow the team. The Bills have made some good solid moves, they just didn't work out, like Hiring TD. At the time, everyone thought it was great move by RW.
  7. Good point, I forgot that Marty was fired by KC. Oh did you mean Chan?? I can understand you complaining maybe about not signing Cowler, if Alan Iverson was a Bill's fan he's be saying "we're talking about Marty"! Give me a break here!
  8. Well you're right there. Marv made the decisions to allow DJ to make some of the choices. I' don't believe a word of this RW making picks stuff. OK very often three scouts may say lets draft Joe, three others say lets draft Fred, no one can decide and then RW says I like Fred, so they draft Fred. To me that highly means RW is making the picks but the pres sand some here like to say RW is making the picks. I highly doubt the majority of the scouts are coming and and saying pick Bob, and RW says the hell with all of you, I'm drafting Bill. Everyone claims RW is cheap, if that were the case, then RW could save a tone of money by getting rid of all the scouts if he's making the picks anyway.
  9. I'd disagree with you on that point. I think backups make good coaches as they spend much more time on the sideline talking to the coaches. Starters often have everything come to them too easily to understand what someone who is struggling is going through. That being said, I think AVP problem was thrown in as OC a week before season started, compounding that with all of his training as a coach was under a weak staff to start with. If he had stayed as QB coach a couple more years with a good OC, he likely would have been fine. Wil lbe interesting to see how he does next year.
  10. There was a lot more to it than that. Polian has as much stated that he was somewhat at fault with their falling out too. He was young and wasn't going to let anyone tell him what to do. Polien didn't get along with many besides the treasurer. Yeah I'll sort of give you this one, though with the comment that it's never been proved. However at the time I felt it wasn't a bad move. The first year Flutie was here, he played lights out, the second year, we won in spite of Flutie, though you'd never know that if you listened to his press conferences as everything that went wrong was always someone elses fault. I think he was one of the biggest "me" guys out there. RW may have said "let's start Johnson", but I'm certain the rest of the staff also agreed. There was talk at the time how some felt Flutie was the weak link of the offesne as he didn't have a strong enough arm to make it through the playoffs. Yes he hired Marv but then unfortunately he let Marv make the decisions, that was the problem. We may have been better off if RW was making the personal decisions. I agree that RW has made some questionable decisions and he often has made things thinking too much about the $$. But HE has made the choices, not someone else. So if we do draft Tebow which I hopee not as all he is is a gimmick guy, it will be becasue RW wants to not based on what Kelly or Thurman want. If you want to make the overall point that RW is calling the shots, OK, wouldn't call you crazy for that, but to suggest it's Kelly leave you deservedly open to all the name calling that comes your way.
  11. You have to wonder, are people really this stupid, or do they just do so people like me, right now, repond to these idiotic threads. If so, it's working!
  12. So how were TO's stats this year? My point is with the weak QB and O-line play we had this aseason anyone looks bad. I doubt Marshall would have looked any better.
  13. True though in the past I've seen voting totally change from year to year. So no gurantees next year follows same pattern from what I've seen.
  14. I would also have to believe any coach in these lower leagues have an automatic out of their contracts for an NFL job at any level. So doubt that would be the hold up. Based on the timing, I have to believe it's someone on Superbowl staff.
  15. Wasn't Browns reasons dfor voting against it different than RW's?? Seems I recall he had a different agenda??
  16. I knew he was franchised one year, I thought SD did it again the second year, apparently not. So they got nothing for him then, other than an old Brees Jersey to sell.
  17. Good God, you sure can read alot out something that wasn't said. Let me try again and make it clearer to you. All I was trying to say was Green Bay drafted Brohn because at the time, they had no idea how good or bad Rodgers was going to be. If they had known, do you think they would have used a #2 pick on a QB to be a backup, I doubt it. OK, I'll play along, so after Rivers first year in the league which was spent as a back up to Brees, they decided to go with Brees and trade Rivers. What would he have brought in a trade?? Essentially he was selected 4th overall. Was he worth that much a year later when he hadn't played at all? I highly doubt it. You seem to be confused between Rivers one year in the league and no playing time to show for it, and where he is today. I know it's hard to seperate the two, but try it for a minute. Couple that with the fact that the other 31 teams knew SD was not in a position of strength to trade Rivers. I think SD may have been lucky to get a low 1st rounder for him at that point. As far as 31 other teams not selecting Brohm off waivers, one of the reasons he stated he signed with the Bills was he felt he'd have a better chance to play. Having said that, it's quite possible he may have informed many of the other teams he wasn't interested in going there as he didn't feel he'd have a good shot to play. For example, would he have wanted to go to Indy and back-up Peyton Manning, probably not. Do I know Brohm is goign to be good, no. But the fact the Green Bay let him go doesn't mean a whole lot either.
  18. Yes, that was what I meant, SD traded with the Giants, Manning and picks for Rivers. Supposedly they were trying to make the trade prior to the draft but ran out of time so ended up drafting Manning then tading as you stated. As far as Brees going to NO, I thought SD franchised him then traded him?? Could be mistaken??
  19. If he can find stars for the Bills like he did for the Chargers, who cares. Yeah, on one hand he was kind of an embarassment, but also give him credit for stating what he really felt instead of dancing around things.
  20. But at the time I don't think they were certain about Rodgers, that's why they drafted Brohm. Once they saw Rodgers was doing well Brohm had little chance of starting as Rodgers with 3 years experience was too far ahead for a rookie to beat him out. So Brohm drops to #2. That's where it gets tricky. Instead he falls to #3. What happened, was it a case of sulking? Maybe he was made some promises in rookie camp of being given a fair shot to start and his eyes that shot never came, so then he lost interest?? Who knows?? We do know that Green Bay did offer Brohm the same contract ass the Bills did, but he elected to sign with the Bills as he felt more chance to play. That does say that Green Bay still felt he had value, enough to pay him a fair amount to be a #3 guy? So I wouldn't say he doesn't have a shot. It's kind of what happened in San Diago with Rivers. I doubt they ever would have drafted him if they had known Brees was going to become the QB he did. They still could have made the trade with the Giants, but instead selected position players with that pick, or traded down again for more picks. They did trade Brees, but didn't get anywhere the value that the #4 overall pick would have been worth. In my opinion if they had traded down with the Giants, kept Breese and signed postion players or traded further down, they would have had the biggest dynesty in the league when you consider how good they are right now, but now add at least one more top level position player. And for anyonew who questions the value of the overall #4 pick i nthe draft......... remember Mike Williams!!!
  21. Someone on another thread made reference to there being bad blood between RW and the Rich family? Any info on what that may be all about as I've never heard or read anyhting about it?
  22. That's not the flip side at all. Kelly wasa winner, but he also had talent, so if you have both halves the odds go up in your favor. If you only have one of the two which for the most part is where Tebow is, you have a better chance of succeeding with talent. Scouts better be right about players most of the time, so to say it's futile is crazy. Am I a scout, is any one here on this board, highly unlikely so granted our opinions aren't very good in the grand scheme of things. I certainly can't scout anyone but am good enough with numbers and statistics to know most players in similar situations fail. Heart only carries you so far, you need the skills.
  23. What makes you think he can be developed?? Development is for guys who have all the skills, but not the understanding of the game, usually played at smaller schools. See Phil Simm's. Tebow has the mental part down, his problem likely is the physical part, and rarely can that be developed. There's been plenty of other "winners" in college who are flops in the NFL. For the past four years if Tebow played for Syracuse, would he still be "winner" today? I doubt it. You have to be very wary of players, particually QB's whop play for schools that have potential NFL stars at every position. It becomes real easy to look great and become labeled as a winner when surrounded by all this talent. See Vince Young. I don't have anything agaisnt the guy, but based on how others college players in similar situations struggle in the NFL I would be very surprised if he works out. Just becasue he's a "winner" won't help in the NFL as so is many of the others players and those whom aren't winners get ahead on skills. If you want to develop him to be a wildcat QB, I'm fine with that though I wouldn't use more than about a 4th rounder on him. Plus Nix's comments about drafting players who can exceed in this climate makes me doubt we'd be going to a wildcat.
  24. The Vikes play calling that whole last drive was terrible. You get the ball with 2:37 and can only get off one running play before the two minute warning. When they had 1st & 10 at the Saints 31, two runs into the line for gain of nothing. Why not try a pass on 1st down when least expecting it. It looked like the Bills game plan out there.
  25. The funny thing thing there is while the Bills were successful in the late 80's early 90's the Colts, or as many back then called the Dolts were doing terrible every year and much of it was blamed on their owner Jim Irsay........... SENIOR
