  1. If they had hired Nix last year as ther GM, then they would have brought an outside guy in for the GM job. But instead named him a scout, then a year later he's GM. Maybe all along thta was the plan but for whatever reason didn't want to initially name him as GM Everything written sounds like the person they interviewed was Guy. More than likey that was to fill the Ronney rule. How do you know it wan't a serious interview?? If RW thought highly of Guy and really considered giving him the GM position, I doubt he'd instead hire a guy who in his first interview kind of ripped the free agent signings the Bills have made in recent seasons.
  2. I'm in North Carolina and could also use some help. Thanks!
  3. It's been written in a few sources that Guy was the other finalist which makes sense as likely he was interviewed to fill the Rooney rule. Speculation on my part, yes, HOWEVER if RW was really considering him and felt he would have been a good choice, you wouldn't then give the job to a person who pretty much ripped the free agent signings we've made in recent years. I will be very surpirsed if Guy is around much longer, although I thought someplace in the past I read that the contracts of most front office positions excluding GM expire May 1st, the idea beign that they complete the scouting/signing phase before lettignthem go. I seem to recall when TD took over, many of the scouting positions stayed intact until after the draft. I almost think that may have been when Nix left the Bills.
  4. So if Brandon wasn't around and Nix reported to RW himself, you could say the same thing that Nix is reporting to a guy with no football knowledge RW himself.
  5. Fitz is starting because the coaches feel he gives them the best chance to win, even if it's very slight. The coaches and players are professionals. If Indy had won last week and came int othe game 15-0, I'm sure the Bills players and coaches would have went into the game feeling they have a gameplan that could have beat them. Fans can be realistic, players coaches are just positive always. (well at least 90% of them are)
  6. Also the college football season is running longer, then you're into the holiday weekends. When they use to do the Saturday games, the reqular season was wrapped up by Christmas or at the lastest, maybe Dec 27th or so. More other competition these days on TV from other sports too, though not likely football would lose to much for ratings. And I agree I also miss them.
  7. She likely would be the hottest looking owner too. (excluding JJ of cource)
  8. That wouldn't do any good as Fox or any other coaches whom are fired at year end 2010 would quickly be replaced by Feb 1 2011. At that point, all plans are towards having a 2011 season. As it gets closer, it may get less likely. In the end my guess is there would be a season, but no team is going to not have a coach for the off-season just in case. Paying a coach $10 mil is pocket change compared to what they'd save in salaries. Seems I even recall hearing that the TV contract is such that they owners would be paid whether there are games or not??
  9. Will be interesting to see how this plays out. When do all the assistant coaches contracts run out, also in 2010? Or do some run out this year?? Typcially assistants contracts are for two years, so would think they'd run out in 2010, but likely some may be over after this season. That's always been the argument as to why you can't allow a ocach to go to their last year in a contract as it becomes inpossible to hire any assistants. So maybe Carolina tells Fox he can stay but needs to fire these three guys. Fox refuses as he knows his hands are tied and would have trouble hiring anyone to replace them so by the end of next week, he is fired or resigns. I've seen this before.
  10. Just becasue the Bills have not anounced a starter doesn't mean that Brohn hasn't beeen told he's starting. Does it make a big difference to how Atlanta prepares, not likely, but even if it makes then spend an extra ten minutes due to uncertainty as to who will start, then it IS a smart move by the Bills. Whether it helps or not, who knows.
  11. Any Regime with half a brain would do the same thing. The more uncertainty you can give the other team, the better. Regardless of how good or bad the other options might be, if you can keep the other team guessing even a little bit, the better off you are. The thing that amazes me is the level of smarts the people who post here has sunk too. Good God!, think a little bit beore posting!!
  12. The estate tax will be suspended on Jan 1st 2010, however likely at some point probably by the end of the 1st quarter it will be reinstated with an exemption of somewhere between 3 to 5 mil which is of little use to RW. He could potentially sell the team prior to that going into effect. However there is talk of making it retroactive to Jan 1st. I was just talking with a lawyer yesterday about that possability, if it does become retroactive, there will be a long court battle, so the govt may not attempt to do that just to avoid the hassle. So there is a potential for this happening, we'll see.
  13. Isn't Bon Jovi best buds with Belichick? Seems I recall reading that in the past, BB goes ot his concerts and Jovi was at the Superbowl
  14. Recovered may be a loose term. My take on it is, after (what was it week 10) the Bills either had to activate Hardy or IR him for the rest of the season. They knew he really wasn't ready to play, but they wanted him to practice the rest of the season, so their only option was to activate him, but knew he likely wouldn't play any this year. Often there is at least one WR every game that doesn't dress, so considering the Bills had some depth there, and little if any injuries, they could afford ot do that. Normally you wouldn't want to place a second round draft pick in that position of not dressing every week, but I think the benefit of gettign practice time is worth it. Let's see where he is by this time next year, then decide if he's a bust or not. Right now no one knows and he's not healthy enough to play. That's why they wanted him to practice the remainder of the year, to give him time to improve his route running.
  15. No but I think Kelly is on the inside, and Thomas is getting his info from Kelly. It may be he does know more, but knows if he says too much then Kelly will keep him out of the loop, so just throwing out a few teasers.
  16. First off, based on your argument as to why RB is not qualified to hire/interview a GM, then how i RW anymore qualified? Secondly everyday all over the world people are interviewed and hired by people who have never done the actual job themselves. But they still hire a person for the job. RB will likely become the liason between RW and whomever this new football guy is. Will this new person need RB's approval to sign some player or coach. Not likely, on the other hand he will need RB's approval for setting a total player budget and things at that level. And something like the overall budget likely owuld have already been discussed and agreed upon between RB and RW. Will he need to work with and get along with RB, again yes. But the new person will run the football side of things.
  17. For the most part the opposite is true. They won't state their true thoughts, but rarely wil lthey ever rip a player as you never know five years from now, that guy could be on your team so you never want to say anything bad. So for me hearing BP stating something bad about a potential draft pick was very damming. On the other hand Grise stating he'll be good, means less to me than BP stating bad as ex-players, coaches etc alwasy say everyone is great.
  18. I would say Miami, but that might be due more to the intensity between the teams. Houston certainly was pretty good those years too. But we're really talking about 2nd best of the 2nd best conference.
  19. Well if were to die Jan 2 or up to the changes that get voted on take affect, then definitely no estate tax. However from what I've read, this also is a way for people to pass on property/assets to others and to avoid the estate taxes. That's why the govt wants to close this "loophole" up ASAP. The way I read it RW could pass the team on to his heirs and avoid the estate tax, though I'm sure it's still a complex method involved.
  20. Here's a thought I had, don't think I've seen this angle discussed prior. There's been alot of talk how RW's heirs won't be able to keep team even if they wanted due to estate taxes. For those of you not familier with estate taxes, next year 2010 is not only an upcapped year in the NFL, but also is from an estate tax point. Next year is the year to die as there currently is 100% exemption from tax. It also is the year to transfer property out of ones name to someone else to avoid potential estate taxes. The fed is planning to change this, two weeks ago the house voted to permanently set the exemption at $3.5 mil. This isn't anything new as all along there was a plan to make some new likely higher amount the permanent number. The Senate however has stated that it will not vote on this measure until after Jan 1st. Two things are almost certain, by sometime early next year there will be an exemption set likely in the 3 to 5 mil range which compared to the value of the Bill's is a drop in the bucket. The other certainly is there will be a period of time in early 2010 before the new limit is enacted. That would give RW a window to sell the team off, and transfer the proceeds to his wife's and or kids name to avoid the estate tax. That's why the Fed is going to change this as otherwise many people will do similar things to avoid eventual estate taxes. Maybe RW cuts a deal where as long as he's alive he's named CEO, but the team is sold. Certainly no evidence of anything other than to say there's been alot of chatter out of Jim Kelly lately, makes me wonder if something could be going on behind the scenes. Also could explain why RW all of a sudden is willing to spend $10 mil on a coach as it's not his $10 mil. The one thing I do totally believe is anything RW has stated in the past means nothing as he's not tipping his hand in any way till after the fact. Something else to consider??
  21. When you consider how slim the pickings are for landing a top QB, trying Brohm out for next season isn't such a bad idea. If you draft someone it could easily take over a year if you're lucky for him to develop. Rookies sometimes can look good quickly when surrounded by talent., however anyone going to the Bills' next season would take awhile anyway, so play Brohm. If you get lucky and there's a QB available whom you really felt should have been taken earlier, grab him, otherwise fill your other needs.
  22. When I read the title of this post, I expected it to be about how Polian stated Tebow was great as most of the time coaches, GM's, etc will never say anything bad about anyone. The fact that he's stating he doesn't think he'll be very good, to me is rather shocking and makes me think he's even worse than people think. Coaches and Gm's tend to be professional suck ups in most cases. As far as his "winning attitude" any one on Florida would have a winning attitiude. I'm much more impressed with players who come from weaker schools and are able to lift the team due to their play as opposed to players on teams with far superior talent who just win becasue they are so much better than the competition.
  23. And exactly why are the Bill's under some obligation to report what's going on?? Just casue you've not heard anything means nothing. Two weeks ago everyone was up in arms that the Bills hadn't talked to Shannahan yet. Two days later it was reported that RB met with him two days prior. Who released the info afterwards who knows, but the meeting took place with no one knowing, so basically you nor anyone else around here has no idea what is really going on. The smartest thing the Bills can do is report nothing of their intentions or what they are doing!
  24. The problem with your argument is what you're suggesting is likely the best options long term. But the front offices first obligation is to the 53 current players, and to try and win now. So if TO gives them a better chance of winning you keep him. For some of these players, there may never be a next year, so they want to win now. Any team that didn't try to win would in my opinion have trouble attracting free agents dow nthe road.
  25. Along the same line, there's very few coaches older than 50 who've ever won. Again Weeb was one and I beleive there was one other. Most of these proven guys who have already won, go to another team, now older they seem to lose the drive a bit.
